Cory Hedgecock Outruns Weather and Foes for Frostbuster Cash

Loudon, Tennessee (02/27/18) – Cory Hedgecock broke 2018’s seal on Victory Lane on Saturday afternoon. The pilot of the Shadden Motorsports #9 Valley Transport/ Cushman/ Rocket Chassis XR1 Super Late Model picked up the $3,500 victory in the Frostbuster at Volunteer Speedway.

“That track was pretty tricky in spots today, but we had a really good car the whole race,” Hedgecock said. “I bided my time there and got to the lead late in the race. I want to thank the Shadden family and all of my sponsors for providing me with such a great ride.”

Under threatening skies Cory Hedgecock trekked to Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) on Saturday afternoon, where he pulled double duty in the Super Late Model and Crate Late Model ranks during the third annual Frostbuster.

Qualifying fifth fastest in the Schaeffer Oil Iron Man Super Late Model Series field, Hedgecock earned the fifth-starting position for the A-Main.

Challenging track conditions awaited the competitors, so Hedgecock was careful to preserve his equipment during the event’s first half. Overtaking race-leader Chicky Barton on lap 22, Cory Hedgecock held the field at bay for the remaining 13 circuits to capture his first win of the season and a $3,500 payday. Jadon Frame, Billy Ogle Jr., Craig Greer, and Chicky Barton completed the Top-5 finishers in the 35-lap affair.

In a field of 20 Crate Late Models, Hedgecock again recorded the fifth-fastest time in qualifying, which positioned him fifth on the starting grid for the main event.

With $1,500 on the line, Cory improved two spots in the 25-lap affair to place third behind Anthony White and Rusty Ballenger with Trevor Sise and Josh Henry rounding out the Top-5.

This Saturday, March 3 Cory is tentatively scheduled to travel to North Georgia Speedway (Chatsworth, Georgia) to compete in a $4,000-to-win event with the Ultimate Super Late Model Series. The event is tentative because Cory’s wife Katie is just days away from giving birth to their first child. As a result, his racing plans for this weekend obviously are contingent on this very exciting arrival.

Courtney Carries Momentum into Las Vegas USAC Sprint Car Double

Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (February 27, 2018) – Already off to a strong start in the 2018 season, Tyler Courtney hopes to keep Lady Luck on his side in Las Vegas this week.

The Indianapolis native will join forces with Mike Phulps’ Metal Works No. 56 team for the USAC West Coast vs. Southwest Sprint Car portion of Wednesday and Thursday’s “Sin City Showdown” at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas.

It will mark Courtney’s first competitive laps atop the Las Vegas dirt oval.

“I have seen races there but never had a chance to race on it,” Courtney says.  “I have a pretty good track record at new tracks so hopefully I can continue that.”

The pilot of the Clauson-Marshall-Newman Racing No. 7bc Sprint Car and the Clauson-Marshall Racing No. 7bc Midget on the USAC National Sprint Car and Midget trails has also enjoyed past success in Phulps’ No. 56 Sprint Car.

“Sunshine” scored a USAC/CRA Sprint car win during last year’s Petaluma leg of the series’ California Speedweek.

“We should have a good shot at a win or two, now we just have to do it,” Courtney says.

After piling up 15 wins over the course of the 2017 season, Courtney has already picked off two wins this season in the opening handful of starts to the young campaign.  After racing into his second consecutive Chili Bowl Nationals championship feature in January, he picked off two of three “Winter Dirt Games” feature wins in the opening set of USAC National Sprint Car events earlier this month in Ocala, FL.

Riding that two-race winning streak, Courtney looks to extend that success in this week’s “Sin City Showdown” before shifting back to Midget action at next Saturday’s (March 10) “Shamrock Classic” in Du Quoin, Illinois.

2018 Quick Stats:  5 races, 2 wins, 3 top-fives, 3 top-tens.

Up Next: USAC West Coast vs. Southwest Sprint Cars at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday, February 28 and March 1.  For those unable to catch the action in person, it is available via PPV on www.dirtvision.com.

“The Jet” will begin season with “Chiller Thriller” at Port Royal Speedway

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (February 27, 2018) - Recently appointed to the Joe Corrado-owned, Blue Mountain Energy-backed, No. 10 super late model, Pittsburgh's own Jared Miley will begin his 2018 campaign with a trip to Central Pennsylvania on March 24, this time working to tame the notorious “Speed Palace” in Port Royal for a four-figure payday.

Miley, a six-time winner during super late model competition in 2017, will join the ULMS Racing Series during his trip to Port Royal Speedway in late-March. Labeled as the “Chiller Thriller,” the $3,000-to-win program will be Port Royal's first major super late model event of the 2018 season, also acting as the season lidlifter for the Pennsylvania-based touring Series.

“The Jet” is certainly no stranger to ULMS Racing Series competition, earning two victories with the Series in 2017, one at Thunder Mountain Speedway near Brookville, Pa., and one at Eriez Speedway near Erie, as well as a Series championship in 2015. On the whole, Miley's racing resume reeks of success, earning 20 victories between two late model disciplines, super and crate, during the last three seasons, all highlighted with a $6,000 top prize during a trip to Eriez in 2016.

“I've been racing with my family for a lot of years,” added Miley. “We have a great connection and we have the tools it takes to be competitive. Adding Joe [Corrado] to the equation is only going to make our potential greater.”

Miley's last visit to the Port Royal Speedway “Speed Palace” resulted in a main event start against the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series in late-August. Although scored 24th at the conclusion of the 50-lap main, Miley's evening efforts were more than satisfactory; missing automatic main event qualification through his respective heat race by one position, soon winning one of two Last Chance Showdowns to punch his ticket into the $10,000-to-win program.

“We've been hard at work. A lot of things needed to come together to make a deal like this happen, but I'm happy to have Joe Corrado as a car owner. He brings a lot to the table and we are all excited to race with him,” Jared Miley explained on behalf of his family and race team. “He's obviously a successful car owner and knows what it takes to earn wins and championships. My plan is to continue that line of success with him.”

Reutzel Debuts New Team in Las Vegas WoO Double this Week

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (February 27, 2018) – Several months of hard work and preparation will finally come to fruition as Aaron Reutzel and the newly-formed Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car debuts with this week’s pair of World of Outlaws events at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday.

After taking in Nevada’s Sin City double for the third year in a row for the Clute, TX, racer, the Folken Brothers Tucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution team moves on to California’s Perris Motor Speedway on Saturday night before taking in the entirety of the World of Outlaws California swing over the next several weeks.

It marks the kickoff of an ambitious 2018 slate of events for the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team that includes the pursuit of the All Star Circuit of Champions title along with a healthy portion of the World of Outlaws slates.  It’s a season that will encompass more than 80 nights of racing.

“I’m beyond excited for this year,” the past Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour champion comments.  “This is a big opportunity, hopefully we can make the best of it.”

Plans had originally called for the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions team to debut during last weekend’s World of Outlaws pair of events in Texas.  However, Mother Nature had other ideas in mind with both falling victim to inclement weather.

“With Josh (Baughman) and I both being from Texas, it would have been perfect to start with the new team in Texas,” Reutzel says.  “This all came together pretty late, we’ve been working hard to get everything ready.  We’re excited to finally get on the track this week in Las Vegas.”

After Las Vegas, the balance of the month of March will be spent with the World of Outlaws in California before All Star Circuit of Champions action kicks off at Ohio’s Atomic Speedway on April 6.

While several of the California venues will be new territory for Reutzel, he has tasted past success at Tulare’s Thunderbowl Raceway with a lucrative Peter Murphy Classic score in 2015.  The Thunderbowl double is slated for March 9-10 after this week’s events.

First up is a roll of the dice at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas, where Reutzel has raced into three of four World of Outlaws features over the past two years.  Saturday’s stop at Perris Auto Speedway will be Reutzel’s first laps at the California clay oval.

A new team with a new vision, Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports team looks to start off strong in Las Vegas.

2018 Quick Stats:  First events of the season this week.

Up Next: World of Outlaws at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas on Wednesday and Thursday, February 28 and March 1.  For those unable to catch the action in person, it is available via PPV on www.dirtvision.com.

Hagar Seeking Sixth Straight Season With Podium Finish at Magnolia Motor Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - MARION, Ark. (Feb. 27, 2018) - Derek Hagar will make his season debut in his No. 9jr this Saturday during a USCS Series event in Mississippi.

Hagar, who has four races under his belt this year driving for Witherspoon Racing, is slated to compete on Saturday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus.

1"I'm excited to get the No. 9jr out for the first time this season," he said. "We've had a lot of success throughout the years at Magnolia Motor Speedway and our goal is to continue that this weekend."

Hagar has earned at least one top-five finish at the track during each of the last six seasons, including a win last year, in 2014 and in 2013. The victories in 2014 and 2013 were the season-opening races for Hagar.

"We've been fortunate to start several seasons by winning the first race," he said. "That is huge for your confidence and it kicks off the season with momentum. It's so hard to win races and when you win the first one it's a big deal."

While the goal for Saturday is to find Victory Lane, Hagar has a five-year podium streak at the track to keep going.

"Whenever you're getting podiums and top fives the wins will come," he said. "That's proven true for us at Magnolia Motor Speedway. We're usually a contender and I expect that to be the same this Saturday."

Kerry Madsen Tackling World of Outlaws Shows in Las Vegas and Perris This Weekend

Inside Line Promotions - WINDOM, Minn. (Feb. 27, 2018) - Kerry Madsen will lead Big Game Motorsports into a busy week of World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series competition in the West.

The Muddy backed team is scheduled to race on Wednesday and Thursday at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas in Las Vegas for the FVP Outlaw Showdown and on Saturday at Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., for the SoCal Showdown.

"I'm excited to get back in the Big Game car to see if we can build on the speed we had in Florida earlier this month to start the season," Madsen said.

Madsen has been fast at both tracks during his career. He's earned at least one top-10 finish per season at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas during each of the last five years, including a pair of top 10s last year. His career-best result at the half-mile oval is a fifth-place finish, which came in both 2013 and 2014.

"The key is being able to change lines at the right time throughout the race," he said. "The groove will change and you have to be on top of it."

Madsen has been equally as successful at Perris Auto Speedway, where he captured a World of Outlaws win in 2007. He has recorded a top-10 finish during four of five visits to the track, including a sixth-place result in 2015 during his most recent race there.

"Perris can be a really fun track when it's prepared well," he said. "It can have a top and a bottom and be really racy."
