O'Reilly/NCRA Sprint Finale This Saturday Night
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Midwest City, Oklahoma - October 24, 2009 – After inclement weather ppd. the regularly schedule event two weeks ago, the O’Reilly/NCRA sprint car division will try once again to decide their 2009 season champion as current series points leader Garry Lee Maier of Cimmaron, Kansas leads Zach Chappell of Talala, Oklahoma by a scant twenty points as the series closes out its 20th season this coming Saturday night (October 24) at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas. Also on tap will be a special steak or rib dinner that will benefit the Steve King Foundation. Maier, a four-time series champion in the 360 sprint car division, looks to make it five titles for himself but first for famed Ochs Brothers #1x based out of Jetmore. The team did win a series championship back in 1979 in the old NCRA super modifieds but that endeavor was a combined effort with Danny King. However, focused on taking his first ever O’Reilly/NCRA championship Chappell, a 2001 national champion, is primed and focus on winning the title and becoming the first series champion from Oklahoma since Larry Neighbors accomplished the feat back in 1995. But not to be over looked is reigning series champion Mike Peters out of Wichita. Peters is well aware of tight points battles as he led by a scant 65 points in last year’s ('08) points battle and held on to win his second career series championship, first in the sprint car division. Peters will come into the finale with a mathematical chance of winning the championship even though he is 105 points out of the points lead. J.D. Johnson out of Goddard currently sits a solid fourth in the point standings and if Peters encounters a bad night could easily move into the third position in points. Former Hutchinson Nationals champion Jon Freeman is solidly in the fifth position entering this weekend. Other series regulars expected to compete are rookies Patrick and Jeff Stasa (Kingman), Luke Cranston (Plains), A.J. Selenke (Wichita), Steven Richardson (Liberal), Jason Schroeder (Garden City) and Corey Moore (Wichita). Close to thirty drivers are expected for the finale. But not to be out done, there will be a special steak or rib dinner on Saturday night for $10.00. This event is open to the public from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM and will benefit the Steve King Foundation. If you’re interested in partaking in this event, please call the speedway office (316) 755-1781 so that they may get an idea of how many to prepare for. Gates open at 5:00 PM with green flag racing set to start at 7:00 PM. 81 Speedway is located North of Wichita on I-135 to exit 16, then 0.7 miles west on 77th. All grandstand tickets are $8.00. For more race information, contact the track (316) 755-1781.
