10K-To-Win 10th Annual Southern 100 at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL Up Next for NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series
CARTERSVILLE, GA - The $10,000-to-win 10th Annual Southern 100 is up next for the 2017NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series this Thursday, Friday and Saturday at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL. This will be the penultimate race of the 2017 season for America's Leader in racing, and the second straight year NeSmith Racing has sanctioned this event.
The expected entries for the 10th Annual Southern 100 are rolling in. Not only will NeSmith regular travelers like two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Cory Hedgecock of Loudon, TN and the defending Southern 100 Champion Andy Picklesimer of Ooltewah, TN be on that list but there are many more hot shoes that will looking for the $10,000.
While Hedgecock has clinched his second straight NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship with two races to go in the 2017 season, Picklesimer is in a tight battle, not only for the National Championship Runners-Up spot, but also for the 2017 Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year Award.
Hedgecock has 1,302 points after six wins, 11 top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 14 races. Grant Garrison of Walton, KY is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series points chase and leads the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year standings with 1,090 points after two top five finishes and seven top ten finishes in 14 races.
There are three other Cruise With The Champions RoY candidates behind Garrison in the top six of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS point standings. In third is 14-year-old Colton Horner of Katy, TX with 1,008 points after one top five finish and five top ten finishes in 14 races. Veteran Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS is fourth with 938 points and two top ten finishes in 14 races.
Cruise With The Champions Rookie contender T.J. Brittain of Centre, AL is fifth with 936 points after one top five finish and five top ten finishes in 14 races. Picklesimer is sixth with 922 points after two top five finishes in 14 races.
There are many more top entries expected for the Southern 100 this weekend at Southern Raceway including three-time NeSmith National Champion and National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN, Jake Knowles of Rome, GA, Shep Lucas of McKenzie, AL, Todd Morrow of Cleveland, TN, Kody Barber of Bogalusa, LA, the 2016 Sunoco Young Gun Champion Bryant Marsh of Corinth, MS, and Travis Pennington of Stapleton, GA.
The Sunshine State will be well represented with Kyle Bronson of Brandon, FL, Mark Whitener of Middleburg, FL, Devin Dixon of Tampa, FL, and Tyler Clem of St. Petersburg, FL. Local Florida Panhandle favorites will include Cody Smith of Holt, FL, Joseph Joiner of Milton, FL, Kyle Bryant of Navarre, FL, and Josh Huss from just across the state line in Flomaton, AL.
"Dr. Dirt " Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS will handle the track prep on the Southern Raceway surface for the $10,000-to-win 10th Annual Southern 100 for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series. Stokes will be in charge of track prep for the last two events of the 2017 season for the NeSmith Late Models, each paying $10,000-to-win.
Stokes is the Promoter of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS season finale at his Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS on November 23, 24, and 25 with the $10,000-to-win Possum Town Grand Prix.
On track action for the 10th Annual Southern 100 at Southern Raceway will begin on Thursday night with an Open Practice Session from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Friday, the pit gate opens at 2 p.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Driver's Meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. and racing is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Friday night's competition will include Sunoco/Knowles Racing Parts and Bodies Group Qualifying and Heat Races to determine the top starting spots for Saturday night's $10,000-to-win Southern 100. Drivers that fail to transfer to the Big Show, will have another opportunity to make the race on Saturday night through a B-Main Race.
On Saturday, the pit gate opens at 9 a.m. with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series check in from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Driver's Meeting is at 5:30 p.m. and Racing is scheduled for 6 p.m.
