Cartersville, GA - Week 25 of the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Late Model Season is complete, and with just two weeks of competition remaining, Nebraska's Josh Leonard has achieved the 700 point "perfect" season after taking home a Week 25 win and a Week 6 Make-Up at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE. Along with the "perfect" score, Leonard has secured enough 50 point wins to win in case of a tie breaker. That means that Josh Leonard will be crowned the 2017 NeSmith Weekly Racing Series National Champion at the annual awards banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA in January 2018. He will also collect a $10,000 payday for his 2017 efforts along with the accolades that go with becoming the National Champion. Leonard's first season of NeSmith Late Model competition saw him compete at Junction Motor Speedway, Lexington Raceway, and Salina Speedway in Kansas marking the first time since the westward expansion that a driver from outside the deep south will take home the National Championship.
Even though the National Championship is secured, there is still a close battle amongst drivers inside, and just outside, of the top ten. Those battles will be what we turn our attention to in the final two weeks to see what other drivers are invited to the annual awards banquet in January.
