Cochran, GA – Stapleton, GA driver Travis Pennington picked up his first Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series feature win at Cochran Motor Speedway on Saturday night April 29th. Pennington used a lap 35 pass of Cory Hegecock to lead the final 15 laps in route to the $3,000 payday.

In preliminary action, 2016 Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series National Champion Tyler Crowder claimed Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Fast Time Award by setting a lap time of 14.397 seconds around the 3/8th mile oval. The top 8 qualifiers locked in for the 50 lap Main Event, while two B-Mains set the remainder of the starting field. Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA took the win in Hoosier Racing Tire B-Main #1, while Seymour, TN’s Ryan King grabbed Sunoco Race Fuels B-Main #2 win in the Warrior Race Cars House Car #1G.

Crowder and fellow front row starter Austin Smith of Rome, GA led the field to the green for the 50 lap affair with Crowder jumping to the lead quickly. The first of 4 caution flags would wave on lap 5 for Chad Wallace who slowed down the back stretch. Crowder retained his lead position as the field roared back to life. One driver who had trouble early in the night and quickly working their way through the field was the current point leader and Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year point leader Devin Dixon who started 17th. 5th starting Pennington began to catch the race for the top spot as Crowder had Loudon, TN driver Cory Hedgecock on his deck lid.

Caution #2 would wave on lap 16 when the 11 car of Lavon Sparks slowed with rearend issues, which would stack the field up for a “Dixie” Double File restart. Several drivers had begun to work the middle and outside lanes of the speedway to make up positions as racing was fierce among the top 10. Just 5 laps later on lap 21 the caution lights would flash again this time for debris from underneath the 21 car of Mario Gresham.

With the field set to restart, Cory Hedgecock chose the outside line to restart double file behind race long leader Crowder. When the green flag flew, Hedgecock stayed right on the right rear quarter panel of Crowder’s machine heading into turn 1. Hedgecock was able to use the good restart to power around the outside of Crowder as they exited turn 4 to lead lap 22. From there it was a dog fight behind him for the remaining top 5 positions. Jake Knowles had ran his Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Rocket in the top 5 all race long and battled with Pennington, Crowder, and Austin Smith as the laps began to wind down.

Caution would wave for the final time on lap 27 for a slowing Jordy Nipper with broken left front suspension parts setting up another double file restart.  Pennington was able to pressure Hedgecock from the restart with several attempts to get around the 2016 NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series National Champion, but was denied until lap 35 when he was able to make a move past Hedgecock and secure the lead. Pennington would be able to establish a lead that kept Hedgecock at bay as he flashed under the Sunoco Race Fuels checkered flag 1.721 seconds ahead of Hedgecock. Crowder would settle for third with Jake Knowles coming home fourth, and 17th starting Devin Dixon putting together a good run to salvage his night with a fifth place finish.
