Ford sets fast-time during Fastrak 'Grand Nationals' qualifying at Volunteer Speedway

BULLS GAP, Tenn. (Oct. 21) — Opening night activities for Round 2 of the Fastrak Dirt Late Model Racing Series $250,000 "Grand Nationals are in the books, and Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, Tenn., driving the Byrd's Radiator/Metcalf Tree Service/AFCO Shocks/Bert Transmission/Sweet Mfg./Hy-Tec Specialty Coatings/Wilwood Racing Products/Quickcar/Simpson/Primetime Designs - Get Wrapped! Race Car Body Wraps/TNT Race Cars & Parts/No. 83 Mercedes, used home-track knowledge to his advantage in touring the high banks at 13.373-seconds to set fast-time over 49 competitors representing 10 states.

Ford's quick time also established a new track record at "The Gap" for Pro Late Models, lowering the previous standard of 13.426-seconds held by Ty Dillon of Lewisville, N.C., set on Aug. 2, 2008. Dillon is the teenage grandson of NASCAR multi-car and championship team owner Richard Childress. Dave Fieber of Neenah, Wis., also eclipsed Dillon's record as he ran a fast lap of 13.395 to time-in second behind Ford.

Highlighting the racing program on Thursday, Oct. 22 will be the Fastrak Dirt Late Model Racing Series Grand Nationals ... "National Championship Shootout at The Gap." The night of racing will kick off with hotlaps, to be followed by five heat races, last chance consolations and a 50-lap main event. There will also be a non-qualifiers feature for Fastrak Dirt Late Model competitors failing to make the main event starting lineup. Also racing will be the "McDonald's" Hobby Stocks, who will run two heat races to determine starting positions for their 20-lap feature.

The pit gate will open Thursday at 2 p.m. and the grandstands open at 5 p.m. The drivers' meeting is scheduled for 6 o'clock, with hotlaps starting at 7 p.m. to be followed by racing action. Adult grandstand admission on Thursday is $15, with kids 12-and-under admitted free. Pit admission and backside tier-parking $30.
