Southern All Stars Back in Action at Lavonia Speedway's Georgia State Championships
Lavonia, Georgia - The Southern All Star Racing Series will swing back into action this Saturday night, October 17th for the 15th Annual Georgia State Championships. Lavonia is expected to be an extremely pivotal event in the ever-tightening points chase. Currently Ronny Lee Hollingsworth of North Port, Alabama leads Crossville, Tennessee's Randy Weaver by a mere 78 point margin. Weaver may have the upper hand after racking up one previous Southern All Stars win at the Lavonia Speedway. The Cleveland Speedway Driving School Rookie of the Year title is also still up in the air with East Ridge, Tennessee driver Todd Morrow leading Tiger, Georgia's Ethan Hunter by just 88 markers. Hunter may hold the advantage among the rookies at Lavonia having raced there throughout his career.
"Lavonia could really change the whole complexion of the points deal. Both the guys that are playing catch up have had previous success at Lavonia and both of them enter this event with some momentum. Randy Weaver won a big show just recently so he is riding high. And Ethan Hunter has really improved his game and had pretty successful runs at Cleveland and Dixie last week. So this race could definitely be the wildcard. Of course Ronny Lee and Todd are both tough and adapt to tracks very well so I think it will definitely be interesting. It should be another great show." said Kelley Carlton General Manager of the Southern All Star Racing Series.
The strong regional and local contingent is also one to be reckoned with. Two drivers everyone will have on their watch list will be past Georgia State Champion Casey Roberts and Georgia ace Benji Cole. Both Georgians have visited Lavonia's victory lane many times. With most series, including Carolina Clash, Lucas Oil and World of Outlaws in an off week, some surprise visitors are always possible. One of those expected to be on hand is North Carolina teen sensation Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, North Carolina. Colby Cannon, the current SAS-East Rookie of the Year leader has also indicated he will be attending the Lavonia event. Several other area drivers such as Brent Dixon, Randy Nichols, Bruce Taylor and David McCoy should be in attendence as well.
The Series is also encouraging all fans to wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. "Many folks throughout the racing family have been touched by this dreadful disease in some way. You either know someone or are related to someone who has suffered through this disease. My mother is a breast cancer survivor so I know how far reaching it truly is. We want to take a chance to pay tribute to those that have survived and pay respects to those who have lost their battles. I can't think of a better way to show support and recognition than to have a sea of pink in those grandstands. We will have some decals for our drivers to put on their car and our victory lane also lends to awareness of this dreaded disease. We hope we can get a lot of folks to participate. We are going to have some give-aways for those that are wearing pink." Carlton added.
The 15th Annual Georgia State Championship will be a 50 lap / $5000 to win event and will also feature big events for the Southeastern Limited Sportsman Series as well as a $2000 to win Fastrak WEEKLY Crate Event.
