Woodstock, GA - National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN used a lap 14 pass to pick up the "Down In Dixie 30" Feature win on

Saturday night September 2nd and the "Home of the Champions" - Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. Johnson piloted his #85 Josh Roberts Trucking sponsored machine to a 2.351 second victory ahead of Michael Page in his #18x Baird Transport sponsored race car.

23 cars signed in for the first of two nights during "Championship Weekend" that will take place at both of the Swims' family promoted facilities - Dixie Speedway and Rome Speedway. The field would be set for the 30-lap, $2,000 to win affair through Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Pole Qualifying. Taking Fast Time honors would be Rome, GA driver Jake Knowles in his familiar #66 machine with a lap of 14.942 seconds around the 3/8th's mile Dixie Speedway red clay surface.

With the field set and Fireworks celebrating the Labor Day Holiday weekend lighting up the skies, it would be Knowles and fellow front row starter "Rocket Man" Rodney Martin in his Martin's Wrecker Service backed ride leading the field to the green flag. Early racing action was hot as Martin and Knowles battled door-to-door in the early laps. Their battle allowed Johnson and Page to stay within striking distance of the two. As the field began to catch lapped traffic, Johnson and Page cleared Martin and began to track down race leader Knowles.

Knowles was caught in heavy lapped traffic which afforded Johnson the opportunity to get alongside heading into turn one on lap 14. Using the lapped cars and his outside momentum, Johnson got around Knowles who was now having to hold off a hard charging Page that took advantage of the hard racing amongst the leaders. Johnson would clear Knowles to lead lap 15 and appeared to be heading to clear sailing before the race's lone caution flag flew for debris in turn 2 on lap 16. After track crews cleared the debris, it setup the chance for a "Dixie" style double file restart.

Johnson would get the jump on the restart with Page and Knowles battling for the runner up spot. As the laps wound down, Page secured second with Knowles settling into the third position. Johnson held onto his lead to take his first series win of 2017.

The series will head to "The World's Fastest Half Mile Clay Oval" - Rome Speedway in Rome, GA where competitors will run 100 laps for the richest purse in series history - $10,000 to win! The Hoosier Race Tire South 100 Presented by Sunoco Race Fuels will settle the National Championship and Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year chases. The top 4 in points are separated by just 24 points, with four points from first to second, six from first to third. The $10,000 National Championship will all come down to the 100-lap event to see who is crowned 2017 National Champion. Last year's event at Rome did not disappoint throughout the 100-lap affair with side-by-side racing action, and we invite you to join us as we celebrate Rome Speedway's 51st Anniversary season!
