GREENVILLE, MS RUMBLE ON THE GUMBO NEXT FOR DURRENCE LAYNE LATE MODEL TOUR

CARTERSVILLE, GA – The next two races for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour will be this weekend with the Rumble On The Gumbo Nationals at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS. On Friday night, it will be a $2,000-to-win 40-lap race, and Saturday night will be a $2,500-to-win 50-lap event.

America’s Leader in Racing is hoping for a much needed break from Mother Nature, who has washed out six of the first ten races on the schedule so far this season. The weather forecast this Friday and Saturday in Greenville, MS has not one mention of the “R” word!

            The Rumble On The Gumbo at Greenville Speedway was scheduled to be the season opener back in April for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series 2018 National Tour. Since then, there have been four races completed so far this season.

            The Rumble On The Gumbo races will be Rounds 5 and 6 that will be contested on the Mississippi Delta’s black gumbo clay oval. This surface has always produced two and three-wide racing for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Models. It’s been six weeks since Round 4, so the drivers are chomping at the bit to get back after the hunt for the Durrence Layne Cup.

            Two-time and defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Champion Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN won the season opener on April 20 at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, and Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS won the second round on April 21 at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL.

            Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL hosted Rounds 3 and 4 on NASCAR Weekend, with Hedgecock taking his second win of the season on April 27, and three-time Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN taking the victory on April 28.

            Hedgecock is the current point leader in quest of his third straight Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship. Hedgecock has a 34-point lead over Ashton Winger of Senoia, GA, who also leads the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings.

            Jake Knowles of Rome, GA is third with Andy Picklesimer of Ooltewah, TN in fourth, and another Cruise With The Champions Rookie contender, Bryant Marsh of Corinth, MS is fifth. T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL, RoY candidate Jamey Boland of Cuba, AL, Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS, Chad Stapleton of Edinburgh, IN, and Austin Burns of Georgetown, IN are sixth through tenth respectively in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model National Touring point standings.

            The Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series regulars will face some tough competition from the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series stars at Greenville Speedway that will be led by 2012 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Champion Chase Washington of Houlka, MS.

            Other Mississippi favorites expected include Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS, Duke Palasini of Leland, MS, Peter Hazzard of Greenville, MS, Randall Beckwith of Kilmichael, MS, Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS, and Ryan Colby of Greenville, MS.

            On Friday, the Pit Gate at Greenville Speedway will open at 4 p.m. with Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Hot Laps to follow. Drivers need to report to Registration before presenting their race car for Technical Inspection.

            On Saturday, the Pit Gate at Greenville Speedway will open at 3 p.m. with Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Hot Laps to follow.
