FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Senoia Another Long Weekend for Roberts and BMS

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (Apr. 2) The Spring Nationals doubleheader at Senoia Raceway over the Easter weekend proved to be another long one as Blount Motorsports and driver Casey Roberts continue to search for the winning combination.

In the Friday night opener Roberts finished third in the second heat, started 15th and finished ninth. On Saturday night they had to take a provisional. Started 22nd and had passed their way to 11th just past the halfway point of the race. Running 11th he was caught up in a wreck, knocked the nose off the car and did other body damage. He was scored 20th in the final rundown.

“We were never really good anytime during the weekend,” said David Bryant. “We have been trying to find a good balance for the car and driver. So far we haven’t been successful in being able to find it.”

“The BMS team is a successful team and I have been a successful driver with my own team and we are both used to winning. It is not a question of if we are going to be successful, but when we will be successful,” said Roberts. “Meanwhile we are doing everything we can to figure it out.”

Another Spring Nationals doubleheader is coming up this weekend. On Friday night the action will be at Crossville Speedway and Saturday night at Tazewell Speedway.

Blount Motorsports enjoys sponsorship from Stowers (CAT) Machinery Corp., Arnold Trucking, Blount Excavating, Massey Electric, Tennessee RV, Turner Hydraulics, Ole Ben Franklin Motors, Food City, and The Wine and Spirits Cellar.

Rico Abreu scores top-ten at Silver Dollar Speedway

Dates: March 30th

Event: Weekly Program

Track: Silver Dollar Speedway (Chico, Calif.)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 7th (2nd)

Dates: March 31st

Series: Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards
Track: Placerville Speedway (Placerville, Calif.)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): Did Not Qualify

PLACERVILLE, Calif. (April 2, 2018) - For the first time in 2018, St. Helena, California's Rico Abreu spent an entire weekend racing in the 360c.i. ranks, participating in a pair of events in sunny, Northern California on Friday and Saturday, March 30-31. Abreu, pilot of the Rico Abreu Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Lucas Oil/Rhino Wipe/Alpinestars/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, highlighted his holiday weekend in the Golden State with a top-ten finish at Silver Dollar Speedway on Friday, March 30. The top-ten performance was Abreu's third of the season, as well as his second in the state of California.

In impressive fashion, Abreu's top-ten performance was accomplished the hard way, forced to race his way forward from the back of the field after driving off the edge of the racing surface. The former Gold Cup champion, who qualified for the Silver Dollar Speedway Weekly Racing Series program by winning his respective heat race, was chasing down the leader from the runner-up spot when the incident occurred.

“I don't think we were fast enough to win on Friday night, but it feels good to get a top-ten considering what we went through,” Rico Abreu explained. “That's a tough deal. Lucky for me, I have a great group of guys who work hard and give me the equipment necessary to rebound for a top-ten. It was great getting back to Silver Dollar Speedway. I can't wait to get back there and do it again.”

Unfortunately for Abreu, the top-ten streak did not continue on Saturday at Placerville Speedway during Sprint Car Challenge Tour presented by Elk Grove Ford and Abreu Vineyards competition. The Rico Abreu Racing entry was forced to race the evening's consolation B-main after not qualifying for the main event through his respective heat race. On the opening lap of the B-main, Abreu was involved in a red flag incident ending his night early.

“We'll put that one behind us,” Abreu continued. “That's racing sometimes. We've shown a lot of speed this year, but we're having some trouble finding momentum. I think once we lock down a little momentum, we'll be in great shape.”

Sides Aiming for Top Five During Arizona Desert Shootout at Arizona Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - BARTLETT, Tenn. (April 2, 2018) - Jason Sides is refreshed following a week off to celebrate the holiday weekend with his family.

"We had a great time together," he said. "I enjoy spending time with my family whenever we get the chance."

Sides will return to action this Saturday at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, Ariz., during the Arizona Desert Shootout with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series. It will mark his third visit to the track in the last three years.

"Last year when we were there it started out really good," he said. "There was a top and a bottom groove and later in the night the top was way around the top, but you could diamond off turns three and four. It made for a really good track."

Sides placed 11th at the oval during his debut in 2016 before he qualified third quickest, won a heat race, placed fifth in the dash and ended fifth in the A Main last year.

His goal for this weekend is to continue to progress at the bullring.

"A top five would be great," he said. "Getting qualified well is the biggest thing because that sets you up for the whole night."

Sides produced his best qualifying effort of the season during his most recent race, when he timed in third quickest.

Bruce Jr. Nets Sixth-Place Finish During Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout Finale

Inside Line Promotions - PARK CITY, Kan. (April 2, 2018) - Tony Bruce Jr. recorded his first top-10 finish of the season last Saturday during the finale of the 8th annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout at 81 Speedway.

Bruce Jr. and the Smith Family No. 86 team kicked off the NCRA Series doubleheader on Friday by placing sixth and fifth, respectively, in twin heat races.

"I hit a tractor tire on the start of the first heat and almost spun the car out," he said. "We fell almost back to last. For us to salvage a decent finish was big. We needed to capitalize on the second heat. We got a good late-race restart and that put us in a good position to make the A Main."

Bruce Jr. ranked 18th out of nearly 50 drivers and that locked him into the 18th starting position in the main event. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem sent Bruce Jr. to the pits early with a 20th-place result.

The event wrapped up on Saturday, when Bruce Jr. charged from ninth to fourth place in a heat race.

"We went from ninth to fourth and were another lap from getting third," he said. "We hit the setup almost perfect. I felt like my driving was where I needed to be and I made the correct moves. We were able to pass a lot of cars."

That locked Bruce Jr. into the seventh starting position for the A Main on a track that had already taken rubber, which made it difficult to pass.

"I got to fifth and then toward the end of the race I kept getting tighter and tighter," he said. "I pushed out of the rubber one lap and Sammy (Swindell) was able to get by us. However, it was a solid finish and a solid night for us.

"The track didn't lend itself for a lot of racing. There were conditions that were difficult with the track, but that comes back to us figuring out what we need to do to improve our chances. Friday didn't quite go as I would have planned, but we kept after it and we ended up with a good finish on Saturday."

Bruce Jr. will drive for Mike Hayashi this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, during the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.

Rilat Hungry for Victory Heading Into Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals

Inside Line Promotions - HEATH, Texas (April 2, 2018) - Travis Rilat is seeking redemption this weekend during a Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com doubleheader.

Rilat and BDS Motorsports nearly captured the season-opening race for the series before a mechanical problem relegated the team to the pits early. This weekend's Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals on Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, offers two chances to reach Victory Lane.

"We've got a great team put together here," Rilat said. "I think the speed we showed at Devil's Bowl is what we will have all season."

Rilat is searching for his first career win at Texas Motor Speedway, where he's been close in the past. He recorded a fourth-place result at the oval in 2012 and he was leading the main event in 2013 when a problem on the track relegated him to the pits early with a DNF. Rilat then charged from 18th to eighth place during a race in 2014.

"I haven't won, but we've been fast every time we've been there," he said. "We haven't had the luck we've needed, but I'm very confident going into the weekend. I know Bryan Sundby and the BDS Motorsports team will give me a top-notch car."

Rilat placed 11th during the opening night of the event last year before his finale ended one spot shy of a transfer into the main event.

"There's a lot of tough competition so we'll need to make sure we are on point every time we hit the track," he said. "If we do that I think we can contend for a win or two this weekend."

Swindell Posts Two Top Fives During Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout

Inside Line Promotions - PARK CITY, Kan. (April 2, 2018) - Sammy Swindell was on point last weekend at 81 Speedway, which hosted the 8th annual Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout.

Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains won three heat races and finished in the top five during both main events to give the team four top fives in five races this season.

"The weekend was really good," Swindell said. "They had a practice on Thursday for a couple of hours. We rolled out and everything was good. We made a couple of tweaks and learned a bit that helped us for Friday."

Swindell kicked off the NCRA Series event on Friday by winning two heat races, including the second race from eighth. That gave him the most event points out of the nearly 50 competitors and the pole for the A Main.

"We stayed with the same tires we'd run in Alabama (the week before) and practiced with," he said. "We thought they'd be fine. (Tim) Crawley's car had some newer tires. He was able to get around us on the start. We just chased him the whole time. We were faster, but it was a one-lane track that rubbered down around the bottom. I tried on the last lap to drive around him, but the groove was maybe a lane and a half wide and I was on the outside in the marbles so we had to settle for second."

Swindell's second-place finish tied his best result of the season.

The team continued to run strong on Saturday, when Swindell won a heat race from the pole. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row for the main event.

"It was a lot windier and they started racing earlier," he said. "The sun was out most of the day so the race track really didn't have a chance. It had more rubber down from the start of the race than the end of the night before. At least it made it a little wider so we were able to pass some cars whenever somebody would slip up. I got to fourth toward the end, but I went into turn one and must have caught a big gust of wind or something because the car didn't turn. That let Brandon Hanks get back by me."

Swindell hustled to a fifth-place result.

He and Rains will compete this Friday and Saturday at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, during the Tony Stewart Presents the Vankor Texas Sprint Car Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com.

"We're excited to have W&B Service Company, Griffin Fishing Charters and Lodge, and South Bay on our car this weekend in Texas," Swindell said. "It's a big race and we're looking forward to racing for a win or two."
