Hagar Wins USCS Mid-South Championship After Flip Flop 50 Victory at Riverside International Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Nov. 15, 2016) - Derek Hagar claimed another USCS championship and he tied his record for wins in a season thanks to a trip to Victory Lane last weekend at Riverside International Speedway.

Hagar opened the Flip Flop 50 event on Friday when he won his heat race and the dash.

"We started fourth in the heat race and won it," he said. "That gave us the high-point spot. They did a pole scramble dash, which we started on the pole of and won."

His good start to the weekend helped set up his victorious Saturday night.

"Going into Saturday we were sitting on the pole of the first feature and we led every lap," he said. "We had some good racing with Spencer Bayston in lapped traffic and held on to get the win in the first feature of the night."

The entire field was inverted for the second main event, which Hagar started in the 24th position.

"We were moving up through the field pretty well," he said. "The track started laying a little rubber, so I kind of had to fall in line and settle for what we could get. We ended up finishing sixth in the second feature."

With his feature win, Hagar claimed the USCS Mid-South title. He has now won all three USCS divisions during his career. The victory also allowed him to tie his best record for season wins, which is 16.

"All in all it was a pretty good weekend for us at home," he said.

Hanks Happy to Find Strong Car Again During Flip Flop 50

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (Nov. 15, 2016) - Brandon Hanks is pleased with the way his season ended after facing an ill-handling sprint car the past month.

Hanks posted results of 10th and 11th, respectively, during the Flip Flop 50 at Riverside International Speedway last weekend. More importantly, he found comfort in his race car.

"We still struggled a little on Friday," he said. "We completely hit the reset button on Saturday. We went over the whole thing and we finally got the car back. We had the car on point on Saturday. It was a lot better. The problem was we dug ourselves a little bit of a hole on Friday."

Hanks kicked off the USCS Series event on Friday by finishing fourth in a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. That relegated him to a B Main, which opened the action on Saturday.

Hanks finished second in the consolation race to transfer into the twin main events. He started the first one on the outside of the eighth row.

"I could have played it a little smarter on Saturday," he said. "I started midpack and I wanted to go forward to see how far we could make it up there. I couldn't make myself stay back there and just ride so that I that I would start the second feature up front.

"The progress was pretty good. You either had to be around the tires creeping or on the wall hammering. The guys in front of me were content running the bottom. I wanted to get on the wall and I stayed up there. The track was starting to take rubber toward the end. Up until that point we made good progress. We passed some pretty good cars that run weekly there."

Hanks raced his way from 16th to 10th in the first main event. It was his 21st top 10 of the season. That lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the second main event, which was completely inverted.

Unfortunately, the track was already rubbered down before the second main event. Hanks picked up three positions to finish 11th.

"It was very tough to pass," he said. "I'm just happy my car felt like my car again. I was real comfortable. I'm glad we ended on a good note."

Sides Says Two Big Wins Highlight 2016 Season, Will Return to Outlaws in 2017

Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (Nov. 15, 2016) - A pair of feature victories highlighted the 2016 season for Jason Sides.

Sides scored a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series win in April at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., which is a short drive from his hometown.

"To get a win close to home would be the biggest highlight of the year," he said. "It just seemed like it fell into place, like we were supposed to win the race. It made it really big because the Outlaws hadn't been there in about 20 years. I happened to be there watching the last time the Outlaws were there when Mark Kinser won it. For us to win it it was pretty big."

Sides was also victorious in Florida at East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, Fla., during a preliminary night of the Ronald Laney Memorial - an event close to Wetherington Tractor Service, Inc., which is one of Sides' main sponsors.

"That one is always good, too," he said. "We've won a race down there on a preliminary night last year and this year. It's nice to go down there. It's a relaxing race with no pressure. With Kimball (Wetherington) being there and lots of friends and family, it's nice to get a win."

Outside of the two trips to Victory Lane, Sides produced 30 additional top 10s en route to a ninth-place finish in the World of Outlaws championship standings.

"It's such a long year it kinda all runs together," he said. "The biggest thing is you don't get back home as much. Without being able to go home it makes it tougher to be away from your family that long. However, it's a big family on the road. Even when we're home I'll talk to people out on the road. The offseason is like being away from your family, too."

Sides said he intends to run full time on the World of Outlaws circuit in 2017 thanks to help from his marketing partners.

"Without all of the sponsors we couldn't do it," he said. "It's important that they know that we couldn't make it up and down the road without them. I'm looking forward to what 2017 has in store for our team.

"Also, a big thanks to Paul and everyone who has lended a helping hand to our team. We have a great fan base, too. We really appreciate everyone's support."
