FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

DALE HOWARD SURVIVES LATE RACE CRASH TO WIN RIVERSIDE USCS FALL NATIONALS MAIN EVENT #1 ON FRIDAY NIGHT
7

WEST MEMPHIS, AR  - October 20, 2017 - Dale Howard of Byhalia, MS survived a late race crash to come back and win the first night of the USCS Fall Nationals for the United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour Presented By K&N Filters on Friday night at Riverside International Speedway.  Howard took the lead on lap 24 of the 25 lap A-Main event after flirting with disaster.

For the first 23 laps of the A-Main, Howard chased early race leader Brandon Hanks of Burlison, TN, with Ernie Ainsworth of Bartlett, TN close behind the top two in the third spot.  When Hanks got bogged down in heavy lapped traffic on lap 24, Howard went to the high groove, and Ainsworth dove for the inside in turn one.

The lead trio was three-wide in turn two and hard racing caused contact being made by all three drivers.  Hanks was the meat in the Sprint Car sandwich, as Howard hooked him.  Hanks spun to the top of the track, hit the outside concrete retaining wall, and flipped on his side to bring out the red flag.  Hanks was O.K., but he was done for the night, and gave the lead to Howard for the restart.

Howard pilled away from Ainsworth when the green flag came out, followed by the white flag, and then the checkered flag on the 25th tour.  Marshall Skinner of Marion, AR passed Ainsworth for second in the green, white, checkered dash to the finish, and Ainsworth has to settle for third. USCS point leader Jordon Mallett of Greenbrier, AR was fourth, and fifth went to Andy McElhannon of Hernando, MS.

Howard Moore of Memphis, TN started 17th and finished sixth to earn the Wilwood Disc Brakes Hard Charger of the Race Award.  National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Inductee Danny Smith of Chillicothe, OH took the seventh spot and Chad Jones of Germantown, TN was eighth.  The ninth spot went to Dewayne White of Byhalia, MS and Travis Senter of Osceola, AR rounded out the top ten.

In preliminary action, Howard also won the six-lap Hoosier Race Tire Speed Dash and the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions second eight-lap Heat Race.  Ainsworth won the Engler Machine and Tool first eight-lap heat race and the Schoenfeld Headers third eight-lap heat race was won by the defending and two-time USCS National Champion Morgan Turpen of Cordova, TN.  Brad Bowden of Hernando, MS rallied from the 12th starting spot to win the 15-lap B-Main Race.

The 2017 Riverside International Speedway Open Wheel Modified Champion Brandon Poppenheimer of Nesbit, MS led wire-to-wire to win the 25-lap K&N Filters USCS Outlaw Modified Main Event.  J.C. Waller of Arlington, TN was second and Lucas Lee of Paris, TN rallied from the 13th starting spot to finish third.  The fourth spot went to Craig Vaughn of Olive Branch, MS, and Donald Null of Brighton, TN took the fifth spot.

Charles Smith of Atoka, TN was sixth, Bobby Allen of Mason, TN finished seventh, Paul Robinson of Tupelo, MS took the eighth spot, ninth went to Nathan Brown of Marion, AR, and Dillon Knight of Burlison, TN rounded out the top ten.  In preliminary action, Poppenheimer won the Engler Machine and Tool first eight lap Heat Race winner, and Waller won the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions second eight lap heat race.

In www.RockAuto.com USCS Mini Sprint action on Friday night, Kyle Amerson of Matthews, AL took the lead with five laps to go and won the 20-lap main event.  Travis Senter of Osceola, AR finished second and third went to Holden Anderson of Montgomery, TX.  Brandon Taylor of Cumming, GA took the fourth spot and Steven Parker of West Memphis, AR was fifth.

Conner Morrell of Palmetto, FL finished sixth, and Clayton Robertson of Osceola, AR was seventh.  The eighth spot went to Leroy Carley of Cunningham, TN and Kyle Carpenter of Baldwyn, MS was ninth, while Tyler Jones of West Memphis, AR rounded out the top ten.

In preliminary action, the six-lap Hoosier Race Tire Speed Dash was won by Taylor and the Engler Machine and Tool first eight-lap heat race was won by Senter.  Amerson won the Brown and Miller Racing Solutions second eight-lap heat race, and Carpenter won the Schoenfeld Headers third eight-lap heat race.

The Street Stocks ran preliminary events on Friday night for the Mid -South Street Stock Challenge at Riverside International Speedway in the Fall Nationals, and the four eight-lap heat races were won by Jared Hays of West Memphis, AR, Nathan Brown of Marion, AR, Ricky Vandergriff of West Memphis, AR, and Johnny Gustavus of West Memphis, AR.  The ten-lap Pole Scramble was won by Lance O’Brien of West Memphis, AR.

The United Sprint Car Series Outlaw Thunder Tour Presented By K&N Filters, the Rock Auto.com USCS 600 Mini Sprints, the USCS Open-Wheel Modifieds, and the Street Stocks will be joined by the Late Models on Saturday night at Riverside International Speedway.  Gates open at 3 p.m. with Racing scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
