Hagar Taking Two-Race Winning Streak into Jackson Motor Speedway Doubleheader

Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (April 11, 2017) - Derek Hagar will attempt to keep his sprint car winning streak alive this weekend at a track where he's familiar with Victory Lane.

Hagar is heading to Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, Miss., on Friday and Saturday for a co-sanctioned doubleheader with the ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints.

"We always seem to perform really well there," he said. "We've had different surfaces whether it gets slick and dusty or wet and heavy. I'm anxious to see what it will be like this week since it got flooded last weekend."

Hagar said he competed at Jackson Motor Speedway during only his second career sprint car race in 2006.

"I think we started 11th," he said. "I got up to fourth and was getting excited on the top and stuffed it into the fence going into turn one."

Since then he's been one of the favorites, especially during recent years. Hagar has won at the track each of the past three seasons and he has a podium there during four straight years.

"You have to be against the fence if you want to be fast later in the night," he said. "It can get dusty and slick. You have to keep your momentum up and dodge traffic."

Hagar enters this weekend having won his two most recent sprint car races - March 4 at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., and April 1 at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

SEASON STATS -

7 races, 2 wins, 3 top fives, 3 top 10s, 3 top 15s, 4 top 20s

Thomas Jr. Double Dips on Top Five’s

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (Apr. 11, 2017) – Kevin Thomas Jr. took on double duty driving privileges during the Kokomo Grand Prix and solidified four Top 5 finishes over the course of the weekend.

The Cullman, Alabama native recently scored a new non-wing sprint car ride with car owner Dan Pace. The Pace Performance Coating sponsored No.44 DRC tackled Kokomo Speedway Saturday & Sunday resulting in a pair of top five finishes, with a 5th and 4th respectively.

“I’m really grateful Dan (Pace) is letting me drive this car,” Thomas said. “It’s similar to the car I drove last year and I had a lot of success in it. I’m looking forward to carrying that success to the No.44. I’m just thankful for the opportunity to be back in a good car, with an awesome group of guys, and being able to get them respectable results so quickly.”

Thomas was also in action with the USAC National Midgets as they battled for the Kokomo Grand Prix Title. Once again in another new ride, Thomas would pilot the Austin Brown No.7B entry, with a Speedway Toyota under the hood.

No stranger to the Kokomo Speedway surface, Thomas would fight his way through the field from the 13th starting position, and come across the line in 4th place. The teams would do it all over again on Sunday evening, where Thomas would capture his fourth top five finish in two days with 5th place honors.

“I’ve worked with Austin, Flea, and Corey before and it’s always a good time,” said Thomas. “They have great equipment, and I was excited when Austin asked me to drive his car. It’s been a few months since I’ve driven a midget so I guess you could say we knocked the rust off. Hopefully he’ll let me get behind the wheel of this Boss Chassis again.”

Thomas and the No.44 team are putting together a tentative schedule for the remainder of the season to be released at a later date. They will be in action at the red clay, high bank oval known as Bloomington Speedway, in Bloomington, Indiana on April 14th.

Kevin Thomas Jr. would like to thank the following sponsors; Hinchman Racing Uniforms, Bell Helmets, Gridsport, Indy Metal Finishing, High Side Design, and MPI.

Bayston Bags Three Top Ten’s

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (Apr. 11, 2017) –  Spencer Bayston claimed three top ten finishes, in two different divisions, over the course of three nights of racing. A 2nd place finish in the Swindell Speedlab No. 39, alongside 2nd and 6th place finishes in the Keith Kunz Motorsports No.97 entry, made for a successful weekend for the driver from Lebanon, Indiana.

Friday night, Bayston would play bridesmaid to Brad Loyet during MOWA (Mid-West Open Wheel Association) racing competition. Bayston climbed aboard the Kevin Swindell owned 410-winged sprint car and promptly set Quick Time in qualifications under a new series format. The 10.247 second lap would also leave Bayston the track record holder at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Illinois.

Bayston would start in the pole position for the MOWA main event, but the top side proved to be the faster line as Loyet jumped to the lead. After several cautions, Bayston would challenge Loyet for the top spot at the start-finish line, but Loyet would prevail; Bayston coming home second.

“I’m excited to get back in the wing car and get some more seat time,” Bayston said. “We ran well last weekend at I30 Speedway in Little Rock (Arkansas) coming from 17th and finishing 4th. It was nice to start a little further up front and contend for a win. I can’t thank the Swindells enough for this opportunity. Looks like it’s shaping up to be a really great season.”

Switching gears Saturday and Sunday night, Bayston would strap in his Keith Kunz Toyota for some USAC National Midget competition during the Kokomo Grand Prix (Kokomo, Indiana). Bayston took ProSource Fast Time honors laying down the fastest qualifying lap of the 35 entries.

He would go on to win his heat race after starting in the 6th position, guaranteeing himself a spot in the main event. Bayston started on the third row during the first night of the Kokomo Grand Prix, battling his way to the front, and eventually grabbing a 2nd place podium.

The final night of the Kokomo Grand Prix would prove less than thrilling for Bayston after spinning out passing for the 4th position, on lap 10 of the feature. He would however, tag the tail of the field, and race his way back up to a 6th place finish scoring his third and final top ten of the weekend.

“I would like the congratulate Brady Bacon for winning both nights,” said Bayston. “I was able to battle with him for the lead on Saturday and just came up a little short. I made a driver error on Sunday passing for 4th and had to go to the tail. I came back up through the field and finished 6th, just ran out of laps. My crew chief, Al, always gives me fast race cars. Driver just has to do a little better next time.”

Bayston heads to Attica, Ohio in the Swindell Speedlab No.39 April 14th & 15th, where he will try to double dip during back-to-back races at Attica Raceway Park.

Spencer Bayston would like to thank the following sponsors: Keith Kunz Motorsports, Toyota Racing, Bullet by Spike Chassis, Curb Records, Simpson Race Products, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems.

Swindell Speedlab would like to thank the following sponsors: John Christner Trucking, Mike Curb and Curb Records, MPI Steering Wheels, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, Arai Helmets, Racing Optics, Maxim Chassis, DMI, Hoosier Racing Tires, Sweet Manufacturing, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Kenny’s Components, High Performance Lubricants.

Bergman Maneuvers to Sixth-Place Result at Texas Sprint Car Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2017) - Seth Bergman charged to his third top 10 of the season last Saturday during the finale of the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

Bergman opened the two-day Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event on Friday by advancing from fifth to fourth place in a heat race before he ended second in a qualifier. That earned enough combined points to lock him into the 12 th starting position in the main event.

"The track was pretty abrasive and ate up tires throughout the night," he said. "It was difficult to get into a good rhythm in the main event. We battled between 10th and 15th throughout the race and struggled to move forward."

Bergman ended with a 15th-place finish.

The event concluded on Saturday, when Bergman maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race before he finished where he started - fifth - in a qualifier. That locked him into the 14th starting position for the feature.

"We methodically worked our way up there," he said. "We were able to take advantage of a couple of cautions to pick cars off. We closed in on Tony Stewart and Johnny Herrera for fourth and fifth place at the end, but needed another lap or two to try to get a top five."

Bergman capped the night with a sixth-place finish. He ranks fourth in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings entering the next event, which is this Saturday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo.

Bergman was victorious during his most recent race at the track and he also posted results of second and sixth there last season. He placed fifth in 2015.

Herrera Earns Fifth-Place Finish During Texas Sprint Car Nationals Finale

Inside Line Promotions - FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2017) - Johnny Herrera recorded his sixth top-five finish of the season last Saturday during the finale of the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals.

Herrera was strong throughout Round 2 of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track, where he won a heat race before advancing from fourth to third place in a qualifier on Saturday. That lined him up on the outside of the third row for the main event.

"I drew a lot better and the track was a lot better on Saturday," he said. "The track was a little racier and there was more passing. The car was ok, but I still was off a little."

Herrera spent the race battling inside the top five before he ended with a fifth-place result.

"It wasn't what we wanted, but we're happy with it after the way we struggled the first night," he said. "The car was just a step behind the whole weekend."

Herrera kicked off the event on Friday by placing fifth in a heat race and eighth in a qualifier. That relegated him to a B Main, in which a runner-up result garnered a transfer into the main event. Herrera then advanced from 19th to 13th in the feature.

"We were a mediocre race car," he said. "We played catch up and never really got caught up. If I had started in the front we'd have probably run in that area, but we weren't good enough to drive by guys."

Herrera, who is ranked second in the ASCS National Tour championship standings, will compete this Saturday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the series. He finished third and 10th, respectively, at the track last season.

"We've had some success there," he said. "I don't think we've won there, but we've been a pretty good race car. Hopefully we can get our first ASCS National Tour win of the season this weekend."

Baughman Caps Texas Sprint Car Nationals With Runner-Up Result

Inside Line Promotions - FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2017) - Josh Baughman produced a pair of solid performances last weekend during the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

Baughman opened the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday by finishing where he started in both a heat race - second - and a qualifier - third. That ranked him ninth in overall points and lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

"We struggled on Friday night to get drive out of the car," he said. "We felt like we were bland. We were good enough to run where we started, but not to pass cars. To come out of that place with a top 10 was good because we felt like we were way worse than that."

Baughman ended the night with a ninth-place result.

The event wrapped up on Saturday, when Baughman finished third in a heat race before he won a qualifier. That locked him into the seventh starting position for the main event.

"The guys gave me a great car," he said. "They stayed up all night Friday and pulled a new car down. They went through things to change cars and make sure we were ready to go for Saturday night. The difference was having a car that could move around the track. We were able to run the top, but we were fast around the bottom in turns one and two where everyone else wasn't. I made most of my passes there."

Baughman advanced to score a second-place finish, which was his best result of the season.

He is slated to compete this Saturday at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

"I feel like going into the next few races we should be able to win," he said. "We ran well in Sedalia last season and I think we'll be able to contend for the win this weekend."

Baughman finished second in his most recent race at Missouri State Fair Speedway last August. He also earned results of ninth and eighth, respectively, at the track last season.

Tankersley Tackling Jackson Motor Speedway This Weekend With ASCS Gulf South and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints

Inside Line Promotions - HIGHLANDS, Texas (April 11, 2017) - Channin Tankersley is heading to Mississippi this weekend for an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader.

Tankersley, who is the defending regional champion, and Kyle Turner Motorsports will compete on Friday and Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram, where the two-day event is co-sanctioned with the ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints.

"I've been there about a half dozen times," he said. "I almost won the opening night last year. I passed the leader on the last lap and they had a caution. I've run second a couple of times."

Tankersley placed second during the opener last season to tie his career-best result at the track, which he first established in 2011. He was running third with eight laps remaining during last year's finale when he banged against the wall in turn one and cut a tire down. After getting the tire replaced he restarted at the back and ended 12th.

Tankersley also finished fourth in 2015.

"The track is super slick and that's why I like it," he said. "We seem to get around there pretty well. We just want to have a solid weekend. The goal is a top five both nights. I'd like to win as usual, but we want to have an issue-free weekend."

White Ready for Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Event in Sedalia Saturday

Inside Line Promotions - FORT WORTH, Texas (April 11, 2017) - Harli White is heading to Missouri State Fair Speedway this Saturday for the next round of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour action.

White made her debut at the half-mile oval in Sedalia, Mo., last June, but the night was short-lived as her team fought mechanical woes.

"I raced there once last year, but we had problems so I wasn't able to run the heat race," she said. "It's a nice place. I watched the main event and it looked exciting. I'm excited to get there this weekend and get some laps."

White was hampered by a fuel problem throughout the Tony Stewart presents the Texas Sprint Car Nationals last weekend at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

"The struggle on practice night Thursday and throughout the first night of racing on Friday was the engine wasn't running to its full potential," she said. "It was cutting and missing. We changed engines on Saturday and were having the same problems. We went to the dyno on Monday. Come to find out we were off on our fueling."

White placed sixth in a heat race and seventh in a qualifier on Friday. She then ended fourth in a B Main, which was only one position out of earning a transfer to the main event.

The event concluded on Saturday when White finished eighth in a heat race and seventh in a B Main.

"We were pretty down on horsepower," she said. "Both nights it would lay down in the center of the corner and on the exit. Whenever I'd get a run on someone and pull next to them my motor would lay down so I was struggling to complete passes.

"I have my confidence back going into this weekend after finding out what we did at the dyno. We'll have the problem fixed and now we'll go out and try to run consistent laps to put ourselves near the front."

QUICK RESULTS -
