Herrera Hungry for First Career ASCS National Tour Championship

Inside Line Promotions - BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (March 15, 2017) - Johnny Herrera is aiming for his first career Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship following six straight seasons of close calls.

Herrera finished second in the championship standings last season for the third time during that span. He also has a third-place result and two fourth-place finishes dating back to the 2011 season.

"We've been close," he said. "Last year we had some DNFs and you can't have those if you're going to win a championship. I'm really geared up. We worked hard this winter on our program. We're trying to make everything a little more prepared as far as the organization of our team."

The ASCS National Tour season kicks off with the 44th annual Spring Nationals this Friday and Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where Herrera has found a lot of success in recent seasons.

"The last time we were there we won and ran third," he said. "I'm looking forward to getting back there and hopefully starting the season strong."

Herrera earned three top fives during three ASCS National Tour races at the unique track last season, including a win during the Winter Nationals. He also placed second during the Spring Nationals in 2015 and third at the track in 2014.

In fact, Herrera has one win, three podiums and nine top 10s in his last 10 ASCS races at Devil's Bowl Speedway. He was also victorious in 2013 and has registered at least one podium at the track during each of the last five seasons.

"I have a lot of laps there," he said. "Turns three and four are pretty simple. Turns one and two are tricky. With them changing it and cutting the infield in we'll see. I'm anxious to get there and see how the track is different."

Herrera already has one win under his belt this season as he claimed a race in Arizona last month.

Story by Olivia Gentry - NeSmith Media

Cartersville, GA - Rome, Georgia's TJ Brittain has announced his plans to run for the 2017 Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year title on the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series. At twenty-four, the driver of the white and purple #05 say he is "ready to travel to all the different tracks and improve his driving skills".

Brittain has been involved with racing since he was brought into the world, in fact, his parents met at the racetrack. However, it was his uncle Tom Maddox, winner of the 2014 Rome Boss at Rome Speedway and longtime racer, who helped him find his interest in racing. When Brittain was just five years old he began his racing career in go-karts, and has continued to race ever since spending the last six years in a late model. In 2012 everything came together for the driver of the Brittain Hauling, Josh Roberts Trucking, Allied Crawford Steel, Rak Design, AR Bodies, Gresham Race Parts sponsored Warrior Race Car and he was able to pick up his first win at Glencoe, Alabama's Green Valley Speedway. His success would continue as he went on to claim the Limited Late Model Points Championship in the track's final season, 2013.

Since then, TJ has spent most of his weekends racing at Dixie and Rome Speedway. "I'm most excited to go to Dixie, I've raced there a lot so hopefully we can have a good run there," Brittain said of his 2017 plans. Dixie and Rome Speedway are owned by the beloved Swims Family who have received numerous awards including induction to the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame. The NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series will be making its first ever
appearance at Dixie Speedway on Saturday night June 3rd for the "Dixie Doubleheader Nationals" that will run in conjunction with the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series on the same night.

When asked what were some of the factors leading to Brittain's decision to tackle the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series Touring schedule and battle for Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year and National Championship he had this to say: "The NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series is the best late model series out there for car powered by Chevrolet Performance circle track engines. The schedule is reasonable, and in order to be the best you have to run with the best. I'm ready to travel to different tracks and be competitive and continue to improve." Fans can follow TJ's racing during the 2017 season by liking him on Facebook at TJ Brittain Racing 05. TJ and the rest of the stars and cars of the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series get the 2017 regular Touring Season kicked off at the "Rumble on the Gumbo" Season Opener at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Mississippi on Friday and Saturday April 7th and 8th.
