Shreveport, Louisiana (03/20/17) – Garrett Alberson went into battle over the weekend in Louisiana and Arkansas and came away with a pair of runner-up finishes to show for his efforts in the Childress Racing #F5 Black Diamond Chassis/ Durham Racing Engine Super Late Model

Behind the wheel of the Childress Racing #F5 Super Late Model, Garrett Alberson invaded Ark-La-Tex Speedway (Vivian, Louisiana) on Friday night for the rescheduled Pelican 50. In a field of 25 cars, Alberson locked his spot into the $5,000-to-win A-Main with a runner-up finish behind Tyler Erb in his heat race.

Rolling off 5th, Alberson worked his way up to challenge the leader early in the 50-lapper. Battling for the top spot in the closing laps, Garrett jumped into the lead on the white flag lap, but his pass coming to the checkers was nullified by a caution. On Saturday Garrett stopped at Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi) for the Mississippi State Championship Challenge Series (MSCCS) season-opener. Timing in fifth fastest in a field of 29 Super Late Models, Alberson earned the 5th-starting spot for the $2,500-to-win feature. Bringing home another podium finish, Garrett made a late-race charge for the lead in the final laps but came up short, finishing 2nd behind Billy Moyer Jr. Hunter Rasdon, and B.J. Robinson with Kyle Beard rounding out the Top 5.

“I really didn’t need that caution coming to the first checkered on Friday night at Ark-La-Tex, but it is what it is,” said Alberson. “It was a really solid weekend for our team. I have to thank the Childress family for this great opportunity to drive this car. We’ve got a really good car this season, and I couldn’t be more excited.”

Devin Dixon Impresses in Super Late Model Debut

Ocala, Florida (03/20/17) – After experiencing more than their fair share of bad luck to start the 2017 season, Devin Dixon and Big Frog Motorsports enjoyed a great weekend with their #58 Dave’s Towing/Rocket XR1 Late Model.

“We came away with a pair of Top-5 finishes, with one of them coming in my first-ever Super Late Model start on Friday night, so yeah, we were really pleased with the results from the weekend,” noted Dixon. “We’ve just had so many random part’s failures and situations of bad luck to start the year, that it felt really good to finally get to finish two races and show just how strong our team is. Hopefully this shows our luck is finally pointed back in the right direction.”

The Big Frog Motorsports team entered the Southern All Stars Series sanctioned program on Friday night at Southern Raceway (Milton, Florida) with Devin Dixon piloting the team’s XR1 Rocket Chassis #58 Super Late Model. With 26 cars registered for the opening night of the Bash at the Beach, Dixon locked his spot into the $4,000-to-win A-Main with a 3rd-place finish in his heat. Starting in 5th for the feature, Devin jumped up one position scoring a 4th-place finish behind Casey Roberts, Ryan Crane, and Joseph Joiner with Bo Shirley coming in 5th.

The strong run against a talented field of open-engine competitors came despite the team being underpowered with a CT 525 engine.

On Saturday the team traveled north to 411 Motor Speedway (Seymour, Tennessee) for the opening night of the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series 2017 campaign. Laying down the fifth-fastest time in a field of 27 cars, Dixon earned the 5th-starting position for the feature. With $3,000 on the line, Devin worked his way into a podium position in the 50-lapper, notching a 2nd-place finish behind Cory Hedgecock with Brandon Williams, Ross Martin, and Zach Pilcher completing the Top-5 finishers.

Complete results can be found at www.SASDirt.com and www.NeSmithRacing.com .

Swindell Salvages Top 10 During Spring Nationals at Devil's Bowl Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (March 20, 2017) - Sammy Swindell wrapped up the 44th annual Spring Nationals with a seventh-place result last Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

"We were pretty fortunate to finish," he said. "After the race we found out we broke a bolt on the steering arm."

It was that type of weekend for Swindell and car owner A.G. Rains, who began the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader on Friday with a bit of bad luck in a heat race.

"I thought I had a good run on a guy and was beside him," Swindell said. "The track is open going into turn three and then it gets tighter and tighter. We didn't have enough room to get through there and it clipped the tire. When it did it bent the axle."

Swindell, who was battling for second place on the opening lap, was unable to finish the heat race and the team elected not to start a B Main toward the back.

The event concluded on Saturday when Swindell placed second in both a heat race and a qualifier.

"We had a little problem getting the car to accelerate on the starts and we'd get beat into the first corner," he said. "We went back and looked at everything and made some changes for the A Main and the car was really good."

Swindell started the main event on the inside of the sixth row and he maneuvered into the top five when a caution came out with only a handful of laps remaining.

"I had just got by Seth Bergman for fourth when the caution came out so that put me back to fifth," he said. "However, with 10 laps to go we had started to have a little problem with the car going where I wanted it to go. With four laps to go we had that yellow and I slowed down where I could turn the steering wheel a half a turn and it wouldn't do anything. I was a little nervous on the restart. I slipped up getting into turn one and was pretty much hanging on at the end. If we hadn't had the issues I think we had a chance to run in the top three."

Swindell salvaged a seventh-place finish.

He and Rains have a busy schedule during the next month. They will compete this Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA and Sunday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Swindell said the team will then race with the ASCS National Tour on April 7-8 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas, and on April 15 at Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, Mo.

Bergman Captures Two Top Fives at Spring Nationals to Kick Off Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Season

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (March 20, 2017) - Seth Bergman produced a pair of strong results last weekend during the 44th annual Spring Nationals to start the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour campaign on the right foot.

Bergman earned a top-five finish each night at Devil's Bowl Speedway during the season-opening ASCS National Tour event. He has now scored at least one top five at the track for the past five years.

"We had a great car all weekend and moved forward almost every time we were on the track," he said. "Any time you can come away from a weekend with two top fives when there are almost 50 drivers racing it's a good performance."

Bergman opened the event on Friday by advancing from third to second place in both his heat race and qualifier. That ranked him fifth in overall points and locked into the fifth starting position for the main event.

"The track was one lane around the top and since we started on the bottom we didn't get a great start," he said. "I lost a bit there, but we were able to rally back into fifth and were all over John Carney II for fourth until the checkered flag."

Bergman finished fifth, which was only one spot shy of locking into Saturday's feature redraw.

He returned to the track on Saturday and picked up where he left off. Bergman charged from eighth to second place in a heat race and he maneuvered from sixth to second place in a qualifier. That gave him the most combined points and lined him up fifth overall - behind the four locked-in drivers from Friday.

"The top was the best place to start again and then the bottom came in for a little in turns one and two," he said. "There were some good battles all race long so it was great to come away with another top five."

Bergman posted a fourth-place finish. He was one of only four drivers to garner a top-five result each night.

The team returns to action Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA and Sunday at Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Mo., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.

Kulhanek Closes Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals With Top-10 Result

Inside Line Promotions - MESQUITE, Texas (March 20, 2017) - Ray Allen Kulhanek capped the 44th annual Spring Nationals with a top-10 finish last Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

"I had a lot of speed all weekend long, which was a good change of pace at Devil's Bowl," he said. "It seems like we're behind the eight ball every time we go there, but last weekend every time we hit the track we were going forward. That's probably what I was the happiest about."

The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour doubleheader began on Friday when Kulhanek, who is teaming up with Marvin and Peggy Pearson this season, maneuvered from fourth to second place in a heat race before advancing from fifth to fourth place in a qualifier. That lined him up on the inside of the sixth row for the main event.

"The bottom was pretty much shot so the top was dominant," he said. "I got freight trained on the start, but I started to make my way back up. I think we were back to 11th when I started getting some water in my face. I looked at the temperature gauge and it wasn't hot so I thought it was the guy in front of me. I ran up on him into turn one. I dove to the bottom to see if it was my car and sure enough I was still getting sprayed with water so I pulled off. That was disappointing because I felt like we could have been in the top 10 easily. It turns out the cap on the radiator was gone. In all the years I've raced I've never had that happen."

Kulhanek was credited with a 19th-place result.

The event concluded on Saturday when Kulhanek charged from seventh to third place in a heat race and from sixth to fourth place in a qualifier. That lined him up on the inside of the fifth row.

"We were really, really good the whole night," he said. "I took off decent and started making mistakes and fell back as far as 14th. We had a really long green-flag run and I pulled the wing back and started getting a little faster. We had a caution with five laps to go and that really helped me. We went from 12th to eighth after that. I hit the bottom in turns one and two, ran beside them down the backstretch and slid them in turns three and four. We were definitely coming there at the end of the race."

Kulhanek rebounded to post an eighth-place finish.

"We completed the goal we really wanted to," he said. "It was a good start to the season for myself. We'll play it by ear the rest of the season and hit what races we can. I want to thank Marvin and Peggy Pearson for their support as well as all my sponsors. It felt great to get back in the car again."

Kulhanek will return to action this Saturday at Battleground Speedway in Highlands, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
