CHEVY SUPER SERIES POINT LEADER JOHNSON ENJOYS WINNING HISTORY AT DIXIE SPEEDWAY

            CARTERSVILLE, GA – Two-time Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point leader Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN has got to be anxious to get to the next stop on the Chevy Super Series schedule, a $3,000-to-win 50-lap race this Saturday night at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA.
           
            The National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee has a winning history at the Swims Family’s 3/8-mile clay oval, having won the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series race there last Labor Day Weekend, and he won again on April 14 driving his Josh Roberts Trucking Capital Race Car built just behind Dixie Speedway.
                              
            Johnson opened the 2018 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series season the night before on April 13 with a win at another track near and dear to his heart, Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA, his home track. 
           
            That means the Chattanooga Flash is the Chevy Super Series point leader going into Saturday night’s race at Dixie Speedway and he will carry the Day-Glo Red Advance Lazer and Machine Point Leader’s Rear Spoiler. Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, TN is second in the Chevy Super Series point’s chase, just four points behind Johnson.
           
            A talented group of drivers will join Johnson at Dixie Speedway this Saturday night looking for a Chevrolet Performance Golden Helmet Trophy from one the Nation’s most prestigious dirt tracks. Dixie Speedway will officially open its 49th consecutive season of weekly racing this Saturday night. 
           
            Many of the drivers that will compete with the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series at Dixie Speedway on Saturday night grew up there watching their fathers race there. It’s that Family Tradition that makes the Chevy Super Series and Dixie Speedway so special in motorsports today.
           
            Dale Thurman of Cartersville, GA leads the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings over a tough group of tyro drivers, and sits third in the National point standings. Another Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year candidate, 15-year-old Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL is fourth in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings.
           
            Second-generation driver Jake Knowles of Rome, GA is fifth in the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series point standings. Knowles’ father Wade Knowles has accumulated a helmet full of experience through the years at Dixie Speedway. Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA is sixth in the point standings, and another second-generation driver Travis Pennington of Stapleton, GA is seventh.
           
            The 2008 NeSmith/Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA, another second-generation driver, is eighth in the Chevy Super Series points chase, and Landon Bagby of Winston, GA is ninth. Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Candidate Chase King of Seymour, TN rounds out the top ten in the Chevy Super Series point standings.
           
            Drivers looking to race their way into the top ten of point standings include Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA, Oliver Gentry of Newnan, GA, Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN, Scott Hall of Rome, GA, and Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Candidates Eric Dalton of Science Hill, KY and Dalton Poston of Lithia Springs, GA.
           
            Also expected are Zach Pilcher of Rome, GA, Joseph Brown of Columbus, GA, Randy Dillard of Epworth, GA, Pete Cochran of Dallas, GA, Dixie Speedway veteran Buster Goss of Rome, GA, and Jody Knowles of Tyrone, GA.
           
            The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series is a unique series in that it features dirt late model race cars powered by the economical Chevrolet Performance CT525 Circle Track Engine built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. The engine is based off the production LS3 engine that comes in the Corvette and the Camaro.

            The Chevrolet Performance Fan Zone will greet race fans this Saturday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the 49th Season Opener for Dixie Speedway in the main grandstand area. Chevy Super Series drivers will be bringing their race cars to the race fans in the main grandstand area. Race fans can meet the drivers, get their autographs, and see the Chevy Super Series race cars up close before they hit the historic 3/8-mile clay oval for competition later in the evening. 
           
            There will be something for race fans of all ages, as the owners of Dixie Speedway, National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductees Swims Family, will welcome everyone to the Chevy Fan Zone. There will be free Hero Cards for driver autographs, Special Prizes, a Coloring Contest for the kids, and Souvenir T-Shirts will also be available for purchase.
           
            On Saturday at Dixie Speedway, the Pit Gate opens at 4 p.m., and the Grandstand Gate opens at 5 p.m. Chevy Super Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection is from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:30 p.m., with racing scheduled for 7 p.m.
