Dustin Strand Earns First Win of ’17 in Arizona

Grand Forks, North Dakota (01/18/17) – Dustin Strand got his first win of the season earlier than ever before by topping a $2,000-to-win Modified feature during the 11th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout at Arizona Speedway. The victory came in his RealTruck.com #71 Flagstaff Nissan and Subaru/ Millenium Race Car.

“I’ve won bigger paying races in my career, but I’m not sure I’ve won an event that held more meaning and prestige for my team and I,” noted Strand. “This competition is so tough out here, and this event gets so much attention that it is really something special to start the season by winning an event of this magnitude.”

Dustin Strand opened the 2017 racing season on Saturday, January 7 by traveling to Arizona Speedway (Queen Creek, Arizona) for the 11th annual Keyser Manufacturing Wild West Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts. The opening round found him winning his heat race in both his Super Late Model and his Modified. Feature action saw Strand finishing 10th in the Super Late Model ranks, while bad luck while running 2nd in the Modified relegated him to a 16th-place finish.

On Sunday, January 8 Dustin powered his way to another heat race win in the Modified division from the 4th-starting position. Earning the 2nd-starting position for the $2,000-to-win A-Main, Strand jumped into the lead on the drop of the green flag and never looked bad. Leading all 25-laps, Dustin Strand picked up his first victory of the 2017 campaign, outdueling David McDonald, Matt Leer, Matt Gilbertson, and Shane Sabraski.

Following the 2nd-quickest time in his Super Late Model qualifying group, Dustin locked his spot into the A-Main with a runner-up finish behind Chris Simpson in his heat. Starting in 10th for the $5,000-to-win show, Dustin suffered a flat right-rear on the opening lap bringing a disappointing end to his night in the Late Model division.

Wednesday’s program found Strand finishing 11th in his Modified and 14th in his Late Model. On Friday, January 15 Dustin raced to a 14th-place finish in his Late Model and a 5th-place finish in his Modified.

Unfortunately the final two rounds fell victim to rain on Saturday and Sunday.

“I feel like we may have had a chance at another win or two, but they just slipped away from us,” commented Strand. “Even at that, it was an amazing start to our year to go out there and perform so well in both cars against really talented fields. It’s got me and the entire ream really excited about this season!”

Dustin had planned to compete in the inaugural Short Track Shootout at Southern New Mexico Speedway (Las Cruces, New Mexico) this weekend, January 20-22 but Mother Nature forced officials to postpone the event until March.

Donald McIntosh Scores Runner-Up Finish at the Ice Bowl

Dawsonville, Georgia (01/18/17) – In his season opening event Donald McIntosh came up one spot short of a win in his Blount Excavating #7 Stowers CAT/ Rocket Chassis/ Vic Hill Racing Engine Super Late Model. The Georgia racer registered a runner-up finish in the 26th annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track.

On Friday night Donald McIntosh opened the 2017 season at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama) with the preliminary events for the rescheduled 26th annual Ice Bowl. Drawing 51 Super Late Models for the two-day event, McIntosh followed up the 4th-fastest time overall in qualifying with a heat race victory.

Earning the 3rd-starting position for the $6,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday, Donald battled rubbered-up conditions to notch a podium finish in the 50-lap main event. Jumping into the 2nd position early in the A-Main, McIntosh closed in race-leader Michael Page on lap-12 due to lapped traffic. Unable to make the pass for the lead early in the race, Donald McIntosh made a last lap dash for the top spot but came up short when the checkered flag flew, registering a 2nd-place finish behind Page with Jason Hiett, Brian Smith, and Jason Welshan rounding out the Top 5.

“We had a real good car, but Michael [Page] was just a little bit better,” said McIntosh. “It was one-groove so it was tough to pass, but I’m really proud for this team and we’ll definitely take a runner-up finish to start the year.”

For more results from this event, please visit www.TalladegaShortTrack.com .

Up next for McIntosh is a trip to Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia), where he will compete in the 9th annual Cabin Fever 40. The $3,500-to-win event will be held on January 28 and will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron Man Championship Series. For more information on the event, please visit www.BoydsSpeedway.net .

Bergman Opens Chili Bowl Nationals Prelim Night With Heat Race Win

Inside Line Promotions - TULSA, Okla. (Jan. 17, 2017) - Seth Bergman got off to a strong start last Tuesday during the 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals Presented by General Tire.

Bergman powered to a heat race win inside the River Spirit Expo Center to open his preliminary night at the premier midget event.

"It's important to move forward every time you hit the track at the Chili Bowl," he said. "We were able to maximize our points by winning the heat race after starting on the outside of the front row and make a qualifier."

Unfortunately, Bergman, who was driving for A.J. Felker Racing, placed sixth in the qualifier and he didn't end up with enough combined heat race and qualifier points to lock into the main event. That relegated him to a B Main, which he started fifth - only one spot out of a transfer.

Bergman battled for a transfer position throughout the race before ending seventh. That relegated toward the back of an E Main on Saturday.

"You can't have any hiccups to put yourself in contention at the Chili Bowl and we had a couple during our preliminary night," he said. "We ended up passing a few cars in the E Main, but it wasn't the showing we were hoping for. I want to thank A.J. and his team for the opportunity. It was a fun week."

Bergman maneuvered from 12th to sixth place in Saturday's E Main, but the transponder wasn't working and he was scored as a DNF.

Billy Moyer Nabs First Victory of 2017 in Wild West Shootout at Arizona Speedway!

(BATESVILLE, ARKANSAS)  As has been the norm for much of the last decade, Billy Moyer Racing (BMR) was a fixture in Arizona to start their racing season.  The 11th edition of the 'Wild West Shootout' took place for the first time at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Arizona from January 7-15.  Following a pair of twelfth place efforts to kick off the six-race miniseries, Billy Moyer turned up the heat on the competition on Wednesday, January 11 to score his record 13th career early season win in the Copper State!

Billy knocked down the fastest lap in his group during qualifying last Wednesday before grabbing the win in heat race action.  After drawing the fourth starting spot prior to the drop of the green flag in the 30-lap headliner, Billy stormed to the front to grab the point on lap nine and then held off all challenges to score the $5,000 payday for victory #817 of his illustrious career.  Following his famed #21 machine to the checkers were Chris Simpson, Bobby Pierce, Jimmy Mars, and Terry Phillips!

On Friday night, January 13, which turned out to be the final event of the 'Wild West Shootout,' the popular driver known as "Mr. Smooth" turned in another strong performance at Arizona Speedway.  Billy laid down the quickest lap in his group during the time trial session prior to scoring a triumph in his loaded heat race.  After rolling off from the pole position in the 30-lapper and leading the first couple of circuits, the Batesville, Arkansas Hall of Famer wound up third in the final finishing order of the $5,000 to win affair behind only race winner Bobby Pierce and runner-up Chris Simpson.  The final two shows were then wiped out by inclement weather on Saturday and Sunday, January 14-15 and were not rescheduled.  You can read a race-by-race recap from Arizona by clicking on www.BillyMoyer.com.

The BMR team had plans to stay out west and compete in this weekend's (January 20-22) inaugural 'Short Track Shootout' at Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  However, wet conditions with a forecast for high winds and cold temperatures have pushed back the three-race weekend until March 17-19.  At this time, Billy does not know when or where he will race next, but has no plans of competing during "Speedweeks" in Georgia and Florida during the month of February.  Keep up with the latest schedule plans for the #21 team by pointing your web browser to www.BillyMoyer.com.

BMR would like to thank the following sponsors for their continued support:  Henderson Motorsports, Garnant Family Farms, Bad Boy Mowers, McKee Auto/RV, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Car City, Clements Racing Engines, Karl Performance, Jack's CARQUEST, New Vision Graphics, Watters Autoland, Moyer Victory Chassis, Allstar Performance, AMSOIL, Arizona Sports Shirts, Bell Helmets, Bert Transmission, Beyea Headers, BSB Manufacturing, ButlerBuilt Professional Seat Systems, C&R Racing, Champ Pans, Deatherage Opticians, Delph Communications, Eibach Springs, FK Rod Ends, Fuel Safe Racing Cells, Hawk Brakes, Hoosier Racing Tire, Intercomp, ISC Racers Tape, JRI Shocks, Kluhsman Racing Components, Midwest Sheet Metal, MSD Ignition, Ohlins Shocks, Performance Bodies, Performance Rod & Custom, Peterson Fluid Systems, Rockhard Powder Coating, Stealth Carburetion, Sunoco Race Fuels, Sweet Mfg., TWM Manufacturing, and Wiles Racing Driveshafts.
