He wired the Crate Racin’ USA Dirt Late Model Series in the main event to claim the $3,000 top prize aboard his Millwood Plumbing No. 31 XR1 Rocket Chassis Late Model.

“Man, it feels great to get back to Victory Lane. We were close but came up short last year of getting a win, so it’s nice to get that monkey off our back. These Crate Racin’ USA fields are really tough these days, so a win with this series means a lot to us,” Millwood said. “We’ve got a busy week in front of us, and hopefully now that we’ve broken the winless streak, we can grab another couple more ‘W’s’.”

Tyler Millwood returned to the driver’s seat of his Millwood Motorsports No. 31 Crate Late Model to compete with the Crate Racin' USA Dirt Late Model Series at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway on Saturday evening.

With a stout 48-car field in the pit area, Millwood earned a front-row starting position for the A-Main after topping the charts in his stacked qualifying group.

Mike Marlar Hard Charges to $15,000 Ponderosa WoO Triumph
Collects Seventh Win of 2023 from 22nd-Starting Position

WINFIELD, Tenn. (07/17/23) – Despite being mired 22nd on the starting grid for the main event, Mike Marlar persevered in Friday night’s World of Outlaws (WoO) CASE Late Model Series event at Kentucky’s Ponderosa Speedway.

He methodically worked through the field and took the lead with just five laps remaining on his way to the $15,000 triumph in the Johnny Mulligan Classic. The dazzling display increased his 2023-win total to seven with his Delk Equipment Sales / Petroff Towing No. 157 Can-Am Auto Salvage / Mesilla Valley Transportation / Longhorn Race Car / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“You know my team never gives up man, I got such a great team and sponsors,” Marlar said. “My guys, you know, they never quit on me, so I try to never quit on them. You just never know (if you’re going to win). Everything was lining up, Kyle (Bronson) had that flat, Squirrel (Brian Shirley) was having problems when I passed him and when it’s your day, it’s your day. Again, just ‘thank you’ to all the great people who keep my going in circles every week.”

Mike Marlar took the Delk Equipment Sales No. 157 Super Late Model into battle with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Case Late Model Series on Friday night at Ponderosa Speedway (Junction City, Ky.) for the Johnny Mulligan Classic.

With a sixth-place finish in his heat relegating him into a B-Main, Mike snuck into feature with a third-place run in his consolation event.

Slowly working his way forward from the 11th row, Marlar overtook pacesetter Bobby Pierce on lap 46 and led the final five circuits to capture his seventh win of the season and second of the 2023 campaign at the Kentucky oval. He pocketed a $15,000 payday ahead of Pierce, Brandon Sheppard, Chris Madden, and Tanner English.

Earlier in the week, Marlar competed with the XR Super Series on Monday at Dubuque Speedway (Dubuque, Iowa) for the Dubuque Key City Clash. Following a second-place finish in his heat, Mike rallied after a lap-46 spin to finish 13th in the 50-lapper.

Winger collected the $10,000 series victory on Saturday night at Oakshade Raceway before being crowned both the $10,000 week five Champion as well as the overall 2023 DIRTcar Summer Nationals Champion.

“Man, what a ride we had in this year’s (DIRTcar) Summer Nationals. We collected six wins, two weekly championships, and the overall title. My team is exhausted but man they did a great job for me for the past month,” Winger said. “We’re going to run the (Schaffer’s Oil) Southern Nationals race on Thursday at Senoia (Raceway), and then we may race again this weekend or we may just go sit on a boat.”

With Wednesday's show at Shadyhill Speedway (Medaryville, Ind.) falling to Mother Nature, Ashton Winger started off the final leg of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals at Butler Motor Speedway (Quincy, Mich.) on Thursday evening.

Kicking off the "Northern Week" of the Hell Tour, Winger laid down the fourth-quickest lap in his qualifying group before picking up the win in his heat race. Sitting on the pole for the $5,000-to-win feature, Ashton led the first 25 laps before suffering a flat with just 15 laps to go. He was scored 13th in the final rundown.

Friday's race at Hartford Speedway (Hartford, Mich.) was also lost to rain.

For the "Birthday Race" at Oakshade Raceway (Wauseon, Ohio) on Saturday, Ashton was once again victorious in his heat race which placed him on the third-row for the $10,000-to-win feature. Climbing through the field in the 50-lap feature, Winger took the top spot on lap 15 and dominated the final 35 laps to secure his sixth victory of the summer and twelfth-career Hell Tour triumph. He topped Colin Shipley, Brian Ruhlman, Ryan Markham, and Dusty Moore who completed the Top-5.

Wrapping up the tour at Wayne County Speedway (Orrville, Ohio) on Sunday evening, Ashton was second-fastest in his qualifying group and followed it up by topping his heat race competitors. With just one $5,000-to-win feature left, Ashton ran inside the Top-3 and challenged race-long leader Kyle Moore but ultimately settled for a runner-up finish.

With a second-place outing to finish off the fifth and final week of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, Ashton earned $10,000 as he topped the "Northern Week" points standing. Completing five weeks of competition in the Midwest, Winger was crowned the overall points champion of the 2023 Hell Tour season.

Brian Brown shines bright in Eldora Million; Knoxville visit next

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (July 17, 2023) - As Brian Brown has mentioned on numerous occasions, Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, is one of his favorite places to compete, and that statement certainly proved true yet again during the recent week, as the Higginsville, Missouri, native took to the highbanks of The Big E and ultimately qualified for the biggest event in sprint car racing history: the Eldora Million.

Brown, ace of his own Casey’s, FVP, Andy's Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Mt. Dew Overdrive, HAWK Hunting, Ditzfeld Transfer, No. 21 sprint car, finished sixth in the $1,002,023-to-win Eldora Million main event on Thursday, July 13, advancing two spots total after starting eighth on the 50-lap grid. A runner-up performance during heat race competition led to Brown’s eventual Million qualification.

“Blackjack” kicked the week off with a top-five result during Eldora Million preliminary competition on Wednesday, July 12, finishing fourth at the final checkers after leading a large portion of the program. Rico Abreu, the eventual preliminary feature winner, took command over Brown with 15 laps remaining. An incredible run from fifth to second during preliminary heat race competition set the tone for Brown’s entire week at The Big E.

Unfortunately, Brown was unable to repeat success in Eldora Speedway’s Kings Royal later that weekend, missing Saturday’s 40th Kings Royal main event program and the chance to compete for another $175,000-to-win. Despite the eventual frustration, Brown was able to activate the Kings Royal portion of the week-long program with a 12th-place score during The Knight Before the Kings Royal on Friday, July 14.

“A great week for us, really. It all started on Wednesday when we were able to lead some laps before finishing within the top five. Then at the Million, started eighth and really got going. Actually pressured Sweet for third at one point before fading some to sixth,” Brown, a four-time Knoxville Raceway winner in 2023, said. “I wish our outcome at the Kings Royal would have been a little better. We qualified the best that we could, but ultimately got behind all night. But, it is what it is. I felt like we had one of the better cars there all weekend long. Just an awesome event and glad to be a part of it.”

ON DECK:
Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing will continue their 2023 campaign with a return to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, July 22.

Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series

Donny Schatz A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 16th (16th)
Saturday: 1st (1st)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (July 17, 2023) - When big money is on the line, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz is a tough one to beat, and that certainly proved to be the case yet again during the recent weekend, eventually concluding Eldora Speedway’s 40th Kings Royal on Saturday, July 15, with another title, and a $175,000 payday. The victory, accomplished in fantastic fashion by leading all 40 circuits from the pole position, bumped Schatz’ Kings Royal tally to six total, trailing only “The King” himself, Steve Kinser, who owns seven Kings Royal championships. To add extra luster to Schatz’ ever-growing racing resume, the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion now owns 13 victories with totals surpassing the six-digit mark; the most of anyone to ever wheel a sprint car.

Schatz, ace of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Advance Auto Parts, Carquest, Ford Motor Company, Ford Performance, MadJax XSeries, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Absolute Automation and Security, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Elliott’s Custom Trailers and Carts, No. 15 sprint car, started from the pole by way of heat race victory.

Rain throughout much of the day Saturday left for an ultra-quick surface at the World’s Greatest Dirt Track. Schatz still managed to race unchallenged.

“I don’t remember a race even being that pace,” Schatz said of Eldora’s quick surface. “That was wide open for 40 laps. I just told Scuba (crew chief, Steve Swenson) I don’t know if there’s much left there. I used every bit of it. Normally that’s not the case here, but we got that rain, and it’s been a little bit choppy in spots all week. I don’t think it was as bad as it is, but when you get behind someone in dirty air, and you hit that stuff, I mean I did it last night. That’s why I wasn’t going to try to tear the car up. You don’t want to try to do that. We want to race for championships. Tonight doesn’t really count for that, but it sure does count for a $175,000 payday and this pretty damn cool crown.”

Donny Schatz opened his Kings Royal effort with a 16th-place score in Friday’s Knight Before The Kings Royal. Although a not-so-stellar output, it was Schatz’ Eldora Million tempo earlier in the week that helped propel the ten-time WoO champ into the Kings Royal throne.

Schatz finished seventh in his respective Eldora Million preliminary feature, racing on to finish eighth in the $1,002,023-to-win Eldora Million main event on Thursday evening.

“When we hot lapped tonight and qualified tonight, I could tell there was a little something there that we hadn’t had in the car that made the car roll around there differently,” Schatz added in Kings Royal victory lane. “This is my 28th Kings Royal, so I’ve got a little bit of experience. You kind of feel like you know what you’re doing.”

ON DECK:
Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with another invasion of the Keystone State, set to takeover BAPS Motor Speedway in York Haven on Wednesday, July 19, followed by Williams Grove Speedway’s annual Summer Nationals on Friday and Saturday, July 21-22. Friday’s 25-lap main event will pay $10,000, plus another $5,000 to be Morgan Cup champion. Saturday’s 30-lap Champion Racing Oil Summer Nationals finale posts $20,000 to the winner.

Bayston and CJB Motorsports will roll into Pennsylvania fresh off hard-fought Eldora effort

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 8th | 4964 points

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (July 17, 2023) - It was a frustrating week at The Big E for Lebanon, Indiana’s Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports, but despite a few heartbreaking moments that left the team with little to show for in the Eldora Million on Thursday and 40th Kings Royal on Saturday, there were plenty of shining moments, one of which a top-ten score during Eldora Million preliminary competition on Wednesday, July 12.

Bayston, who is still chasing his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the 2023 season, finished tenth in his Eldora Million Preliminary main event effort, improving five positions after starting 15th on the feature grid. A third-place finish during heat race competition set the tone for Bayston’s eventual A-Main score.

As mentioned, Bayston’s Eldora Million finale effort on Thursday, awarding $1,002,023-to-win, was left short of potential, forced to end competition early as the result of being involved in another competitor's incident; he started 17th and was eventually scored 21st.

In uncanny fashion, Bayston’s eventual Kings Royal effort on Friday and Saturday, July 14-15, ended much like his Eldora Million campaign, kicking things off with a top-ten score during The Knight Before the Kings Royal on Friday, eighth at the final checkers, before missing main event competition the following evening.

Despite the hiccups, Bayston will roll into Pennsylvania eighth in the World of Outlaws championship standings padded by an impressive 26 top-ten results.

“A tough ending to our week after showing great speed the entire time. The Eldora Million and Kings Royal were races we’ve had highlighted the entire year and to leave Eldora with nothing is really frustrating,” Spencer Bayston discussed. “We ended up being involved in someone else’s mess during the Eldora Million main, and a fast track mixed with an unfavorable format kept us buried all night during the Kings Royal. I feel bad for our partners, as well as the crew. They did such a fantastic job all week, but I wasn’t able to reward them. We’ll head to BAPS and Williams Grove with our heads held high and work to win in CJB’s backyard.”
