Dale McDowell Sweeps Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial for $23,100 Payday
Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals at Beckley and Wythe Up Next

MOORESBURG, Tenn. (07/05/23) – Dale McDowell broke out the broom and swept the Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial program at Tazewell Speedway on Monday night aboard his Shane McDowell Racing / E-Z-GO No. 17m Cometic Gaskets / Klotz Synthetic Lubricants / Connected Strategy Advisors / Team Zero Race Cars / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

McDowell’s fifth win of the year was worth $23,100 after the Georgia native claimed the $2,100 qualifying top prize honors along with the $21,000 feature winner check. He had to endure multiple close calls in lap traffic to record the victory.

“We did have some close calls out there, but when you got Jimmy (Owens), Ricky (Weiss), and you got those guys behind 'ya, you gotta make quick choices,” McDowell said in Victory Lane. “Shane (McDowell) and Landon (Hayes) did an awesome job adjusting on the car, made my job a little easier. I just had to make decisions out there that I wasn’t quite ready for, but it all turned out.

“I used to watch Lil’ Bill Corum when I was a kid, so I’m very honored to win this race; when I was a kid, I’d come to Atomic (Speedway) and here and just watch him kick their ass, so, to have this race in his honor, I’m very honored to win it.”

Dale McDowell entered a single event over the Independence Day weekend with a visit to Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon to pilot E-Z-GO No. 17m Late Model for the third annual Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial.

With 20 Late Models entered for the event co-sanctioned by the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series and the Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals, Dale claimed the $2,100 fast time honors before placing first in his heat race.

Leading flag-to-flag in the 75-lap feature, McDowell rolled to his fifth win of the season and 17th-career triumph with the Spring Nationals. He banked a $21,000 payday ahead of Jimmy Owens, Ricky Weiss, Donald McIntosh, and Brandon Williams.

Jimmy Owens Records First Koehler Motorsports Victory at Senoia
Jordan Koehler Prepares for Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Run

Mount Airy, N.C. (07/05/23) – Jimmy Owens piloted his Koehler Motorsports / Reece Monument Company No. 20 Boom Test Well Service / Ultimate Towing & Recovery / Rocket Chassis / Vic Hill Race Engine Super Late Model to the $10,000 victory on Saturday night at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway.

His first win with Koehler Motorsports came in a co-sanctioned event between the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series and the Ultimate Super Late Model Series.

“We’ve been up and down all year you know, not having near the runs we’ve wanted to,” Owens said in Victory Lane on Saturday night. “It’s great to come down here. The track’s a little slicker and racy, and you know, I'm just glad to get a win for the Koehler Motorsports guys and I can’t thank them enough. It was a good night. Maybe we can get a little better and get a little more consistent.”

For the Fourth of July weekend, Jimmy Owens traveled to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) on Saturday evening for the co-sanctioned Independence Shootout with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series and Ultimate Super Late Model Series.

Following the second-quickest lap in his qualifying group, Owens earned the fourth-place starting position after winning his heat race. With a $10,000 payday on the line, Jimmy quickly took over the race lead on lap 16 and held off Carson Ferguson in the closing laps to bank his first victory of the season.

He crossed the finish line ahead of Carson Ferguson, Pearson Lee Williams, Dalton Cook, and Ben Watkins who completed the Top-5.

Wrapping up the holiday weekend, Owens competed with the Valvoline Iron-Man Southern Series and Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals Series at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.) on Monday evening.

Starting the $21,000-to-win feature from the fourth-position, Jimmy battled with Ricky Weiss for much of the 75-lap main event but was unable to catch race-long leader Dale McDowell and settled for a runner-up outing.

Full results from the weekend are available at www.HTFSeries.com and www.IMdirt.net .

While Owens is currently evaluating when and where his next event will be, his teammate Jordan Koehler has his sights set on a championship run with the Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals. His pursuit of the title begins next Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15 at Beckley (W.Va.) Motorsports Park and Wythe Raceway (Rural Retreat, Va.) with a pair of $10,053-to-win events.

Additional, Jordan’s younger brother Evan will be entering select events during the course of the miniseries.

Drake Troutman Bests Potomac Speedway Modified Competition
Hilltop Speedway and Tyler County Speedway Up Next

HYNDMAN, Pa. (07/05/23) – Drake Troutman wrapped up a chaotic week of racing by driving the Jerry Foster Racing / CertainTeed No. 5 ABC Supply Co. / All About Doors / Longhorn Chassis Modified to the Monday night victory at Potomac Speedway.

The triumph was his 15th overall of the season, and came on the heels of the Pennsylvanian battling adversity on the road.

"Jerry Foster has given me a great opportunity this season to drive his car and it’s nice to get him win at his home track.” Troutman said. “We had an up-and-down week on the road with the Summer Nationals. These flat tires just keep plaguing us. That’s the bad news. The good news is we’ve been really fast pretty much every night. We’re going to run Hilltop Speedway and Tyler County Speedway this weekend before jumping back on the Summer Nationals next week.

“I’ve got a lot of great people who believe in me and support me to no end. I can’t thank them all enough for what they do to keep me living my dreams.”

Drake embarked on a busy holiday week of racing last Tuesday by following the DIRTcar Summer Nationals for the third week of the Hell Tour with a visit to Springfield (Mo.) Raceway on Tuesday for the $5,000-to-win event.

With 27 entries on hand, Troutman raced his way into the feature with a runner-up finish in his heat, Troutman suffered another flat tire on lap 11 while running fourth that dropped him to the tail. He rallied to finish eighth in the 40-lapper.

On Wednesday at Adams County Speedway (Quincy, Ill.), Drake set a new track record in time trials with a blistering 11.898-second lap before placing first in his heat race. Setting the pace early in the feature, Troutman led the opening 19 circuits but slipped over the cushion on lap 20, which relegated him to fifth in the finishing order.

For another $5,000-to-win DIRTcar Summer Nationals event on Thursday at Benton (Mo.) Speedway, Troutman followed up a third-place finish in his heat race with a seventh-to-second run in the feature. He led laps 10-34 but was unable to contain a charging Ashton Winger in the thrilling 40-lapper.

Hampered by another flat tire while in contention for the lead in Friday’s A-Main at Paducah International Raceway (Paducah, Ky.), Drake inherited the top spot lap 27 only to suffer a flat on the ensuing circuit. The result was a disappointing 15th-place finish.

Back in action on Monday, Troutman unloaded the Jerry Foster-owned No. 5 Modified at Potomac Speedway (Budds Creek, Md.) for the track’s Fourth of July Special. With a heat race win placing him on the front row for the feature, Drake flew past Ray Cable for the lead on the second lap and dominated the remainder to claim his 15th win of the season and a $1,000 payday.

He took the checkers 2.112 seconds ahead of Kable with Glenn Elliott rounding out the podium.

Full results from the events are available at www.DIRTcarSummerNationals.com and www.PotomacSpeedway.com .

This Friday and Saturday – July 7-8 – Troutman plans to enter a pair of events in Ohio and West Virginia. On Friday night a $5,000 winner’s check is on the line in the Valvoline Iron-Man Late Model Series event at Hilltop Speedway (Millersburg, Ohio), while Saturday’s 36th annual Earl Hill Memorial at Tyler County Speedway (Middlebourne, W.Va.) posts a $5,080 top prize.

Big Game Motorsports and Gravel Continue Hot Streak With Win at Cedar Lake Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (July 5, 2023) - David Gravel guided Big Game Motorsports to its eighth World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series victory of the season last Saturday during the Independence Day Spectacular finale at Cedar Lake Speedway.

The win was Gravel's fourth in the last month - 12 races - and it helped bring him within four points of the World of Outlaws championship lead. He recorded nine podiums, 10 top fives and an average finish of 3.42 during those dozen races.

The two-day event began on Friday with Gravel qualifying eighth quickest. He won a heat race to advance into the dash. Unfortunately, Gravel pulled the highest number - eight - to start the race on the outside of the fourth row. He gained two positions to place sixth, which is the spot he started in the A Main.

"This place is tricky," Gravel said during a post-race interview on DIRTVision. "It gets spinny. They water the track, and it has a little bit of artificial grip to start the race. We just weren't good early. I had a couple good things. Rico (Abreu) got a flat and let us get to third there and race a little bit. I found the bottom before everybody else, but it just wasn't able to pay off."

Gravel placed third for his 28 th top five of the season.

The event wrapped up on Saturday. Gravel timed in 20 th quickest, but rebounded in a big way by charging from fifth to win a heat race. The dash draw was a little more favorable than the previous night as Gravel pulled the No. 5. He picked up one spot to finish fourth.

Gravel used the bottom groove during the feature to propel himself into the lead on Lap 28 and pull away to win by almost two seconds.

"It feels good to finally win one here," he said in a post-race interview. "Man, I love this track. This track is a lot of fun. It just shows you how much this track changes. The top was the fastest groove, and those young bucks can't slow down like I can. You've just got to be real patient there on the bottom, and it really worked out. I got the wing back, and I know I was being way easier on my tires than those guys ripping the top for all of those laps."

This weekend the action will be at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday for the West Burlington Sprint Car Showdown and at Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, Wis., on Saturday for the Federated Auto Parts Larry Hillerud Memorial Badger 40.

Gravel is seeking his first World of Outlaws win at 34 Raceway. He is the winningest driver in World of Outlaws history at Wilmot Raceway, where Gravel has earned four victories during 10 series races at the track.

Dover Produces Podium Performances in Nebraska and Kansas

Inside Line Promotions - BELLEVILLE, Kan. (July 5, 2023) - Jack Dover captured a pair of podium finishes during the Fourth of July Weekend.

Dover climbed behind the wheel of his No. 53 sprint car on Friday at Boone County Raceway in Albion, Neb., where he qualified second quickest in his group. A runner-up result in a heat race placed Dover fourth in the ASCS National Tour main event lineup.

"It was a very solid night," he said. "Come feature-time we tightened the car up a little more. On the initial start everyone went to the bottom in front of me so coming out of turn two I was in second. I got by (Matt) Covington for the lead a couple of laps in. (Blake) Hahn got by me in traffic about eight laps in. I rode around there behind him around the top.

"He got into traffic and I reeled him in a bit. I started diamonding the corner in turns one and two the last two laps. I was able to get a good run on the last lap. I slid him going into turn three and four, but I overslid the corner and pushed up out of the rubber. I knew it had to be quick and fast. I slid it too hard and when I came off turn four I got out of the rubber. He was able to get underneath me and we drag raced to the line. We just missed it by eight thousandths of a second. They said it was the closest finish in ASCS history."

Dover has earned a podium result during each start this season in his No. 53 sprint car.

Three nights later, Dover wheeled the Tim Estenson Motorsports No. 14t during a sprint car show hosted by Belleville High Banks.

"It was a good opportunity for me to see the race car from a different perspective," he said. "I've been the crew chief for the team all season and Monday allowed me to get a better feel for some adjustments that we can make."

Dover qualified third quickest before he won a heat race. He capped the night by advancing from sixth to third place in the A Main.

"It was a good learning night," he said. "Even if we walked out of there with a last-place finish the stuff I felt as the car goes was great and being able to feel the motor was helpful. I didn't think his brakes were as good as they should be, which is crucial. He was saying the car wanted to snap left in the corner and I felt that so I worked on a couple of things to fix it. It was a great night for the team not only with getting a podium, but with learning some adjustments to help us in the future."
