Nick Hoffman Stays Perfect in Summit Modified Nationals Opening Week
Sweeps First Five Series Events; Leads Points into Week No. 2

Mooresville, North Carolina (06/21/21) – Nick Hoffman registered a dominant performance in the opening week of the 2021 Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. The pilot of the Elite Chassis No. 2 Wehrs Machine / Fox Shocks Modified swept all five events.

Along the way he led every lap of feature action and pushed his career-win tally with the series to 43, as his 2021 overall win total expanded to 16.

“This is by far the best start to a season I’ve ever had. Usually I get rolling during the summer, but right now our team is hitting on all cylinders. We couldn’t have scripted this past week any better, and now we are focused on continuing this hot streak when action resumes Wednesday at La Salle.

“A huge thank you goes out to everyone, who supports my program and makes this all possible.”

Getting the party started last Tuesday at Brownstown Speedway, Nick Hoffman recorded a dominating victory in the opening round of the 2021 Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals. With 30 entries in action, Hoffman won his heat race to earn the pole position for the 25-lap finale.

Leading flag-to-flag, Hoffman recorded his 12th win of the season and his 39th-career Modified Nationals triumph. Tyler Nicely, Steven Brooks, Jacoby Hines, and John Demoss completed the Top-5 finishers.

Wednesday night took the team to Peoria Speedway (Peoria, Ill.) for the second round of the Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals, where Hoffman made a clean sweep of the night. He set fast time in qualifications, won his heat race, and then led all 25 laps from the pole position to claim his 40th-career series win.

“I was trying to pick the smoothest line down this front straightaway, just didn’t want anything to happen. Hats off to the track prep crew, it was probably the best I’ve ever seen this place,” Hoffman said. “Dave [Wietholder] – he’s one of my customers – he’s been on a tear up here, so for him to run second, that’s pretty cool.”

Following Hoffman across the finish line was Dave Wietholder, Ray Bollinger, Allen Weisser, and Tyler Nicely.

Nick kept the train rolling on Thursday night with his third Summit Modified Nationals win in as many nights with a triumph at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway. Twenty-six drivers were in action, and Nick won his heat race before drawing the pole for the feature. He went on to pace all 25 laps to pick up his 14th win of the year. Curt Spalding, Nick Allen, Tyler Nicely, and Levi Kissinger completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Friday night Hoffman stormed to his fourth-straight win with the miniseries. Nick won his heat race and then once again led every lap of the feature to pick up the victory, which marked his 15th of the 2021 campaign, and his 42nd-career Summit Equipment Modified Nationals victory.

On Saturday night the famed Fairbury Speedway (Fairbury, Ill.) hosted the series, and it was more of the same for Hoffman. After earning the pole position via preliminary action for the 39-car field, Hoffman paced all 30 laps of the feature to record the $2,000 victory. Curt Spalding, Nick Allen, Tommy Sheppard Jr., and Allen Weisser completed the Top-5 finishers.

“I had a memory pop up on my Facebook today of two years ago [during] Summer Nationals, and it was a quote that I was off to a rough start to Summer Nationals, and man, this is the total opposite,” Hoffman said in Victory Lane. “I couldn’t be more proud of what our team accomplished this week. Five wins in five nights against this competition is pretty awesome.”

Sunday night’s event at Indiana’s Plymouth Speedway fell victim to rain.

With a perfect week in the books, Hoffman holds a 125-point advantage atop the standings as he pursues his fourth series title.

Nick Hoffman Racing will now enjoy a few days off before returning to action on Wednesday with the series at La Salle Speedway (La Salle, Ill.). On Thursday the tour moves to Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Ill.) before invading Sycamore Speedway (Maple Park, Ill.) on Friday. The weekend is rounded out with Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 (Pevely, Mo.) on Saturday and Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway on Sunday.

Rocket1 Racing and Brandon Sheppard Finish Second at Stateline
15th Annual Firecracker 100 at Lernerville Up Next

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (06/21/21) – In a weekend, where Mother Nature was the big winner, Brandon Sheppard and the Rocket1 Racing were able to enter only one event with their Valvoline No. 1 Seubert Calf Ranches/ Durham Racing Engines-powered XR1 Rocket Chassis Super Late Model.

The team’s lone start resulted in a runner-up performance with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series on Thursday night at New York’s Stateline Speedway.

“It was a bummer to only get to run one event this weekend, but weather is just part of the game,” Sheppard said. “We got the one race in on Thursday at Stateline Speedway. Congrats to Dave (Hess Jr.), he did a phenomenal job there. He moved up when he needed to move up, and he was really good there through lapped traffic. We could both kind of get through them about the same amount. They were all on the bottom and that didn’t leave me much room to do anything with ‘em.

“I think we had a really good race car, but it just wasn’t our night,” he added. “Sometimes it goes that way. This week we’re looking forward to the Firecracker 100. That’s a race I want to win. We’ve won prelims there, but never the finale. Hopefully this year is the year we can make it happen.”

Embarking on a scheduled three-race, eastern swing weekend with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Morton Buildings Late Model Series, Brandon Sheppard and the Rocket1 Racing traveled to Stateline Speedway (Busti, N.Y.) on Thursday afternoon. With 36 Late Models entered, Sheppard clocked in fourth fastest in his group before picking up a 10-lap heat race victory.

Earning the third-starting position for the opening night feature via the redraw, Brandon was unable to close the distance on race-long leader Dave Hess Jr. in the 40-lapper, crossing the finish line in the second position. Max Blair, Boom Briggs, and Chris Madden completed the Top-5 finishers.

Mother Nature won both Friday and Saturday night’s events at Thunder Mountain Speedway (Knox Dale, Pa.) and Selinsgrove Speedway (Selinsgrove, Pa.).

Brandon sits atop the latest World of Outlaws point standings with a 52-point advantage.

WoO Super Late Model action will take the team to Pennsylvania’s Lernerville Speedway this weekend for the 15th annual Firecracker 100. On both Thursday and Friday a $6,000-to-win program is on the slate, while the weekend draws to a close with a $30,000-to-win finale on Saturday night.

Sheppard won a preliminary feature at the 2020 edition of the event before finishing sixth in the finale.

Tony Jackson Jr. Wins Freedom Classic Opener at “The Highbanks”
Prepares for Deer Creek Speedway Doubleheader

LEBANON, Mo. (06/21/21) Tony Jackson Jr. hit the ground running on Friday night with a $3,000 Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) victory at Salina Highbanks Speedway. With his fourth win of the year, Jackson Jr. extended his advantage atop the latest Lucas Oil MLRA standings in his Lebanon Ready Mix No. 56 Willard Quarries / Base Fuels / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model.

“We had to work on it a little bit tonight, but it was good," Jackson said in Victory Lane on Friday night. “When you get good race cars up there it’s hard to get by them, so you know the first few laps are pretty crucial. We were able to get a pretty good start and hold them off.”

Friday night saw Tony Jackson Jr. return to competition with the Lucas Oil Midwest Late Model Racing Association (MLRA) at Salina Highbanks Speedway (Salina, Okla.) with the two-day Freedom Classic. In a field of 14 cars, Tony came in fourth fastest overall before picking up a heat race win.

Leading flag-to-flag in the 30-lap feature, Jackson Jr. cruised to his fourth win of the season, which came over Garrett Alberson, Jeremiah Hurst, Daniel Hilsabeck, and Justin Duty. He collected $3,000 for his 11th-career MLRA triumph.

The following night, Jackson Jr. secured his spot into the $5,000-to-win finale with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Jason Papich. Unable to close the distance on race-long pacesetter Jesse Stovall, Tony settled with a runner-up finish in the 40-lapper. Tony Toste, Kylan Garner, and Chris Kratzer completed the Top-5 finishers.

“Jesse (Stovall) had a great car on Saturday night, and we came up a little bit short of a weekend sweep. It was still two great nights of racing for our team, and now we are getting ready to head to Deer Creek Speedway for two big races.”

Tony continues to reside atop the Lucas MLRA point standings. Full results from these events as well as the latest series standings are available at www.MLRARacing.com .

The upcoming weekend – June 25-26 – take Tony and the Lucas Oil MLRA contingent north to Minnesota’s Deer Creek Speedway for the NAPA Auto Parts Gopher 50. The doubleheader, which is co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS), features a $12,000-to-win program on Friday and a $15,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

Reutzel Carries Six-Race Top-Ten Streak into World of Outlaws “Showdown Week”

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (June 21, 2021) – Aaron Reutzel and the Roth Motorsports No. 83 Sprint Car team have hit their stride in recent World of Outlaws competition.

Reutzel has reeled off six consecutive top-ten feature finishes which bodes well going into the week of “The Showdown” that offers up a potentially lucrative week of racing action in South Dakota and Minnesota that could net in excess of more than $180,000 in the event of a pair of timely wins.

It begins with the “Huset’s 50” on Monday and Tuesday at Huset’s Speedway on Brandon, SD, before moving on to the “Jackson Nationals” at Minnesota’s Jackson Motorplex on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  The Tuesday Huset’s 50 finale offers $30,000-to-win while Saturday’s Jackson Nationals main event features a $50,000 winner’s share with a $100,000 bonus for the driver that can win both.

Reutzel stands as a strong contender after topping his most recent outing at Huset’s Speedway with an All Star Circuit of Champions win last year while also posting a runner-up finish at the Jackson Motorplex in 2018 after a win in 2017.

With a number of cash-heavy events coming up after this week’s handful of race nights, Reutzel and the Roth crew are continuing to build momentum at precisely the right time as he holds a strong edge in the World of Outlaws “Rookie of the Year” chase after three consecutive All Star Circuit of Champions titles in previous years.

Reutzel’s recent run of strong finishes began on June 5 at Sauk Rapids, Minnesota’s Granite City Speedway where a critical charge from fifth to second in heat race action led to a front row feature start and a fourth-place finish on the night.

A World of Outlaws double at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway followed on June 11-12 with Reutzel rallying from 14th to ninth in the Friday opener before landing the third starting position in the Saturday portion before crossing the stripe in sixth.

The most recent action included a three-day weekend through Iowa and Wisconsin with stops at West Burlington’s 34 Raceway on Thursday (June 17), the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway on Friday and then Wisconsin’s Beaver Dam Speedway.

Reutzel opened the triple with a run from ninth to sixth at 34 Raceway before setting fast time at Dubuque.  Reutzel battled into the lead in the early stages of the Dubuque feature and broke out to a two-second lead over the field in short order in search of a third series win of the year only to suffer a cut left rear tire under a caution ten laps into the race.  After quick repairs by the Roth crew, Reutzel rejoined the field at the tail and rallied through the pack to salvage a seventh-place finish and then matched that finish the next night by advancing a pair of positions at Beaver Dam.

Gaining momentum with each race, Reutzel and the Roth Motorsports No. 83 Sprint Car team set their sights on the big money this week in South Dakota and Minnesota.

2021 Quick Stats:  44 races, 3 wins, 12 top-fives, 33 top-tens.

Next Up:  World of Outlaws Sprint Cars at Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, SD) for the “Huset’s 50” on Monday and Tuesday and then the Jackson (MN) Motorplex for the “Jackson Nationals” on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Those unable to attend can watch all the action live on www.dirtvision.com.

Occurring during weekly competition, Madsen’s win commenced from the outside of row two, earning the quick jump to second before taking command from Brian Brown on lap two.

To make the matter even more special, Tony Stewat was in attendance and was a participant in the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) event that was held the same night; Stewart was victorious.

“The Knoxville track crew guys did a good job of getting the track turned around (after the SRX) and giving us a good track to race on,” said Madsen in Victory Lane. “I love these Ford engines. I’m just having a great time. This car with Ricky Warner wrenching it is such a fun car to drive. (Stewart) did remind me that a win was expected. 6/19 Portsmouth Raceway Park: 19th (23rd)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (June 21, 2021) - Perhaps the most grueling schedule in all of open wheel motorsports, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu not only entered his own Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Rowdy Energy/Curb Records/Lucas Oil Products/Self Made Racing/No. 24 sprint car for 39th running of Ohio Sprint Speedweek featuring the All Star Circuit of Champions, but also a second entry for the “Wild Child” Jac Haudenschild, who started his delayed Speedweek venture two events after Abreu at Wayne County Speedway. Together, the duo earned a combined four top-ten finishes, highlighted with Abreu’s runner-up result to Kyle Larson at Waynesfield Raceway Park on Wednesday, June 16.

Not going down without a fight, Abreu worked by Larson to lead 16 at Waynesfield, but the Elk Grove, California-native quickly returned the favor and powered back by Abreu on lap 17.

In addition, Abreu scored a tenth-place finish at Fremont Speedway on Saturday, June 12, and a sixth-place run at Wayne County Speedway on Monday, June 14.
Despite finishing 19th, Abreu led the majority of Portsmouth Raceway Park’s Speedweek ending Dean Knittel Memorial on Saturday, June 19, but a cut tire with a handful of circuits remaining forced Abreu to retire, no longer a contender for the $17,554 top prize.

Haudenschild's highlight of Ohio Sprint Speedweek occurred on Thursday, June 17, when the Wooster, Ohio-native and National Sprint Car Hall of Famer finished ninth from 16th at Muskingum County Speedway. In actuality, Haudenschild’s top result of the week would have occurred at Wayne County Speedway on Tuesday, but the Wild Child missed the scales following the feature and was scored last in the running order.

“It was an up and down weekend, for sure, but I can’t say enough about this Rowdy Energy team. Ohio Sprint Speedweek is no joke. It’s an intense week, but we love doing it. It’s circled on our calendar every year,” Rico Abreu said, still on the hunt for his first victory of 2021. “It was pretty incredible to see all of the fans who came out for every race. Ohio fans are great. They treat us like one of their own and that makes it easy to want to come race all of the time. We get to head to Pennsylvania and do it all over again starting Friday.”

From one Speedweek to the next, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing are tentatively scheduled to continue their 2021 campaign with the 31st running of Pennsylvania Sprint Speedweek, which activates Friday evening, June 25, at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. A staple in Posse Country, the ten-race/ten-day campaign will extend through Sunday, July 4, where it will conclude at Selinsgrove Speedway. For more information, please visit www.paspeedweeks.com.

2021 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Championship Standings: Fifth | 4470 points [142 points behind championship leader, Brad Sweet]

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (June 21, 2021) - Adding another chapter to an incredible open wheel career, Fargo, North Dakota’s Donny Schatz is now a 300-time winner with the Greatest Show On Dirt, third all-time, earning his milestone World of Outlaws triumph during action at the Dubuque Fairgrounds Speedway in Dubuque, Iowa, on Friday, June 18. The driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Carquest Auto Parts/Curb Records/Ford Performance/Sage Fruit/Digital Ally/Advance Auto Parts/Rush Truck Centers/Absolute Automation and Security/Hunt Brothers Pizza/J&J Auto Racing/No. 15 sprint car started third on the feature grid, earning the top spot on lap 13 when David Gravel and Aaron Reutzel, who were battling in the top-two spots, each found themselves with cut tires.

Despite earning the lead with some added help from Lady Lucky, Schatz’ remaining path to victory lane was far from a cake walk, as the ten-time World of Outlaws champion was forced to withstand late pressure from Kasey Kahne Racing’s James McFadden, as well as a green-white-checkered finish.
Other weekend results for Schatz included a ninth-place performance at 34 Raceway on June 17, followed by an eight-place outcome at Beaver Dam Raceway on June 19. In all, Schatz has amassed 24 top-tens in 33 feature starts.

“It hasn’t sunk in,” an emotional Schatz told Dave Rieff in victory lane. “I thought this was gonna happen about 15 times already this year. That’s the way racing is, though. Sometimes the best things come to those who wait. It seems to be that way in life, and that way on the race track.

“I’m really glad my father was here for this one. He doesn’t get to go to all of them anymore, but he was here tonight.

“There was something about the atmosphere here that made me feel like tonight was gonna be the night. It’s just a really awesome setting on the fairgrounds here. Something about this part of the country is unique to a kid that grew up in North Dakota.”

Donny Schatz and Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing will continue their 2021 World of Outlaws campaign with a mega stretch through the upper Midwest, set to invade Huset’s Speedway for the Huset’s 50 doubleheader on Monday and Tuesday, June 21-22, followed by a 90-minute jaunt due east to Jackson Motorplex for the three-day Jackson Nationals on Thursday through Saturday, June 24-26. The Huset’s 50 finale will award a $30,000 top prize, with the Jackson Nationals finale awarding a $50,000 top prize.

In addition, a $100,000 bonus is on the line for any competitor who sweeps both finales at the Huset’s 50 on June 22 and Jackson Nationals on June 26, giving one driver the chance to cash in for more than $180,000 in just a matter of days.

Skinner Claims Greg Hodnett Memorial Win at Riverside International Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 21, 2021) - A dominating performance earned Marshall Skinner the laurels during the Greg Hodnett Memorial Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway.

The veteran sprint car driver led every lap of all three races he ran to score the biggest victory of his career.

"This was my biggest win, by far, in 31 years of racing," he said. "Not only was it a prestigious race in memory of one of the best drivers, it was also the most money I've ever won when you include the lap money.

"This race was extra special for me because I was in the stands watching at Riverside when I was around 10- to 12-years-old when Greg won his first race there. I told his mom in Victory Lane Saturday night that I remember her spraying him with champagne the night he won his first race there.

"Making it all even better were all the people who congratulated me. There must've been a hundred people waiting for me at my trailer when I took my car back after the race. It was definitely a night I'll never forget."

Skinner raced to unchallenged wins in his heat race and the dash.

"I started front row in both races," he said. "I got the lead on the first lap and was able to pull away each time. My car felt really good. I won my heat by over half a lap and the dash by a straightaway."

Skinner started on the pole for the night's main event with Dale Howard alongside.

"I was able to beat Dale to the flag stand to get the lead right away," he said. "But the lapped traffic got pretty gnarly in a hurry. They started 25 cars so I was lapping cars after just a couple of laps.

"There was a red flag around Lap 17. They interviewed me and I told them I was either going to win the race or wad the car up and I truly meant it. I don't think I've ever been more determined to win a race. Dale threw a Hail Mary slider on me going into turn one on a restart, but I kept my foot in it and beat him off turn two. That was about the only challenge I had.

"I really appreciate (track owner) Clayton Allen for putting on this race and everything he does to make it special. He does it because Greg was his cousin. Clayton gave me a really cool trophy for winning. It's a picture of Greg's induction into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame from a couple weeks ago. It's a one-off trophy and there will never be another like it. That's pretty special."

After a four-year victory drought, Saturday marked Skinner's second win in as many weeks.

"It's a lot easier to run hard when you don't have to worry so much about the financial consequences," he said. "I've built up my racing account enough through my side work to where I don't have to worry so much about tearing the car up because I have the money to fix it. That makes a huge difference."

Skinner plans on returning to Riverside International Speedway this Saturday for his next race.
