I-75 Raceway Race Recap

(SWEETWATER, TENNESSEE) – In what was "buzzed" as the best event ever so far for the I-75 Raceway featuring "America's Leader in Racing", The NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series invaded "the bullring" under a full strawberry moon hovering above the 3/8 mile I-75 Raceway inside what was the massive 5/8th mile known formerly as Murphy Speedway. When the race concluded, local favorite #5J Jesse Lowe was able to use lap traffic and a late race pass to his advantage to get back around runner up Cory Hedgecock and then pull away from #23 in the closing laps to pick up his first career NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series Touring victory in with the crowd on his side from green to checkers.

The race featured twenty-one of the best of the best in pro late models battling it out on the "bullring". The quick qualifier was Jesse Lowe as he blistered the track with a 13.341 second lap in Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Quick Time Qualifying to lock the P1 position. Another note was #19 Mississippi native Marcus Minga was fast and started feature in P2, his best qualifying run with NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series in 2017. After losing a right rear wheel during his qualifying run #171 Kyle Courtney was able to rally around #0 Ross White to take the single B-Main win of the night. With that the field was set for the 40 lap $2000 to win feature race in front of the Tennessee crowd and full moon above the raceway, what would happen??

The initial start of the race made many think the full moon lunar effect would go into motion after a nasty crash off turn two involving #19 Minga which caused his Rocket Chassis flip down the backstretch and also collected #23 Barry Anderson after colliding into him after contact with #56jr of Colton Horner. The red flag would stop the race and all drivers were able to walk away okay. On the second go it was Lowe jumping out front. After a few more cautions being thrown for single car spins, the race would get intense the final 10 laps. On lap 30 that Hedgecock began to turn up the pressure to run down and get by Lowe around the outside of the speedway.

Cory would take the top spot on lap 33 and in the process the top two were quickly encountering back marker cars. Hedgecock would drive the top side of the track trying to make something work up top, while Lowe would stay to the bottom.  With three laps to go and Hedgecock pinned by lap cars, Lowe would use that to his advantage to clear by Hedgecock and sail his way to the Sunoco Race Fuels checkered flag for his career first win for "America's Leader in Racing" with the hometown fans beside themselves.
