Bill Balog goes back-to-back in the Land of Lincoln with Red Hill Raceway triumph

SUMNER, Ill. (July 23, 2023) - For the second time in as many tries, the “North Pole Nightmare” Bill Balog is a Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 main event winner, scoring his second consecutive victory with another dominating display at Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Illinois. For Balog, who is now a five-time All Star winner over the course of his career, the victory notched another $8,000 payday, matching his Rumble on the River prize from one night prior. The former ten-time IRA Outlaw Sprint Series champion led all 30 circuits in his Red Hill triumph, surviving a single, late-race caution and a last lap threat from Kerry Madsen and Zeb Wise.

Vermeer Motorsports’ Kerry Madsen held on to finish second, followed by Rudeen Racing’s Zeb Wise, Lemoore, California’s Cole Macedo, and Clauson Marshall Racing’s Anthony Macri.

“My grandma could have driven this car tonight…it was just amazing,” Balog said. “Toward the end, I wasn’t getting through the lapped cars as well as I was at the beginning of the race. That caution with two to go actually helped us more than it hurt us. Overall, just an incredible weekend for this team. These races are so hard to win, so to get two in a row is really special. We’ll definitely celebrate this one.”

Balog’s campaign at the front of the field seemed relatively effortless, stretching his advantage to just over two seconds by the midpoint of the program. As traffic intensided, Madsen and Wise would ultimately make up ground, quickly closing the gap on Balog by the time the trio reached the two to go signal. At that time, the main event’s lone caution flag would wave, setting up a two-lap dash to the finish. Balog held strong, leaving behind the race for second.

Bill Balog leads all 35 for $8,000 NOS Energy Drink Rumble on the River payday at Spoon River Speedway

CANTON, Ill. (July 22, 2023) - The “North Pole Nightmare” Bill Balog was the man to beat Saturday night at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Illinois, not only conquering the Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 for an $8,000 payday, but leading all 35 laps in the process, holding back Friday night winner and current All Star driver points leader, Zeb Wise. Balog, who started from the pole position as the result of a dash victory, withstood five cautions and a red flag in his victory march, driving on to secure the fourth All Star triumph of his career.

Rudeen Racing’s Zeb Wise finished second in the NOS Energy Drink presents The Rumble on the River, followed by Greg Wilson, who started ninth, Kraig Kinser, and a hard charging Chris Windom, who commenced his forward progress from 22nd in the running order.

As hinted, besides the half dozen caution breaks, Balog was relatively - for the most part - unchallenged in his 35-lap campaign, still feeling some late race heat from Wise. Wise actually got the best of Balog, driving around the ten-time IRA champion following a lap 28 restart, but caution flags waved again giving the top spot back to Balog. Balog went on to switch his restart approach and he never looked back.

“With a guy like Zeb [Wise] behind me, I knew I had to switch things up. But we were just so good. Even in traffic, I felt really good. I was able to switch things up and it all worked out,” Balog, ace of the Anderson’s Pure Maple Syrup/Gibbsville Cheese No. 17B sprint car, said. “It feels so good to get an All Star win outside of Wisconsin. These races are so hard to win and there’s so much pressure. I really don't know what to say.”

ON DECK:
The All Stars’ July campaign will continue with an $8,000-to-win visit to Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Illinois, on Sunday, July 23.

After a two-day break, Midwest action will continue with an $8,000-to-win stop in the Show-Me State, visiting Benton Speedway in Benton, Missouri, on Wednesday, July 26. The final Missouri visit of the season will award an $8,000 payday.

Concluding the Series’ Midwest takeover, the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, will host “America’s Series” on Saturday, July 29, welcoming the Tony Stewart-owned organization for the first and only time in 2023. Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1

Zeb Wise kicks-off Midwest swing with $7,000 victory at 34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, Iowa (July 21, 2023) - It was a pure case of redemption Friday night at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, as Rudeen Racing’s Zeb Wise, who finished 19th in Lernerville Speedway’s annual Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup on Tuesday evening after utilizing a Series provisional, rebounded big and cashed in for a $7,000 payday, jumping on Austin McCarl’s late race misfortune to secure his fourth Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory of the season. Wise, now an eight-time main event winner with “America's Series,” earned the lead for the second and final time on lap 27, driving by McCarl when the Altoona, Iowa, native slipped off the surface while leading.

Three-time All Star champion and Clute, Texas, native, Aaron Reutzel, would also slip by McCarl in the closing circuits to secure second, followed by McCarl, Australian Jamie Veal, and Roth Motorsports’ Buddy Kofoid.

As noted, Wise led on two different occasions in 34 Raceway’s 30-lap contest, driving by McCarl the first time on lap 19 before “The Big Unit” returned the favor with a slider the following circuit. McCarl’s position at the top of the running order did not occur until lap six, sneaking by early race leader, Jamie Veal, around the bottom of the speedway.

“We needed that one,” Zeb Wise expressed. “Hats off to everyone here at 34 Raceway. We had that long delay, but the track held up great. And even with it getting abrasive at the end, I thought it raced really well. Our car was just really good tonight and hats off to everyone on this team. We didn’t have too great of a night Tuesday at Lernerville, so to get this Midwest swing going with a win is really special.”

ON DECK:
The All Stars’ July campaign will continue with Spoon River Speedway’s inaugural NOS Energy Drink presents The Rumble on the River on Saturday, July 22, followed by a visit to Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, Illinois, on Sunday, July 23. Each of the stops in the Land of Lincoln, Spoon River and Red Hill, will award $8,000 top prizes.

About the All Star Circuit of Champions:
All Star Enterprises, LLC, wholly owned by Tony Stewart, d/b/a the All Star Circuit of Champions, is a winged sprint car series. The All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series is one of the oldest traveling 410 sprint car organizations and is a staple of grassroots, open-wheel racing. Formed in 1970 by Bud Miller, the series has largely been considered the first 'outlaw' Sprint Car organization of the modern era. Motorsports entrepreneur Tony Stewart agreed to terms with Guy Webb to become the sole owner of the original winged sprint car tour in January of 2015.
