Hudson O’Neal Second in Smoky Mountain Speedway LOLMDS Action
17th annual Big River Steel Firecracker 100 Up Next

SHINNSTON, W.Va. (06/19/23) – Hudson O’Neal notched a runner-up finish in Saturday night’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) Mountain Moonshine Classic at Smoky Mountain Speedway with his Rocket1 Racing / Valvoline / Seubert Calf Ranches No. 1 Ace Metal Works / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model.

The Indiana racer motored forward from the seventh-starting position to achieve his second-place finishing position.

“It really was a good night. You know we just got behind yesterday qualifying and we had to start farther back in one of those preliminary features. We were just able to salvage our way up through every race. We were able to get a little better and a little better. We had a really good race car,” O’Neal shared. “I just used my stuff up so hard around that top trying to get to second and by the time I got to second Ricky was driving off and I was running out of steam. So, we are happy to finish second from where we started in seventh. I think this track turned out to be way better than anyone thought it was going to be. We raced all over it for 40 or 50 laps. They can’t hang their head about that. They did a good job.”

Rocket1 Racing and Hudson O’Neal were one of 44 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) teams converged at the newly redesigned Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Friday afternoon for the opening round of the two-day Mountain Moonshine Classic.

After officials made the decision to axe heat races and set the grid for both preliminary features based on time trials, O’Neal laid down the 10th-fastest lap in his 22-car group. Chasing a $5,000 payday in his prelim, Hudson advanced forward six spots to register a fourth-place finish.

Starting from the pole of his heat race on Saturday, Hudson raced his way into the $50,000-to-win Mountain Moonshine Classic with a flag-to-flag victory. Earning the seventh-starting position, O’Neal was up to third by lap 25 but was never able to reel in eventual race-winner Ricky Thornton Jr. He went onto place second in the 60-lapper, with Chris Ferguson, Jonathan Davenport, and Kyle Strickler completing the Top-5 finishers.

Hudson sits 185 points back in second in the latest LOLMDS point standings.

The team continues their pursuit of the 2023 LOLMDS title this weekend with a trip to Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pa.) for the 17th annual Big River Steel Firecracker 100. The weekend includes twin $5,000-to-win programs on both Thursday and Friday followed by a $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

While O’Neal entered his first-career Firecracker 100 in 2022 with a 12th-place finish, Rocket1 Racing has been a regular contender in the mega event. They claimed the 2013 event victory with driver, Josh Richards.

Ricky Thornton Jr. Collects $50,000 in Mountain Moonshine Classic
Carries Hot Hand into Big River Steel Firecracker 100 Weekend

MARTINSVILLE, Ind. (06/19/23) – Ricky Thornton Jr. hit the ground running with a prelim win on Friday night at Smoky Mountain Speedway and then went back to Victory Lane on Saturday night to the tune of $50,000 in the finale of the Mountain Moonshine Classic aboard his SSI Motorsports / Hoker Trucking No. 20RT Dyno One Inc. / Excel Floor Covering / Sub-Surface of Indiana/ Longhorn Chassis/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

With the winning performance he expanded his advantage atop the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) standings.

"I wish my wife, my kids were here," Thornton Jr. said in Victory Lane, already thinking of Lucas Oil's next $50,000 payday seven days later at Lernerville Speedway's Firecracker 100 in Sarver, Pa. "Hopefully we can get it again next week with them here.

"I'm glad they went out and worked (the track surface) there before the feature. It made it so you could run the top and both corners there for a while. Fergy (Chris Ferguson) got out in front and, that's kind of the downside of leading here — really leading anywhere, you can't move around — where I was able to move around and see (which line) was better or worse," Thornton Jr. continuedin Victory Lane. “I was able to get by him. Luckily no lapped cars were in the way or anything like that. So pretty cool.

“I'm just lucky enough to hold the steering wheel, because Anthony Burroughs, Christopher Jayko, D.J. Williams, and this whole team give me an amazing car every single night."

SSI Motorsports and Ricky Thornton Jr. rolled into Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tenn.) on Friday evening as the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned field competed in a pair of prelims for the two-day Mountain Moonshine Classic.

With recent rain in the area creating challenging track conditions, officials set the grid for the two features based on time trial results. Following the second-fastest qualifying effort in his group, Ricky outran overall fast-qualifier Kyle Strickler in his 25-lap prelim to claim his 14th win of the season. He stole the lead from Strickler on lap 18 and never looked back, en route to the $5,000 payday.

Locked into the six-car dash on Saturday, Thornton's fourth-place finish positioned him on the second row for the Mountain Moonshine Classic finale. With fellow prelim winner Chris Ferguson setting the pace early, Ricky found his line in the middle of the track as he overtook Ferguson for the top spot on lap 36.

Leading the remainder of the 60-lapper, Thornton bagged his second win in as many nights and a $50,000 prize. He finished 6.533 seconds ahead of Hudson O'Neal with Ferguson, Jonathan Davenport, and Kyle Strickler completing the top-five finishers in Thornton's 13th-career LOLMDS triumph.

Ricky holds a 185-point advantage over Hudson O'Neal atop the latest LOLMDS point standings.

Ricky now has another $50,000 victory in his crosshairs as he prepares to invade Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pa.) this weekend – June 22-24 – for the 17th annual Big River Steel Firecracker 100. The weekend opens with twin $5,000-to-win programs on Thursday and Friday followed by a $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

Gregg Satterlee Caps AMS with $6,300 Selinsgrove Triumph
17th annual Firecracker 100 Awaits at Lernerville

INDIANA, Pa. (06/19/23) – Gregg Satterlee banked his second Appalachian Mountain Speedweek victory of the miniseries on Sunday evening at Pennsylvania’s Selinsgrove Speedway. His fourth win of the year was claimed with his Satterlee Motorsports No. 22 Keyser Manufacturing / Classic Ink / XR1 Rocket Chassis / Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.

He finished second in the final Appalachian Mountain Speedweek point standings.

“Apart from the bad luck there at Path Valley Speedway, we had a great Appalachian Mountain Speedweek and came away with two wins and were in contention pretty much every night,” Satterlee shared. “We’re looking forward to getting back to Lernerville (Speedway) this weekend. I always enjoy racing there, and we’ve already won one race there this year, so hopefully our good fortune will continue.”

The fourth round of the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek drew Gregg Satterlee and 42 other Super Late Model competitors to Path Valley Speedway (Spring Run, Pa.) on Tuesday afternoon for the $4,000-to-win program.

After contact on the opening lap of his heat race knocked him from contention, Satterlee rallied in the B-Main with a 10th-to-4th showing but missed a transfer spot by one position.

For another $4,000-to-win program on Thursday at Bedford (Pa.) Speedway, Gregg outran Matt Cosner in his heat race to pick up the eight-lap victory. Inching forward four spots in the 35-lap feature, Satterlee reeled in a fifth-place finish, which came behind Tyler Emory, Michael Norris, Jeff Rine, and Kyle Lee.

With Friday’s doubleheader finale at Bedford rained out, Satterlee unloaded his Satterlee Motorsports No. 22 Super Late Model on Saturday afternoon at Lincoln Speedway (Lincoln, Pa.) where he locked his spot into the dash with the fastest qualifying lap in his 21-car group. Following a fourth-place finish, Gregg crossed the line sixth in the feature, but was later elevated to fifth after the race-winner was disqualified for an illegal suspension part.

In a field of 34 cars on Sunday evening at Selinsgrove Speedway (Selinsgrove, Pa.), Gregg outran fast-qualifier Tyler Emory in the dash to earn the pole for the Appalachian Mountain Speedweek finale. Regaining the lead from Emory on lap 28 of the feature, Satterlee soared to his fourth win of the season and a $6,300 triumph.

He took the checkers 1.478 seconds ahead of Emory with Rick Eckert, Eddie Carrier Jr., and Dylan Yoder rounding out the Top 5.

Gregg finished second in the final Appalachian Mountain Speedweek point standings.

Next on tap for the team is a trip to Lernerville Speedway (Sarver, Pa.) for the 2023 edition of the Big River Steel Firecracker 100. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) weekend includes twin $5,000-to-win programs on Thursday and Friday followed by a $50,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

Bayston consistent through Beaver Dam double; Massive weekend in South Dakota on deck

2023 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Standings: 8th | 3844 points

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

CARLISLE, Pa. (June 19, 2023) - Consistency is always the key, and for Spencer Bayston and CJB Motorsports, consistency was certainly found during their recent two-day stay in the Badger State, capping the annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, with back-to-back top-ten finishes, highlighting each of which with a sixth-place score in the $20,000-to-win finale on Saturday, June 17.

Bayston started second on Saturday’s A-Main lineup, battling for the top spot early before fading to just outside of the top five.

Just one night prior in the Jim Boyd Memorial opener, Bayston finished tenth, maintaining his place within the top-ten after starting ninth on the grid.

With all results considered, Bayston, who calls Lebanon, Indiana, home, remains eighth in the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series championship standings, padded by 18 top-ten finishes to date, three of which occurring inside the top-five.

Although still hunting for his first victory of the season, the top-ten sweep gives Bayston a perfect momentum shift, eager to use his consistency in the upcoming blockbuster at Huset’s Speedway.

“I’m very happy with our overall performances this weekend at Beaver Dam. I feel like we’re making massive strides toward a sound package that will assure great results night in and night out,” Bayston said. “Our qualifying has improved and our race package was strong both nights. Barry, Troy, Aydin, and Erik continue to work hard and I’m proud of their efforts. We have a massive weekend ahead and we’re more than excited to get things underway at Huset’s Speedway.”

TKS Motorsports and Chase Randall find podium in Knoxville Raceway’s Border Battle

By Fully Injected Motorsports:

MITCHELLVILLE, Ohio (June 19, 2023) - TKS Motorsports and newly hired gun, Chase Randall, came out swinging during the recent weekend, not only activating their full-time arrangement with a visit to Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minnesota, on Friday, June 16, but flanking that stop with a return trip to the Sprint Car Capital of the World, Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, on Saturday, June 17. Although short of victory, the weekend was not short of overall accomplishment, highlighting the Border Battle pair with a podium performance at Iowa’s historic Knoxville Raceway.

Randall, full-time ace of the Albaugh - Your Alternative, Iowa Barnstormers, Des Moines Industrial Products, deWit Construction, Jersey Freeze Ice Cream, Freedom Concrete Pumping, No. 2KS sprint car, finished third in his podium appearance at Knoxville, tussling for the top spot early before settling into his finishing position. The Waco, Texas, native kicked off the evening program with the third-fastest time of 32 entries, ultimately qualifying for main event action with a fifth-place score in his respective heat race.

Randall and TKS Motorsports kicked off the weekend with a 14th-place score in Friday’s visit to Jackson Motorplex. The team did not compete in Sunday’s Border Battle finale at Huset’s Speedway, as Randall had prior commitments with his family operation, Randall Motorsports.

“We’re proud of Chase and what he was able to accomplish in his first, full weekend out with our team,” Troy Renfro, owner of TKS Motorsports, said. “We’ll do whatever we can to learn more and more about each other. There’s a pretty big race at Knoxville in mid-August. We hope to make some noise that weekend.”

ON DECK:
TKS Motorsports and Chase Randall will take a weekend off allowing Randall to fulfill High Bank Nationals duties aboard his own Randall Motorsports No. 9.
