USAC Triple on Deck for Sunshine after No Way Out 40 Top Five

Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 27, 2018) – A busy weekend of action awaits Tyler Courtney with a pair of USAC National Sprint Car events on Friday and Saturday before his first Silver Crown competition of the young season on Sunday.

It begins Friday night with Sunshine and the Clauson-Newman-Marshall Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc Sprint Car team taking to Bloomington Speedway before moving on to Haubstadt’s Tri-State Speedway on Saturday night.  Courtney will finish out the weekend aboard Hans Leins’ No. 97 USAC Silver Crown entry at the Terre Haute Action Track.

Courtney raced to a top-ten finish in USAC Indiana Sprintweek action at Bloomington last year while also picking up a Midget Week win atop the picturesque clay oval.  He also scored a pair of top-five finishes in his most recent pair of Tri-State Speedway outings.

Sunday’s Sumar Classic at Terre Haute will mark Courtney’s first Silver Crown outing since finishing off the 2017 season with a triumph in Eldora’s Four Crown Nationals.

Sitting third in USAC National Sprint Car points after the season0-opening triple in Florida where he topped two of three features, Courtney finally got back into Sprint Car action with last Friday night’s No Way Out 40 at Brownstown Speedway.

Courtney made the most of the non-sanctioned event, winning his heat race and then posting a fourth-place finish for his second consecutive No Way Out 40 top-five run.

With last Saturday’s scheduled USAC Sprint Car card falling victim to wet grounds at Montpelier, Courtney and the Clauson-Marshall Racing Driven2SaveLives/Indiana Donor Network No. 7bc Midget mad the last minute decision to dash down to Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway for a POWRi Midget clash.

Courtney won his heat race from a front row outside starting position to earn the eighth slot in the feature starting grid.  After cutting a tire early, Courtney rallied back through the field and was battling for the lead and a potential fourth overall win of the year when his left rear tire fell victim of an abrasive surface mere laps away from the checkered flag.

2018 Quick Stats:  13 races, 3 wins, 7 top-fives, 7 top-tens.

Up Next:

Friday – USAC National Sprint Cars at Bloomington (IN) Speedway.

Reutzel Guns for Mansfield $100K after Two More All Star Top Tens

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (April 27, 2018) –  A hefty payday looms in the balance as Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team make a run at the $100,000 winner’s share in this weekend’s Sprint Car World Championship event at Ohio’s Mansfield Motorsports Park.

The event takes place on Friday and Saturday.

“It would be incredible to win that and the way we have started, we feel good going into it,” Reutzel commented.  “If things fall our way, we have a good shot at it.”

Reutzel’s impressive start to the season aboard the Folkens Brothers Tucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car included another pair of All Star Circuit of Champions top-ten feature finishes last weekend before Sunday’s scheduled World of Outlaws outing at Haubstadt, IN, fell victim to rain.

Last weekend’s All Star action began at Attica Raceway Park, where Reutzel timed in well aboard the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment entry and raced into the dash.  “We were really good in the heat, then the dashes are so short that you never really get time to get a run,” Reutzel explained.

Gridding seventh in the feature, Reutzel ultimately finished seventh.

“We missed it a little in the feature,” Reutzel said.  “We thought it was as slick as it would get in the dash, but it slicked up even more.  We fell back to about 12th, but there was a late restart and I was able to jump up top and get some spots back.”

From there, action moved on to Orrville, Ohio’s Wayne County Speedway on Saturday night where Reutzel timed in well once again aboard the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions entry.  “We actually timed too good, we couldn’t really go anywhere in the heat and missed the dash,” Reutzel explains.

After starting 11th in the feature, Reutzel worked to a ninth-place finish for his third consecutive top-ten finish in All Star competition.

“We were good enough to stay with people but we just weren’t good enough to race with them,” Reutzel explains.

Reutzel and the BRM team are adjusting well to the new tracks on the All Star trail thus far.

“We’re still figuring out these tracks that we’re seeing for the first time,” Reutzel says.  “We’re just trying to learn and try to get better the next time we see them.”

While the top-tens have Reutzel in the thick of the points race, the Clute, TX, racer obviously looks for better results.

“We need to get to running top-five on a regular basis,” Reutzel explains.  “But until we get things figured out a little better on these tracks, we’ll take the top tens.”

There are no points on the line this weekend though.  It’s all about capturing that $100,000 winner’s share that awaits at the end of Saturday night’s feature at Mansfield Motor Speedway.

2018 Quick Stats:  12 races, 1 win, 5 top-fives, 5 top-tens.

Bellm to the Lake after Creek Top-Five

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (April 27, 2018) – Kyle Bellm and the Nixa, Missouri based No. 14k Sprint Car team got back into action in strong form with a fourth-place run in last Friday night’s ASCS Red River Region event atop the ¼-mile Creek County Speedway clay oval near Tulsa, OK.

With his second top-ten run in three events thus far, Bellm and the Greenworks Nursery/Landscapes Awarded team take to Eldon, Missouri’s Lake Ozark Speedway for the first time this season on Saturday night.

Bellm came out of the gates quickly at Creek County, turning the quickest times in hot laps aboard the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care entry before racing from fourth to second in his heat race.

After starting sixth in the feature, Bellm worked his way to a fourth-place finish in the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision machine.

“I think we were a little better than a fourth-place car, it was really slick and we raced side-by-side for a long time with a couple of guys along the way,” Bellm relates.  “It was a good, solid top-five so we’ll take it.”

Bellm looks forward to getting back to Lake Ozark Speedway this weekend, a track that treated him well last year with four wins among eight top-fives in ten starts aboard the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions/Schaeffers Racing Oil entry atop the Missouri oval.

“I’m anxious to get back there, hopefully we can pick up where we left off last year,” Bellm comments.

Saturday’s season-opening event at Lake Ozark Speedway is set to get under way at 8:00 p.m.

2018 Quick Stats:  3 races, 1 top-five, 2 top-tens.

Midgets for McIntosh on Saturday after Top Ten in Sprint Car Debut

Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (April 27, 2018) – It was without question a successful Sprint Car debut for 15-year-old Cannon McIntosh in last Friday’s ASCS Red River Region event at Creek County Speedway near Tulsa, OK.

With a top-ten finish in his first ASCS competition, McIntosh and the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget team are back in action with the POWRi West Midget League on Saturday night at Oklahoma City’s I-44 Riverside Speedway.

The Sprint Car debut got off to a rough start when McIntosh was collected by a spinning car in his heat race.  “He spun and there wasn’t anywhere to go,” McIntosh recalls.

The young racer bounced right back though, advancing through “B” Main action and then climbing all the way from the 19th starting position to finish tenth in the feature event atop the tight ¼-mile clay oval.

“I was able to work the bottom of the track really well, nobody else was there so I was able to get on the berm and just pick them off one by one,” McIntosh says.

McIntosh will be back in Sprint Car action with the ASCS Warrior Region next weekend in Missouri.  “I’m looking forward to it, I’m just getting used to the speed and I think it’s going to make us that much better in the Midget,” McIntosh explains.

For now, it’s back to Midget action on Saturday night after a rough-luck trip to Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway last Saturday.

After circling the I-55 clay in rapid fashion in hot laps, fuel system issues kept McIntosh from making any more green flag laps on the night.

“It was disappointing, especially after being as fast as we were in hot laps,” McIntosh comments.

McIntosh and crew are ready to bounce back this weekend though with a return to I-44 Riverside Speedway, where he topped a POWRi National Midget heat race to open the season in March.

“I’m excited about it, we had some good speed there last time and I think we can build on that,” McIntosh says.  “And we’re definitely looking for redemption after last weekend.”

That redemption can come atop the 1/5-mile I-44 Riverside Speedway clay oval on Saturday night.
