The defending and two-time USCS National Champion Morgan Turpen of Cordova, TN
finished third and Andy McElhannon of Hernando, MS took the fourth spot.  Eric Riggins Jr. of
Charlotte, NC was fifth, and sixth-place went to Matt Linder of Hoschton, GA.  The 2016 USCS Rookie of the Year, Danny Sams III of Englewood, FL was seventh and Garrett Green of Valrico, FL started 20th
and finished eighth to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger of the Race Award.  Mallett
finished ninth and Lance Moss of Cherryville, NC rounded out the top ten.

In preliminary action, Mallett won the six-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and the three eight
lap heat races were won by Turpen in the Engler Machine and Tool first heat, Linder in the Brown
and Miller Racing Solutions second heat, and Hagar in the Schoenfeld Headers third heat.

In RockAuto.com USCS 600 Mini Sprint action, Brandon Taylor of Cumming, GA won the
15-lap A-Main Race.  Taylor took the lead from Bobby Zaiontz of Columbus, MS on lap 12, and led
the final four laps of the event.  Zaiontz finished second and third went to Conner Morrell of
Palmetto, FL.

A.J. Parrish of Jacksonville, FL took the fourth spot and Jim Kradel of Navarre, FL was
fifth.  Jim McNulty of Navarre, FL finished sixth and Gregg Jones of Navarre, FL took the seventh

Bobby Zaiontz took over the lead for the restart followed by Taylor, Morrell, Parrish and Kradel.
Taylor stayed with Zaiontz until lap 12 when Taylor was able to race under the two-time Champand  grab the lead.

Just when the seventeen-year-old Taylor could begin to taste the fruits of victory, the caution flag came out on lap 14 when McNulty stalled on the front straightaway.  Taylor was able to stay out front in the green, white, checkered sequence of laps to the end of the race.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

HAGAR HUSTLES TO BOYD’S SPEEDWAY USCS WIN

August 18, 2017

RINGGOLD, GA – The 2013 USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour National Champion Derek Hagar of Marion, AR drove his DHR Chassis Parts and Shocks Special to his fourth United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour Presented by K&N Filters win of the season Friday night by leading all 30 laps of the A-Main at Boyd’s Speedway.

Hagar started on the outside of the front row, and after a side-by-side battle on the opening tour with USCS point leader Jordon Mallett of Greenbrier, AR, took the lead coming off the fourth turn on the high side.  Hagar then pulled away using multiple grooves around the 3/8-mile clay oval.

“The track was great tonight and we could really move around on it,” Hagar said.  “There wasn’t much cushion on the high side, but we had our car set up well, and we could run the middle and the bottom.  We could go where ever we needed to go to get around the lapped cars.”

The 11-time USCS National Champion Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN finished second, and tried to make a late-race charge on Hagar, but ran out of laps.  Mallett ended up in the third spot, and the defending and two-time USCS National Champion Morgan Turpen of Cordova, TN was fourth.  Andy McElhannon of Hernando, MS finished fifth.

Sixth went to Brandon Taylor of Cumming, GA, and Eric Riggins Jr. of Charlotte, NC earned the K&N Filters Pole Award, but spun out before the green flag came out and had to start at the rear of the 23-car field.  Riggins rallied to finish seventh 30 laps later.

The 2016 USCS Rookie of the Year Danny Sams III of Englewood, FL took the eighth spot, and Joey Schmidt of Ellisville MS was ninth.  Aubrey Black of Lookout Mountain, GA started 20th and rounded out the top ten to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger of the Race Award.

In preliminary action, Turpen won the six-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and the three eight lap heat races were won by Mallett in the Engler Machine and Tool first heat, Riggins in the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions second heat, and Hagar in the Schoenfeld Headers third heat.

Hagar led the first lap followed by Mallett, Matt Linder of Hoschton, GA, Turpen and Gray.  Bob Auld of Largo, FL brought out the first of four caution flags on lap six with a spin in turn four.  When the field went back to green flag action, Hagar pulled away from Mallett, while Gray went to the inside to challenge his teammate Turpen for the fourth spot.

Gray was able drive underneath Turpen coming off the fourth turn on lap seven.  By lap ten, Hagar began to encounter the cars on the tail of the lead lap with a half-straightaway lead on Mallett.  The lead was erased on lap 11 when Don Warren of Clarksville, TN spun in turn two to light up the caution bulb.

The top ten for the restart at the one-third mark of the race had Hagar in the lead followed by Mallett, Linder, Gray, Turpen, Sams, McElhannon, Joe Larkin of Suwanee, GA, Schmidt, and Jake McLain of Matthews, NC.  When the field went back to green flag action, Taylor stepped to the outside and passed Sams for sixth.

Turpen led a three-car battle for fifth with Taylor, Sams and McElhannon.  McLain lost his right side header in turn two on lap 14 to bring out the caution flag, but not before it was run over by Jeff Oliver of Pendergrass, GA.  Both cars were done for the evening.  Hagar led Mallett, Linder, Gray, Turpen, Taylor, McElhannon, Sams, Larkin, and Schmidt down for the restart.

The battle for the fifth spot resumed among Turpen, Taylor, McElhannon and Sams.  McElhannon was able to drive under Taylor for the sixth spot coming off the fourth turn on lap 15.  The final caution flag came out on lap 17 when Linder stalled on the front straightaway while running third, and he was out for the evening.

That reshuffled the top ten as Hagar led Mallett, Gray, Turpen, Taylor, McElhannon, Riggins, Larkin, Sams, and Schmidt down for the restart.  McElhannon got by Taylor on the restart, while Hagar pulled away from Mallett, and Gray challenged him for the second spot.

Hagar got into lapped traffic on lap 21 with almost a full straightaway lead on Mallett.  Gray was able to get by Mallett for second on lap 22.  Gray had the fastest car on the track in the final eight laps of the race, but he couldn’t catch Hagar to challenge for the lead.

In RockAuto.com USCS 600 Mini Sprint action, Bobby Zaiontz of Columbus, MS drove to a wire-to-wire win in the 15-lap main event.  Pulling double-duty on Friday night, Brandon Taylor of Cumming, GA took the second spot, and Conner Morrell of Palmetto, FL finished third.  Gregg Jones of Navarre, FL was fourth and fifth went to Tommy Thompson of Ten Mile, TN.

Jim Kradel of Navarre, FL finished sixth, and Jim McNulty of Navarre, FL took the seventh spot.  A.J. Parrish of Jacksonville, FL started tenth and finished eighth to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger Award.  Ninth went to Alex Lyles of Arlington, TN, and Aubrey Black II of Trenton, GA rounded out the top ten.

In preliminary action, Jones won the five-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash, and the eight-lap Engler Machine and Tool Heat Race was won by Taylor, which earned him the K&N Filters Pole Award for the 15-lap A-Main.

Zaiontz took the lead at the start of the race from his outside front row starting spot followed by Taylor, Jones, Morrell, and McNulty.  On lap two, Morrell drove under Jones in turn two to claim the third spot.  The only caution flag of the race came out on lap three when Lyles spun in turn two.

The restart saw Zaiontz leading Taylor, Morrell, Jones and McNulty.  Kradel was able to get by McNulty for the fifth spot on the restart.  Thompson then got up on the wheel, driving by Kradel and into the top five on lap six.  Zaiontz then went on unchallenged to the checkered flag.

The USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour and the RockAuto.com 600 Mini Sprints will now travel to Senoia Speedway in Senoia, GA to race on Saturday night.
