Hagar Garners Top-Five Finish at North Alabama Speedway Following Rain Delay

Inside Line Promotions - TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (March 27, 2018) - Derek Hagar recorded a top-five finish last Saturday at North Alabama Speedway.

"It was a long, long night," he said. "We had a rain delay and the track wasn't anywhere near raceable. You'd go out there and just try to stay out of trouble. It was sloppy greasy and never really cleaned off until about halfway through the feature. It just made it tough to race."

Hagar maneuvered from fifth to second place in a heat race to kick off the USCS Series event.

"We got lucky and guys would hit the slop and slide up," he said. "I got enough momentum built to turn across the track into the grease and momentum by them. We played it out and waited on people to screw up and we got by a few of them."

The feature inversion lined Hagar up on the inside of the second row.

"We were on the inside in the slop on the start and fell to fourth," he said. "We rode there for a while. The car got tighter as the race went on. I had to try to be smooth and smart with it. Sammy (Swindell) got by me on a restart toward the end and so did another car. We fell back to sixth, but somebody broke so we ended fifth. It was good considering the circumstances."

The fifth-place finish was Hagar's second top five of the season.

Mallett Maintains USCS Series National Points Lead Despite Tough Debut at North Alabama Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - TUSCUMBIA, Ala. (March 27, 2018) - Jordon Mallett kept his top-10 streak alive last Saturday when he made his debut at North Alabama Speedway, but it wasn't an easy task.

"Our toter home broke down and we had to abandon ship in Memphis," he said. "My little brother came and rescued us in his dually truck. We were late getting to the track, but it rained and pushed the program back about three and a half hours. We got the races in, but the track was really narrow without much passing."

Mallett finished where he started - fifth - in the dash before he advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the USCS Series A Main.

"It was a nasty, wet mess," he said. "We got what we could and wanted to get home. No sooner did we pull up to the trailer than it started raining again."

Mallett ended seventh to give him a top-10 finish in all seven races this season. He also continues to lead the USCS Series national championship standings.

"That is a damage control day," he said. "Attitude is everything. It's a mental game at that point. You can show up and be defeated before you get there or you can make the best of the situation. Of course I'm disappointed because I'm showing up to win, but a top 10 was plenty sufficient after the way that day went."

Mallett's next USCS Series event is April 6 at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, N.C., and April 7 at Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, S.C.
