Swindell Competing at Hooker Hood Classic This Saturday at Riverside International Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (May 15, 2017) - Sammy Swindell is tackling the Hooker Hood Classic this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.

The event honors a competitor Swindell raced against during the earliest stage of his racing career and is hosted by the bullring in West Memphis, Ark., where he first cut his teeth competing.

"I raced with (Hooker Hood) quite a bit when I started," he said. "He won a lot of the sprint car races over there. He was a pretty colorful guy. We had some pretty good races, battles, when we ran in the modifieds together."

Swindell will drive for A.G. Rains, who will debut a freshened engine during the event this Saturday. The duo has earned three top 10s during five races to start the season.

"We've had quite a few things fighting us," Swindell said. "We lost the engine that we ran last year when we won a lot and the other engine isn't quite as strong. Most of the races we've run this year we've got the wrong draw of starting in the back of heat races. That's just the way it rolls sometimes. We're getting a fresh engine back for this weekend so we should be in a better position."

Following this weekend's show, Swindell and Rains are scheduled to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour on May 27 at El Paso County Raceway in Calhan, Colo., and on May 28 at Phillips County Raceway in Holyoke, Colo.
