Brandon Overton Takes Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals Series Victory at Crossville Speedway

By Michael Despain

CROSSVILLE, TN – July 27, 2017 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV would return to action after a couple of days off at Crossville Speedway in Crossville, TN on Thursday evening and series points leader Brandon Overton would lead all thirty-five circuits on his way to the $3,500 payday.

The win would be Overton’s third of the season with the series and would again come behind the wheel of the Crossfit Overton/A.F. Stone Professional Medical Services/Mission Transport/Stone Land Clearing sponsored #116 Longhorn by Weaver Chassis powered by an Andy Durham Race Engine.

Brandon Overton would take the lead at the start of the thirty-five lap main event, while Craig Vosbergen and Donald McIntosh would give chase. McInitosh would roll past Vosbergen on lap two with a slidejob pass in turn four, while Shanon Buckingham would claim the third position from Vosbergen on lap four. With Overton setting a torrid pace out front, McIntosh would hold down the second position, with Buckingham, Vosbergen, and Ben Nicastri running third through fifth with five laps complete. Overton would continue to stretch his lead over the field and would start the process of working lapped traffic on lap eleven. McIntosh would race hard in the second position, while Vosbergen would work past Buckingham for third on lap eighteen, while Nicastri would take fourth from Buckingham on lap twenty.

With Overton motoring away from the field, McIntosh and Vosbergen would begin to battle for the second position, while Buckingham would pressure Nicastri for the fourth spot. Buckingham would finally work his way back around Nicastri for the fourth position on lap thirty-two, but it would be Overton seeing the checkered flag first, with McIntosh racing hard and holding off Vosbergen for second, while Buckingham and Nicastri completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Matt Henderson, Billy Ogle, Jr., Ryan King, Heath Hindman, and Kenny Collins.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuel and Tennessee RV next event will be Friday July 28 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN, paying $5,300 to win.
