Kyle Beard Tops All Star Modifieds at Plumerville; Busy Weekend Next

Trumann, Arkansas (06/27/17) – Kyle Beard picked up his third win of 2017 on Saturday night by powering his Shawn Mann Motorsports #86 Gary Beard Trucking/ GRT/ Kuntz & Co. Racing Engine Modified to the $1,500 win in the John Frahm Memorial.

It was his third win of the year and second-straight Modified victory.

“The guys really have this Modified rolling right now, and it allowed me to beat a really strong field of racers on Saturday night,” said Beard. “Now if we can just get some of this good luck to transition over to the Late Model we’ll really be in business.”

Saturday night brought Kyle Beard to Plumerville Super Speedway (Plumerville, Arkansas) as he returned to action behind the wheel of his #86 Terry Phillips Racing/ Open Wheel Modified for the All Star Racing Series’ sanctioned contest. A talented field of 33 entries were on hand for the event.

After starting the night with a heat race victory, Beard picked up the win in the dash for cash, locking him into the pole position for the feature.

Reeling in his second-straight win, Kyle Beard cruised to the John Frahm Memorial victory and claimed a $1,500 payday for his efforts. Bill Frye and Curtis Cook rounded out the podium finishers.

The upcoming weekend will see Kyle returning to the driver’s seat of his Gary Beard Trucking #86 Black Diamond Super Late Model. The team will compete in a trio of COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model events in the state of Mississippi. Action opens on Friday at Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) with a $2,000-to-win event before moving to Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi) for a $2,500-to-win race on Saturday night. The weekend will draw to a close on Sunday evening at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) with a $2,000-to-win program.

Mike Mataragas Scores the Hat Trick at Sycamore

DeKalb, Illinois (06/27/17) – For the third time in 2017 Mike Mataragas parked his Mike Kors Motorsports #1 Southlake Auto Mall/ Rocket Chassis/ Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model in Victory Lane at Sycamore Speedway.

“Over the past few years Sycamore Speedway has been really good to me and our team and Saturday night was no exception,” Mataragas said. “We haven’t had the best of luck at other places this year, so hopefully we can take what we are learning there and use it to enjoy success at other places too.”

Behind the wheel of the Southlake Collision Center #1M Super Late Model, Mike Mataragas returned to Sycamore Speedway (Maple Park, Illinois) on Saturday for a Weekly Racing Series Event.

After setting the fastest time in qualifying, Mataragas charged to a heat race win, locking him into the redraw. Receiving the 4th-starting spot for the feature, Mike worked his way into the lead by lap 4. Pulling away from the field as the race progressed, Mataragas cruised to his third win of the season.

Ricky Weiss Enjoys Homecoming Success

Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (06/27/17) –
Ricky Weiss made the most of his homecoming over the weekend by powering his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7 A.I.E. Communications/ Bloomquist Chassis Late Model to the victory at Red River Co-op Speedway. The win was his second of 2017.

“We decided to head home for a few weeks to see our family and friends, and we got the added bonus of picking up a win,” Weiss commented. “The car was great the whole night. Thanks goes out to my family, my crew, and my sponsors for their support.”

Behind the wheel of the Derrick’s Sandblasting #7 Super Late Model, Ricky Weiss visited Red River Co-op Speedway (Winnipeg, Manitoba) on Thursday for a Weekly Racing Series Event. Holding his spot in his 8-lap heat race, Weiss posted a runner-up finish behind Billy Mooney, locking him into the 7th-starting position for the feature.

Wheeling his way to the front in the 15-lapper, Ricky Weiss picked up his second win of the season, topping Dustin Strand, Rick Fawcett, Kevin Sexton, and Billy Mooney at the finish line.

Friday night brought Weiss to River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota) for another regular night of racing action. After starting the night with a heat race win, Weiss posted a 5th-place finish in the feature behind Bill Mooney, Dustin Strand, Brad Seng, and Mike Balcaen.

Persistent rain in the area axed Saturday's NLRA sanctioned event at Greenbush Race Park (Greenbush, Minnesota).

Cory Hedgecock Keeps It Local with 411 Victory

Loudon, Tennessee (06/24/17) – Breaking in a brand-new engine, Cory Hedgecock maneuvered his Cushman #23 Valley Transport/Rocket Chassis XR1/ Eagle Racing Engine Steel Head Late Model to the feature win on Saturday night at 411 Motor Speedway. It marked his 14th win of the season.

Looking to get his new Steel Head Late Model dialed in, Cory Hedgecock visited 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee) on Saturday for a Weekly Racing Series Event.

Qualifying fourth fastest in a field of 15 entries, Hedgecock earned the 4th-starting spot for the feature. Pacing his way to the front, Hedgecock took possession of the lead on lap 19. He would never look back en route to capturing his 14th win of the season. Eddie King Jr., Jason Cardwell, Chase King, and John Henry completed the Top-5 finishers. 

Hedgecock was more than pleased with the night’s performance.

“This was our first race with the new steel head engine, and after making a lot of changes to the car this winter, it took us a while to get it figured out. Now we know exactly what it wants, and all I can say is this hot rod is bad fast! I’m excited about our upcoming races with it.”

The 4th of July weekend will be a busy time for the team. They will take part in the Salute to America Nationals, which will see a tripleheader of $2,500-to-win, NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series events contested.

Action opens on Saturday night at ECM Speedway (Arkadelphia, Alabama) before shifting to East Alabama Motor Speedway (Phenix City, Alabama) on Sunday evening. The weekend draws to a close on Monday night at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama).
