CONCORD, NC – May 9, 2018– After more than 14 consecutive seasons together, Chub Frank has officially retired from competition with the World of Outlaws Craftsman® Late Model Series. Frank has entered every World of Outlaws event since the Series rekindled in 2004 (except for two races due to an injury).

Over the years, Frank has collected 16 World of Outlaws wins, with his first win being on April 23, 2004 in his home state of Pennsylvania at Lernerville Speedway, and his last win being at K-C Raceway (now Atomic Speedway) in Ohio on August 22, 2009. Frank currently sits 10th on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series All-Time Wins list.

Although the Bear Lake, PA driver was never crowned champion, he came awfully close. In 2006, he finished third in the Series standings, only 34 points behind that year’s champion, Tim McCreadie. The following year in 2007, Frank finished runner-up in the Series standings to Steve Francis.

Frank was not only a decorated Late Model driver, but also a great friend to many who travel with the tour.

“The biggest thing is that I consider Chub more of a friend than anything,” said World of Outlaws Safety Director Tyler Bachman. “He’s the kind of guy you could always go to, no matter if it was something at the race track or personal. At the end of the race you could go to his trailer and have a beer with him and a good conversation. He was a hell of a racer, but he was always a great friend.”

Bachman has been with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series since 2011. He started as a pit-steward, which has evolved over the years to his current position of Safety Director.

“When I first started this job, he started yelling at me about something at the track and I didn’t know how to take it at first,” continued Bachman. “It was one of my first races I was ever at with the Series, and it’s one of the things he’s always told me over the years, ‘I’m not yelling at you. I’m yelling at your shirt’. Not just him, but any driver. They’re not yelling at you as a person; it’s just the shirt. You travel with these guys up and down the road, they’re like family to you, so we don’t get excited about penalizing someone. It’s one thing that comes with the job. Chub is just all around awesome. He’s a good buddy and friend to have.”

Frank started racing street stocks back in 1978 before moving up the racing ladder to eventually sit behind the wheel of a Late Model. After that, he never looked back. Frank developed into a dominant Late Model driver around his hometown, winning the Stateline and Eriez Circuit Limited Late Model titles from 1983-1987 and capturing the Stateline Super Late Model Championship in 1989 and 1990. The driver of Bear Lake, PA was inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2004 and now sits as one of the most decorated drivers in the industry.

“My dad and my uncle and two other guys built Stateline [Speedway] and Eriez [Speedway] back in the 50s, and they owned them until the early 80s; then they sold them,” said Frank before the Outlaws event at Eriez in 2017. “We raced there, but hell, I grew up at both tracks doing whatever— painting, garbage picking, water truck. It didn’t matter what it was; whatever maintenance needed to be done I helped out. That’s also how I ended up out on the road. The promoter at the time and I didn’t see eye-to-eye, and he told me if I didn’t like it, I could leave; and that’s exactly what I did. I raced with STARS, and then I joined the Outlaws when they first started.”

This season the Series will return to Frank’s old stomping grounds, Stateline Speedway on June 14 and Eriez Speedway on Aug. 19, although it’s not guaranteed we hope that Chub will come out to join us for one last go around.

Kevin Swindell and Spencer Bayston Seeking a Little Luck After Tough Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (May 8, 2018) - Spencer Bayston was on pace to earn his career-best World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series result last Friday before a crash ended his night prematurely.

Bayston and car owner Kevin Swindell were fast out of the gate at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo., where they established a new track record during qualifying. A fourth-place finish in a heat race lined the Swindell Speed Lab sponsored car up on the outside of the fifth row for the A Main.

"We've had a ton of speed in the car and it showed," Bayston said. "I was up to fourth when we had a caution and we restarted on the bottom. I got to the top and made a lot speed on the exit of turn two. I got to another driver really quick. At that point he was down on the straightaway. I assumed he was going to the bottom. He moved up as my run stalled out. We met halfway down the back straightaway and we met in a bad spot."

Bayston was sandwiched between the other driver and the wall, which damaged the front end too much to return to action.

"It was very unfortunate," he said. "I was so disappointed. It was exciting we were that good with those guys. It was such a good opportunity to have a good run with the best drivers in the country."

The team was credited with a 19th-place result.

"We were going to run third at worst," Swindell said. "To start 10 th and drive through those guys like we did was really good. It was a shame we couldn't finish."

Similar misfortune hampered the team on Saturday at Knoxville Raceway, where Bayston qualified fifth quickest and ended sixth in a heat race to start the main event on the inside of the fourth row.

"We were running around eighth with about eight laps to go when a guy went in on the bottom in front of us and half spun," Swindell said. "Spencer had to move up a lane to avoid him and when he went up it was pretty narrow. Another driver's momentum was bringing him back to us. It spun us out and someone clobbered us. It was just a cluster, but it wasn't anyone's true fault."

The night ended early with a 19th-place finish for the second straight race.

The team will join the World of Outlaws for a trio of races this weekend. The action includes a doubleheader at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, on Friday and Saturday before a show on Sunday at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind.

"Coming into this weekend I'd say Eldora is a place I've had success in the midget, but in a winged sprint car it's a new place for me even though I've been there before," Bayston said. "The car has been good and we have a fresh motor going in. Everything should be right. I'm hoping we can carry on the success we've had in qualifying and make the night easier for ourselves."

Hanks Posts First Podium Finish of the Season at Double X Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - CALIFORNIA, Mo. (May 8, 2018) - Brandon Hanks earned a much-needed podium finish last Sunday at Double X Speedway.

"I was glad to go there and work some kinks out with things we've had issues with lately," he said. "We started the season out so strong. Normally that's hard for me to do, but I got going pretty strong. It's like we lost some speed there. We've been working on a couple of things to find our speed again and that's why we went to Double X."

Hanks maneuvered from sixth to third place in a heat race before advancing from fifth to third in the A Main.

"The A Main went well," he said. "I was a little snug in the center of the corner. The stock cars wore out the middle of the track. There was a good cushion going in and hardly anything in the center and it comes back at you exiting the corner. Whenever I'd get to the center of the corner I'd push. I got up to second, but ended up losing one spot in traffic."

The third-place result was a great finish to the weekend, which began the previous night at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., with the ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Warrior Region.

"We had a bad draw and passing was pretty hard, but there were some who could make it work," he said.

Hanks advanced from ninth to seventh in the heat race, which relegated him to the fifth starting position in the B Main. However, the bottom row got a bad start and Hanks fought to claw back to a sixth-place ending.

"I lost a few spots at the beginning so it was good just to get back near where we started, but that didn't earn a transfer into the main event," he said. "We weren't happy with Wheatland so we made the decision to go to Double X and see what our issues are. We still fought a couple of issues, but it was a much better car."

Hanks is scheduled to compete this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.

QUICK RESULTS -

May 5 - Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo. - Heat race: 7 (9); B Main: 6 (5).

May 6 - Double X Speedway in California, Mo. - Heat race: 3 (6); Feature: 3 (5).

Hahn Finish Pennsylvania Swing With A Top-10 at Selinsgrove Speedway

Bryan Hulbert - SELINSGROVE, Penn. (May 8, 2018) Making his first starts at Williams Grove Speedway and Selinsgrove Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Blake Hahn ended his weekend with a tenth-place finish at Selinsgrove Speedway.

"The whole weekend was a huge learning experience. We struggled to get going at Williams Grove and finally did hit on something in the feature, but the track just got to where if you missed the bottom, you were going to get passed. Selinsgrove we were better. We weren't great, but we found a better balance in the car and really, with the level of competition we had, I was happy to come out with a tenth-place finish," commented Hahn of the overall experience at the two Pennsylvania half-miles.

Through Heats and Qualifiers on Friday night, Blake was unable to race through the B-Feature. Forced to utilize a provisional, the Griffith Truck and Equipment No. 52 took off from the 23rd starting spot where he was able to maneuver to a 16th place finish.

"I wish we would have run better at Williams Grove. It just seemed like no matter what we did to the car, it just wouldn't grab the track. After the B-Main, we threw anything we could think of at it and it got a little better, but I really hope we get to race there again. It such a unique layout with the long straightaways and tight corners that it really challenges you."

Racing directly to the A-Feature at Selinsgrove Speedway, Hahn qualified for the 14th position through the Heat and Qualifier efforts.

"We were better at Selinsgrove. Getting to 10th and being able to hold onto it was big for us to be able to improve on the weekend and stay close in the points."

Sitting fifth, only 67 points back from point's leader Seth Bergman, Hahn will have a busy week with Humboldt Speedway on Wednesday, May 9, then Lakeside Speedway on Thursday, May 10, and finally I-30 Speedway on Saturday, May 12.

"I feel really good going into these next three races. We won at Humboldt last year with the Red River Region, and we should have won at Lakeside a couple years ago. I-30 has been good to us in the past, so I feel like we should be in contention all week."

The 2018 season is Blake Hahn's 16th year of racing. Starting in Jr. Sprints at the Tulsa Shootout, Hahn has progressed through the ranks with over 90 victories across Micros, Midgets, and Sprint Cars. Experience Delivers Fourth Place Finish For Hafertepe At Williams Grove

Bryan Hulbert - MECHANICSBURG, Penn. (May 8, 2018) With the notes and the laps to work with, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. kicked off his return trip to Pennsylvania with a fourth-place finish Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com.

"Friday we were good. It helped that I've raced there quite a bit, and we used some stuff that had worked for me in the past. The track was tough to pass on. I wasn't locked down, but you had to hit the bottom without losing to much speed, so it helped that we were able to start near the front," explained Hafertepe who rolled out of Williams Grove as the series point's leader.

Looking to carry that momentum into Selinsgrove Speedway on Saturday night, the evening ended far from what Sam was looking to accomplish.

"Saturday we were just off and what made it more frustrating, is normally if we do start off slow, we get better as the night goes and that wasn't the case. That's probably the most frustrated I've been at a race in a long time."

Dropping to fourth in tour standings, Hafertepe and the Hills Racing Team No. 15h will look to rebound with three nights of competition this week at Humboldt Speedway on Wednesday, May 9, then Lakeside Speedway on Thursday, May 10, and finally I-30 Speedway on Saturday, May 12.

"We've run well at all three tracks were going to this week so we're looking forward to it. We ran third at Humboldt last year at the Regional show and had a good battle with Aaron before I ran out of tear-offs at Lakeside and of course I-30, we won there last year so it should be a good week for us."

Hagar Facing ASCS National Tour on Home Turf Saturday at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (May 9, 2018) - Derek Hagar will attempt to defend his home turf this Saturday when the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com invades I-30 Speedway.

The quarter-mile oval in Little Rock, Ark., is a short two-hour drive from Hagar's shop and it's a bullring where he has plenty of experience.

"I'm pretty confident," he said. "We haven't been there this year. In previous years we'd have been there a couple of times by now. I'm looking forward to getting back to I-30 and seeing how we stack up with the national guys. The local competition versus the national competition is pretty stiff. It's probably the most competitive combination that you'd see anywhere in the country. You have to be on your game and hopefully everything works out for us."

Hagar has been one of the top contenders at I-30 Speedway, where he has won main events in five of the last seven seasons. Hagar has 11 podiums, 17 top fives and 33 top 10s in 43 races since 2011.

"We have a lot of experience there and I think it's a track that benefits drivers with experience," he said. "The goal is to be standing in Victory Lane at the end of the night and I think we have a team capable of accomplishing that."

Hagar has recorded two career ASCS National Tour triumphs and his goal is to earn No. 3 this Saturday.

"That'd be a big confidence boost and a big financial help, too," he said. "We haven't raced near as much this year as in past years. It'd be nice to get things flowing in our racing account."

Tripleheader this Week for Bellm

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (May 9, 2018) – A big weekend of action is in store for Nixa, Missouri’s Kyle Bellm and the No. 14k Sprint Car team with three events throughout Kansas and Missouri on the docket.

The action begins with a pair of Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour events at Humboldt Speedway and Kansas City’s Lakeside Speedway in Kansas on Wednesday and Thursday before a return to Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway on Saturday night.

Bellm and the Greenworks Nursery/Landscapes Awarded team have posted past wins at two of this week’s three scheduled tracks.

“It’s been a good track for us the past couple of years, so hopefully we can continue that,” Bellm said of Wednesday’s venue at Humboldt.

Bellm scored a runner-up finish in ASCS National Tour action at Humboldt last year after posting a Regional triumph one year prior.

Bellm has put the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care entry into Lakeside feature competition over each of the past two years while Lake Ozark Speedway has been a site of much success including a podium finish in the recent season opener.

Bellm will be looking to bounce back after a tough weekend of ASCS Red River vs. ASCS Warrior Region competition aboard the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision machine.  Friday’s first visit to Heartland Park Topeka netted a 12th-place finish after challenging for a top-five position and then a lost cylinder while gridding for Saturday night’s feature at Lucas Oil Speedway.

“I felt like we were the fastest car in hot laps,” Bellm said of Friday’s early going at Topeka.  “We didn’t get a good start in the heat and had to start 12th in the feature.”

Bellm worked his way forward in the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions/Schaeffers Racing Oil machine, challenging for fourth when the car got loose and spun.

Restarting 19th, Bellm worked his way back to 12th in the closing laps.  “I wish we would have had a few more laps, we could have got back to the top five easily,” Bellm recalls.

After drawing a stacked heat at Wheatland’s Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday night, Bellm raced his way into the main event through “B” Main action.  But this one was over before it started when his machine lost a cylinder before the green flag flew.

Bellm looks to be back on the podium as action resumes this week on a Wednesday night.

2018 Quick Stats:  6 races, 2 top-five, 3 top-tens.

Wednesday's With Wayne: A Tale of Two Groves

Bryan Hulbert - MECHANICSBURG, Penn. (May 9, 2018) Traveling east to Pennsylvania with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com, Wayne Johnson's weekend was a mix of results with a weekend high fifth at Williams Grove Speedway, followed by a 16th place finish at Selinsgrove Speedway.

Rolling fifth to third in Friday's opening Heat Race, the move netted Johnson the third starting spot in the final Qualifier where the result was a second-place finish.

"Friday night, I really thought the draw as going to kill us, but we rebounded and passed some cars so that put us on the second row in the Qualifier, and on the start of that, Alex [Hill] spun so that moved us to the front row and I had that won, but that late caution I entered turn one trying not to miss the bottom and just gave up to much speed and let Hodnett get by me on the outside, but we were still good."

Rolling to the grid sixth, Wayne moved to fifth quickly. Battling several laps with Lucas Wolfe, the No. 5w finally gained the position only to have his top-wing come apart. Moving Johnson back to fifth, the Outlaw Wings No. 2c was able to hold off any challenges from there despite some uncertainty in the tires as the race went on.

"The feature playout out kind of follow the leader. At one point I thought I needed to move up and keep my momentum and that's when Wolfe got by me, but we got back to fifth when his wing blew off but there at the end, we got really loose to where I was just hanging on. We were running out of tire there at the end, but I had a tire shake at the beginning where I couldn't run the car as hard as I needed to so that let those guys get away from me. I just kept thinking I was going to be in trouble, so I didn't want to push it and not finish."

Starting his night at Selinsgrove Speedway with a fifth-place finish in the fourth Heat Race, a sixth in the Qualifier put Johnson in the final transfer spot for the A-Feature.

"Our biggest problem at Selinsgrove is we just didn't have enough gear in the car. I think the track just looked bigger than we thought it was and it raced differently so that's where I think we screwed up. I probably could have had 20 points higher in gear, but we went forward every time we hit the track except the feature. We just didn't have any speed like those other guys did but no more passing than we did, I felt pretty fortunate to get into the feature without having to run a B-Main but I left there upset with the way I had the car," explained Johnson.

"We've been really good with big tacks over the years and kind of struggled with our short track program, and now it's swapped. We've got our short track program working, but it's just one of those deals where we need to work at it."

Getting a chance to work on his short track setup, the No. 2c will follow the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by Sawblade.com into a three-race swing that starts Wednesday, May 9 at Humboldt Speedway. Following that will be Lakeside Speedway on Thursday, May 10 and I-30 Speedway on Saturday, May 12.

"Lakeside and I-30 have been pretty good to me. We ran Humboldt last year at that Regional show and we were good at the start, then faded so we're going to try some things there, but I need to thank my buddy, Vern. He came down with us and helped me drive this Pennsylvania trip. He'd never been there, so it was nice for him to come out. He helped me get Wayne Johnson Racing started so it's nice when he can get on the road with us."
