Hagar Scores First Feature Win of the Season With USCS at Magnolia Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - COLUMBUS, Miss. (March 7, 2017) - Derek Hagar registered his first feature win of the season last Saturday at Magnolia Motor Speedway to cap a USCS Series doubleheader.

"It's a pretty big deal to get that first win accomplished," he said. "We had a little bit of a rough start to the weekend on Friday night. To pick up a win helped offset the Friday incident. It gives us good momentum going into this weekend and toward the end of this month when we go to Kansas for a big $15,000-to-win event that we swept last year."

Hagar kicked off last weekend on Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where he advanced from sixth to fourth place in the dash before maneuvering from fifth to second place in a heat race. That made him the driver with the most points earned. However, the feature inversion was a six and started Hagar on the outside of the third row.

"On the start I got by Tony (Stewart) and started working my way through there," he said. "I got to third fairly quickly and then closed in on second place. I finally got a good run coming off turn four and got turned down on. It took out the front end and flipped us over to end our night early. I felt like we had a car capable of winning."

Hagar was unable to resume action following the early incident, which relegated him to a 19th-place result.

However, he rebounded in a big way the following night at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Hagar won his heat race after starting on the outside of the front row.

"That put us fourth in points and they drew the No. 4 for the inversion to put us on the pole for the main event," he said. "Things were turning around for us and going in our favor, but we had a stacked field. Tim Crawley, Tony Stewart, Terry Gray and all those guys were right behind us. I knew I had to get going. Tony, Tim and myself were the only ones beating down the fences in the heat races. I knew that everyone was running the middle to bottom so I told the crew we needed to set up for something different in the feature."

Hagar powered to the early lead before Crawley took over the top spot momentarily.

"Tim got by me and led a lap early railing the top," Hagar said. "I got underneath a lapped car and found some rubber and shot off turn four the next time by. After that I started picking lapped cars off on the bottom one at a time. We had an amazing car."

Hagar led the remainder of the race to capture his 44th career triumph with the series.

He is scheduled to return to action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark.

Baughman Bound for Las Vegas With World of Outlaws Following Rebound in Texas Opener

Inside Line Promotions - KILGORE, Texas (March 7, 2017) - Josh Baughman is venturing to Las Vegas to spend this weekend competing at the FVP Outlaw Showdown with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.

Baughman will invade The Dirt Track at Las Vegas on Thursday and Friday for only the second time in his career after making his debut at the half-mile oval last year.

"I'm really looking forward to racing in Las Vegas and building some momentum," he said. "We have brand new cars this year and last weekend during the first night out we were chasing it the first couple of times on the track. I feel like we have a good starting point going into Las Vegas."

Baughman kicked off his sprint car season last Friday with the World of Outlaws at LoneStar Speedway during the East Texas Lone Star Shootout. Baughman qualified 20th quickest overall before placing seventh in a heat race, which relegated him into the Last Chance Showdown.

The team rebounded in the consolation race to finish fifth and earn a transfer into the back of the main event, in which Baughman charged from 23 rd to a 16th-place result to pass the third-most cars.

"I felt like for the first night out we had a lot of balance and a lot of speed," he said. "The results didn't show up because we got lapped early on, but we finished in front of four cars that were on the lead lap. We learned every time we were out there and got it better for the A Main."

Saturday's race at Gator Motorplex in Willis, Texas, was postponed to April 13 because of inclement weather.

Baughman said he is aiming for a top 10 this weekend.

"We have a starting point to where we aren't blind going into it," he said. "The goal is a top 10. I don't see any reason why we can't accomplish that. With our 410 program where it's at today a top 10 is a realistic goal."

White Taking Positive Moments From Debut in Mississippi With USCS Series

Inside Line Promotions - COLUMBUS, Miss. (March 7, 2017) - Harli White produced some bright moments during her first-ever visit to Mississippi last weekend to compete in a USCS Series doubleheader.

The action began on Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., where she captured a heat race win - her third of the season in the first four races - after starting from the pole position. That lined her up on the inside of the second row for the main event.

"The track is a short, little bullring," she said. "It was a blast. We got a heat race win. The track was rough in turns three and four and smooth in turns one and two. We had to drive the track a little different in both corners. In the A Main I was driving turns three and four above the ruts while the leader was in the ruts."

White ran second for approximately a dozen laps.

"I got in and hit a rut and it sent me down the track exiting turn four," she said. "The guy in third got in the back of me and tangled us up. We broke a few bolts and weren't able to finish the night."

White was unable to restart the race and she was credited with an 18 th-place finish.

The weekend wrapped up on Saturday at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

"They call that the home of the black ice," she said. "The track was super, super slick. We underestimated how slick it was and missed the setup in the heat race. It was slick to the wall with a little curb on the wall. I was too loose and lost a lot of positions."

White ended fourth in her heat race, which lined her up 15th for the main event.

"At the start of the A Main I dropped back to about 19th," she said. "The track took rubber on the bottom and basically came to my car. We got a caution and then I got back up to 12th in the rubber by the end."

White rebounded to pick up seven positions and garner a 12th -place result. She also finished with the second-fastest lap in the main event.

"It was an ok weekend," she said. "There were some good things we can take away from it. We tore up some stuff, but we needed to get the minor stuff out of the way before we start racing for points."

White is taking this weekend off to build a new car before she embarks upon the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour schedule, which begins March 17-18 at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 44th annual Spring Nationals.
