Shane Clanton Scores Win and Big Gator at Volusia

Zebulon, Georgia (02/27/17) – After a rough start to the year one weekend earlier, Shane Clanton kicked things into high gear during the 46th annual DIRTcar Nationals in his #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Car/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

During the course of four events at Volusia Speedway Park, Shane claimed a $10,000 win in addition to the “Big Gator” for winning the overall point’s title.

On Monday Shane Clanton returned to action at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) for the opening night of the 46th annual DIRTcar Nationals. With 43 cars registered, Clanton followed up the 3rd-fastest time in his qualifying group with a 3rd-place finish in his heat to lock his spot into the A-Main. With $7,000 on the line, Shane charged through the field six spots in the 30-lapper, scoring a 4th-place finish behind Chris Madden, Brian Shirley, and Tyler Erb with Dennis Erb Jr. rounding out the Top 5.

Starting Tuesday’s program by recording the fastest time overall in a field of 48 entries, Shane went on to capture an 8-lap heat race win, sending him into the redraw. Receiving the 3rd-starting position for the main event, Shane jumped up one position landing a runner-up finish behind Brandon Sheppard with Brian Shirley, Darrell Lanigan, and Rodney Sanders completing the Top-5 finishers.

After persistent rain in the area cancelled Wednesday and Thursday night’s programs, Shane was one of 48 cars signed in at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) on Friday for the final two World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series sanctioned events of Speedweeks. Laying down the fastest time overall in qualifying, Shane went on to capture a heat race win from the pole position. Receiving the 2nd-starting position for the feature after the redraw, Clanton jumped into the lead at the drop of the green flag.

Battling through dense fog in the early laps of the A-Main, Shane held the top spot until lap 23 when race officials made the decision to end the race due to the limited vision. Scoring his first victory of the season and a $10,000 payday, Eric Wells, Tim McCreadie, Rick Eckert, and Brian Shirley completed the Top 5 finishers in the weather-shortened, main event.

Closing out the DIRTcar Nationals on Saturday with the WoO, Clanton secured his spot into the $10,000-to-win finale with a 2nd-place finish in his heat race behind Dennis Erb Jr. With 40-laps to gain some ground, Shane slipped to a 13th-place finish. His performance on Saturday night was good enough to clinch the 46th annual DIRTcar Nationals championship and the “Big Gator” trophy that comes with it.

“We didn’t have the run that we would’ve liked in the final night at Volusia, but it was still a great week for our team,” said Clanton. “We battled new-car blues all weekend at Screven, but we were able to get things really rolling at Volusia. I just want to thank my team, my sponsors, and all of my fans for their great support.”

Shane is currently tied for the ninth in the World of Outlaws point standings. Full results from the events are available at www.DIRTcarUMP.com and www.WoOLMS.com .

The next event for the team is currently up in the air. He will resume action with the WoO Craftsman Late Model Series late in March with a swing through Mississippi, Arkansas, and Texas.
