BROWNSBURG, Ind. (September 18, 2023) - It’s always a battle when the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series comes to the West Coast, especially to California, and for ten-time Series champion and Fargo, North Dakota, native, Donny Schatz, it was a battle, indeed.

Schatz, ace of the Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, Mobil 1, Hoosier Racing Tires, VP Racing Fuels, GEARWRENCH, No. 15 sprint car, highlighted his final weekend in the Golden State with a top-ten performance at Kings Speedway in Hanford, California, on Friday, September 15. Accomplished in dramatic fashion, Schatz earned his top-ten score from 22nd on the grid, rallying through the Tom Tarlton Classic field in a hurry before capping the event tenth in the running order. The outcome resulted in Schatz’ 36th top-ten score of the 2023 World of Outlaws season, officially earning the event’s Hard Charger Award for advancing the most feature positions.

Unfortunately for Schatz, ignition issues plagued the Fargo native in his Saturday appearance at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, California. The ten-time champ pulled to a stop on lap six and was ultimately forced to the work area. Schatz returned, but was negated to a 17th-place finish.

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with two nights in “The Buckeye State.” Up first is a one-night stop at Rossburg, Ohio’s Eldora Speedway for the BeFour the Crowns Showdown on Friday, September 22. The next night brings the final Ohio stop of 2023, as Hartford’s Sharon Speedway hosts the Federated Auto Parts Showdown.

CJB Motorsports and Spencer Bayston conclude West Coast Swing with hard fought rally at Placerville

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 8th | 7106 points

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (September 18, 2023) - In terms of logistics and fierce competition, the World of Outlaws’ West Coast Swing is the toughest stretch of the season, but for Carlisle, Pennsylvania’s CJB Motorsports and wheelman Spencer Bayston, their final night in the Golden State could not have concluded much better, ultimately cashing in for a top-ten performance at the highly-competitive Placerville Speedway in Placerville, California, on Saturday, September 16.

Bayston, ace of the TrueTimber Camo, Rothco, JRC Transportation, Nyce Crete and Landis, Ecynbro Trucking, C&S Lawn and Landscape, Kistler Engines, No. 5 sprint car, finished seventh in his 49ER Gold Rush Classic campaign, advancing sixth positions after starting 13th on the 40-lap grid. The former World of Outlaws Rookie of the Year cracked the top ten prior to halfway, nearly advancing by Rico Abreu for sixth in the closing circuits.

Unfortunately, the recent Ironman 55 preliminary champion was unable to meet top-ten expectations one night prior at Kings Speedway in Hanford, California; Bayston was scored 19th.

“We were pleased to conclude our West Coast Swing with a top ten at Placerville. Barry, Aydin, and Erik all maintained a great attitude and kept their heads up in what is a tough swing on the West Coast,” Bayston said. “The long drive back east gives you a lot of time to think and reflect. We have a lot to be proud of, but we still have a lot to keep our eyes on. There’s always room for improvement. It’s our goal to compete at the highest level every night and with so many big races still ahead on our schedule, I’m more than confident we’ll finish our year strong.”

“Blackjack” solid in Jim Nace Memorial; The Grove and BAPS ahead

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (September 18, 2023) - Scoring a top five in Pennsylvania Posse Country is never an easy feat, especially in a highly-competitive program such as Selinsgrove Speedway’s annual Jim Nace Memorial. But for “Blackjack” Brian Brown, the feat was achievable, racing on to finish fifth in the 44-lap blockbuster, advancing one position in total after starting sixth on Saturday’s $26,000-to-win A-Main grid.

For Brown, ace of the Casey’s, FVP, Andy's Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Mt. Dew Overdrive, HAWK Hunting, Ditzfeld Transfer, Champion Brands, MC Power, Weld Wheels, Housby, Maxim Chassis, No. 21 sprint car, the top-five outcome at Selinsgrove was a great improvement from one night prior, concluding Williams Grove Speedway’s annual Billy Kimmel Memorial 11th in the running order.

The Higginsville, Missouri, native is certainly no stranger to the high speeds of Selinsgrove Speedway, already conquering the half mile on one occasion in 2023. The Labor Day weekend triumph was Brown’s seventh victory of the season - his first in the Keystone State.

“We went back to our notes from two weeks ago, but we were just a little off. We tried to make some adjustments at the halfway break, but we didn’t take a big enough swing at it,” Brian Brown, who set quick time at Selinsgrove, said. “I feel like we were a podium car if traffic would have worked out in our favor. Regardless, we had a fast race car and I’m proud of our efforts. The plan is to visit Williams Grove and BAPS this weekend, weather pending.”

ON DECK:
Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing will continue their 2023 campaign with another round of action in Pennsylvania Posse Country, this time setting aim on Williams Grove Speedway’s Outlaw Tuneup on Friday, September 22, followed by BAPS Motor Speedway’s $10,000-to-win Kevin Gobrecht Classic on Saturday, September 23.
