Ricky Thornton Jr. Bests Inaugural Rio Grande Waste Services Nippy 50 Finale
Collects $20,000 for Maquoketa Speedway Triumph

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (04/02/24) – Ricky Thornton Jr. pushed his 2024-win total to six on Saturday night with a $20,000 triumph in his SSI Motorsports / Coltman Farms / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana / Longhorn Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model during the finale of the inaugural Rio Grande Waste Services Nippy 50 presented by D&E Outside Services.

“We weren’t as good as we needed to be last night, so we changed cars,” said Thornton Jr. in Victory Lane on Saturday night. “It’s nice to know our backup car is just as good as our other stuff. I just felt really good all night.

"I really didn’t know where I needed to be on the racetrack. I was trying to gauge off the lapped cars. I’d catch one and drive away, and then the line would move back to the top, then the bottom. Overall, it was awesome. Thanks to the Hoker family and everyone who put this event together. It was a fun weekend.”

Ricky Thornton Jr. took the SSI Motorsports No. 20RT Super Late Model into battle at Maquoketa (Iowa) Speedway on Friday to compete in the opening round of the inaugural Rio Grande Waste Services Nippy 50 at the quarter-mile oval.

With 26 Late Models entered, Thornton backed up the seventh-fastest qualifying effort with a third-place finish in his heat race. Chasing the $10,000 top prize in the A-Main, Ricky recorded a seventh-place finish.

On Saturday, Ricky outran Bobby Pierce in his heat race to pick up the 10-lap victory. Fending off numerous challenges from Pierce in the feature, Thornton led flag-to-flag in the 50-lap affair to capture his sixth win of the season and the $20,000 payday.

He finished 2.045 seconds ahead of Ryan Gustin with Brandon Sheppard rounding out the podium.

Blackjack advances ten positions at 81 Speedway; Jason Johnson Classic ahead

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. (April 2, 2024) - Saturday’s visit to 81 Speedway in Wichita, Kansas, was complete with not only persistence, but perseverance, as “Blackjack” Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing were forced to turn a poor situation into a good one, climbing ten positions to do so before eventually concluding the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series appearance with a 14th-place score from row 12.

Brown, ace of the Casey’s, FVP, Andy's Frozen Custard, Impact Signs Awnings and Wraps, Mt. Dew Overdrive, Ditzfeld Transfer, No. 21 sprint car, was forced to start 24th after missing a transfer position in his respective heat race. The Higginsville, Missouri, native drove on to finish fourth in the evening’s Last Chance Showdown, ultimately qualifying for the 30-lap finale.

Although a double planned, Brown’s weekend was actually cut short, as World of Outlaws competition was canceled at Thunderbird Speedway in Muskogee, Oklahoma, on Friday, March 29 - windy conditions being the culprit.

“Just so very proud of my whole Casey’s | FVP team,” Brian Brown stated. “We were off to start the night, but we kept our heads down and made some great adjustments after the heat. We got the car where it needed to be for the A-Main.

“We were charging through there and got up to ninth from 24th. Unfortunately, I got greedy and tried to get closer to the big tractor tires on the inside of the track and hit one. That did damage to the drag link and front axle…we were lucky to finish 14th after the contact.”

ON DECK:
Brian Brown and Brian Brown Racing will continue their 2024 campaign with a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series appearance at Arrowhead Speedway in Colcord, Oklahoma, on Saturday, April 6. Saturday’s Jason Johnson Classic will award a $20,000 top prize.

Brandon Overton Rallies Late for $10,053 Spring Nationals Score
Volunteer Speedway’s Spring Thaw on Deck

EVANS, Ga. (04/02/24) – Utilizing a last-lap pass over racing veteran and fellow Georgian Dale McDowell, Brandon Overton stole the $10,053 victory and his third win of the season in I-75 Raceway’s Schaeffer Spring Nationals event on Friday night behind the wheel of Wells & Sons Motorsports No. 76 Convenient Lube / Muscle Factory/ Wells Motorsports Race Car / Clements Racing Engines - powered Super Late Model.

“Honestly, I was just gonna have to go wherever Dale didn’t,” Overton said in Victory Lane. “I caught him … and I knew I had my tires way too hot so I just kind of rode around and let ‘em cool down. Then I moved back around the top and it was sticking again so I was like, ‘All right, this is the last time. I gotta go get him’.”

The Evans, Ga., native capped off the doubleheader weekend with a second-place finish in Saturday’s Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway.

Joining a strong contingent of 38 Late Models at I-75 Raceway (Sweetwater, Tenn.) on Friday for the second stop of the 15-race Schaeffer’s Spring Nationals tour, Overton qualified fourth-fastest in his time trial group before placing second in his heat race.

Charging from the fourth row to the front in the feature, Brandon made a last-lap pass over pacesetter Dale McDowell to claim this third win of the season and 10th-career victory with the series.

He earned a $10,053 prize ahead of McDowell, Sam Seawright, Ricky Weiss, and Trey Mills.

For Saturday’s Lil’ Bill Corum Memorial at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tenn.), Brandon raced into the $21,000-to-win weekend finale with a convincing heat race win. Starting on the front row, Overton rolled to a consistent second-place finish in the 75-lapper, chasing Dale McDowell to the checkers.

Full results from the events are available at www.SouthernNationalsSeries.com .

Overton is set to return to action this weekend with the XR Super Series Spring Thaw at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tenn.). The doubleheader weekend opens on Friday with a $12,000-to-win program and concludes on Saturday with the $30,000-to-win finale.
