Spencer Hughes and JCM Motorsports Go to Victory Lane at NAS
Fifth Annual Ronny Adams Memorial with CCSDS Up Next

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (03/05/24) – Spencer Hughes piloted the JCM Motorsports / Yellow Hammer Design & Construction No. 19m Cliburn Tank Lines / Neon Bubbles Car Wash / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model to the $5,000 victory in Saturday’s Coltman Farms Racing Southern All-Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series event at North Alabama Speedway.

The victory marked the first for Hughes with JCM Motorsports since joining the Alabama-based team late in the 2023 season.

“Oh man, it feels like it’s been five years since I won a Late Model race,” Hughes said in Victory Lane. “To make it back here is good. I can’t thank everybody (enough) at JCM Motorsports. These rides are tough to come by nowadays and it’s what I love to do, so I’m just really proud (to get the win) for this team."

Staying in the team’s home state of Alabama over the weekend, Spencer Hughes and the JCM Motorsports crew made the short trip to North Alabama Speedway (Tuscumbia, Ala.) on Saturday afternoon for the Coltman Farms Racing Southern All Star Series-sanctioned Spring Showdown.

With qualifying setting the lineup for the main event, Hughes stopped the clock third-quickest out of 34 competitors which earned him a starting spot on the second row for the main event.

Spencer led the first circuit of the feature before slipping back as far as the third position during the event’s mid-stages. Waiting until lap 34 of the 40-lap feature to make his way back to the lead, Spencer snuck by race-long leader Dalton Cook en route to picking up the $5,000 payday.

Hughes earned his second-career Southern All Stars victory and piloted the JCM Motorsports No. 19m to their first victory of the 2024 season.

Hughes and JCM Motorsports now turn their attention to the fifth annual Ronny Adams Memorial, which will be held on March 8 – 9 at Louisiana’s Boothill Speedway (Greenwood, La.). The COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) Super Late Model weekend includes a $5,000-to-win program on Friday night and a $10,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

MEGA MILESTONE: Donny Schatz notches sprint car victory 500 in Volusia’s Bike Week Jamboree; WoO Kennedale debut ahead

2024 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 2nd | 702 Points (-12)

Date: Monday, March 4th
Event: Bike Week Jamboree
Series: World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series
Track: Volusia Speedway Park | Barberville, Florida
Donny Schatz A-Main Finish (Start): 1st (4th)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (March 5, 2024) - It was an historic night in the Sunshine State for Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz, not only notching his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series victory of the season, but simultaneously collecting the 500th sprint car win of his storied career, doing so in Volusia Speedway Park’s Bike Week Jamboree on Monday evening, March 4.

Schatz, pilot of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing, Carquest, Advance Auto Parts, Ford Performance, Curb Records, Sage Fruit, Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts, Mobil 1, No. 15 sprinter, started fourth in Monday’s main event, climbing to second before inheriting the top spot with 12 circuits remaining. Buddy Kofoid, pilot of the all-too familiar Roth Motorsports No. 83, was the man in charge until a cut left rear tire ultimately ended his campaign.

A caution with three laps remaining set up what could have been a dramatic finish for the ten-time World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series champion, but Schatz proved unbeatable, cruising ahead to a comfortable margin of victory exceeding one second.

“I wasn’t really worried about what was behind me,” Schatz said. “As long as I could focus on what was in front of me and do what I was doing we were going to be alright. You know somebody is going to maybe try the slider, but there isn’t anything you can do about what other people are doing. Man, we got a hell of a run and went right to second, and I can’t ever remember running a car that hard that long. It’s hard on tires and hard on wheels. It’s hard on everything.

“We kind of capitalized on the misfortune of the #83. We were getting to the point where we were having a lot of wheel spin. When your right side is up against something, the left side is the one that spins, and that’s generally where a problem happens. And obviously, that’s what happened there and we capitalized on that. Hats off to my guys. They just keep digging and digging and digging.”

Preliminary action saw Schatz time seventh quick, followed by a runner-up performance during heat race action. The Bike Week Jamboree triumph was Schatz’ 15th World of Outlaws victory at Volusia Speedway Park, earning a $12,000 payday in the process.

ON DECK:
Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing and Donny Schatz will continue their 2024 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series campaign with a Series debut at Kennedale Speedway Park in Kennedale, Texas, on March 8-9.
