DURRENCE LAYNE WEEKLY RACING SERIES WEEK 10 ROUND UP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 10 of the 27-Week Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series is in the books for the four Divisions. The complete results for each Division at each track are listed below, and the updated complete point standings for each Division are posted at www.durrencelayneracing.com.

Beginning this week, some drivers will have a couple of new categories shown along with their point totals, number of races ran, wins, top five and top ten finishes. We will also be showing the number of weeks they have competed and their Weekly Point Averages, or WPAs.

For this Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 10 Round Up we’re going to start assembling the pieces that make up the puzzle that will determine the National Champions in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division, the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division, the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division and the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division.

It is at this point in the season we begin to see who’s hot and who’s not by looking at a tool called the Weekly Point Average, or WPA for short. To determine the WPA, we take a driver’s point total and divide it by the number of weeks they have competed. A perfect WPA is 50 and a WPA of 46 or better means a driver averages a Top 5 finish.

A driver may be either leading the point standings or is in the Top 10 in their respective Divisions, but they may not have the highest WPA among the Top 25 in points of drivers that have competed in 60 percent of the weeks run in the season. The drivers outside the Top 10 with high WPAs are usually the drivers to watch.

The Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series points system takes a driver’s best 14 weekly point totals. At this point in the season, the drivers that have run the most weeks are the ones at the top of the point standings in their respective Divisions. The drivers outside the Top 10 in the point standings may have not run as many weeks as those drivers in the Top 10, but they may have a higher WPA.

As drivers with high WPAs approach their 14-week mark in their respective seasons, they will climb up the point standings in the second half of the season. Once a driver reaches the 14 week mark, they then will begin to net points. If a driver wins a race in his 15th week, that would replace the driver’s lowest weekly total in their best 14.

Let’s start with the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division point standings where things are wide open among the Top 25 in points. It shows that Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is leading the standings with 489 points, but he is second in the WPA ranks among the drivers at 48.9.

Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS is second in the standings with 476 points, but ranks eighth in the WPA ranks at 47.6. Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS and Tim Dees of Meridian, MS are third and fourth respectively in the point standings, and they are not in the Top 10 of the WPA rankings. Scarbrough, Lee, Russell, and Dees have all competed in each of the 10 weeks run so far this season.

The 2012 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Champion Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is fifth in the standings, having compiled 432 points in nine weeks for a WPA of 48 that ranks him fifth on the list. One has to go outside the Top 10 all of the way down to the 22nd spot to find seven of the Top 10 drivers in the WPA ranking.

Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS is 18th in the standings with 299 points, but he has competed in six of the ten weeks of Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model competition with five wins, and one second. Ellis has a WPA of 49.83. Double E won five in a row before his streak came to an end on Friday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, as he finished second to Klint Byars of Eupora, MS.

Delbert Smith of Wichita, KS is 19th in the standings with 290 points earned over six weeks of racing and he ranks third on the WPA list at 48.33. The defending Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series National Champion Josh Leonard of Gibbon, NE is 20th in the standings with 289 points earned over six weeks and ranks fourth on the WPA list at 48.17.

Lee Ray of Columbus, MS leads the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock standings with 480 points over ten weeks for a WPA of 48. Ray is tied for second in the WPA rankings with Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS, who is fifth in the standings with 432 points over nine weeks of racing.

Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is third in the Durrence Layne Street Stock standings with 448 points over nine weeks racing and is first in the WPA rankings with a 49.78. The Top 10 in the Street Stock points also contains the Top 10 in the WPA rankings. Bryan Fortner of Millport, AL is second in the standings with 478 points over ten weeks and is fourth in the WPA rankings at 47.8.

Mike Lane of Pace, FL is tenth in the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division point standings with 379 points earned over eight weeks of competition. Lane ranks fifth on the WPA list with 47.38.

Tody Ratcliff of Meridian, MS leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman standings with 454 points over ten weeks of competition for a WPA of 45.7 that ranks ninth among the Top 20 in the point standings. Four of the top five in the WPA rankings are currently outside the Top 10 of the point standings.

Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS is 15th in the standings with 294 points over six weeks of racing and the highest ranking WPA of 49. Blake Ray is fourth in the standings with 380 points earned over eight weeks and has the second highest WPA at 47.5. Tony Shelton of Columbus, MS is 18th in the standings with 284 points over six weeks and ranks third with a WPA of 47.33.

Buddy George of Ragland, AL is 19th in the standings with 281 points earned over six weeks, and ranks fourth with a WPA of 46.83. Randy Alexander is 20th in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings with 278 points earned over six weeks, and ranks fifth with a WPA of 46.33.

The newest Division for the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series line-up is the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division. Due to weather, they have only competed in eight weeks of competition, and being a new Division being built from the ground up, car counts at the three tracks running the division have been in the 40-point range.

Andy Davis leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with 311 points compiled over eight weeks of racing for a WPA of 38.88 that ranks fourth. Chris Yarbrough is second in the standings with 274 points over seven weeks of racing for a leading WPA of 39.14.

Justin Angle of Anniston, AL is third in the standings with 273 points earned over seven weeks of Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman competition. Angle is tied with Tracy Terrell for the second spot in the WPA rankings at 39. Terrell is sixth in the standings with 195 points earned over five weeks of racing. Ron Bailey is fourth in the standings with 268 points earned over seven weeks of racing and ranks fifth with a WPA of 38.29.

After the first ten weeks of Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series competition a total of 808 different drivers have competed in all four Divisions across eight different states that include Nebraska, Kansas, Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida.
