McKinney Sweeps Summit Racing Equipment AMS Season Opener at FALS Fairbury, IL – May 27, 2017 - The Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series would finally begin the 2017 on Saturday evening at Fairbury’s American Legion Speedway in Fairbury, IL with the Memorial Day Weekend Roundup and Mike McKinney of Plainfield, IL would score the $2,000 payday and visit victory lane in his Elite Chassis #96m. Trent Young would lead the opening two circuits of the 30 lap, $2,000 to win A-Main contest before Mike McKinney would use his outside front row starting position to gain the top spot on lap three. The first of three cautions would fly for Travis Kohler on lap four and the restart would see Jeff Leka challenge McKinney for the race lead, with Leka grabbing the top spot on lap seven after a restart for a debris-caution on lap 6. Leka would lead the contest until the halfway signal on lap fifteen when McKinney would get his mount rolling once again and would drive past Leka for the top spot and lead the remainder of the way to claim his first series victory. Jeff Curl would take runner-up honors, while Steven Brooks completed the podium finishers with a third place effort. Leka and Danny Schwartz would complete the top five. The remainder of the top ten at the completion of the Memorial Day Weekend Roundup A-Main event would be Josh Harris, Tyler Nicely, Jeffrey Ledford, Gabe Menser, and Mike Harrison. The next event for the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will be Sunday May 28 at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, IL paying $3,000 to win and $225 to start.
