Chris Brown Takes Top Loot at Cotton Bowl

Spring, Texas (02/15/17) – Chris Brown wasted little time in getting his first win of the 2017 campaign by storming to the $4,000 USMTS victory on Saturday night at Cotton Bowl Speedway in his Lone Star Hydro & Maintenance #21 MB Customs/ Durham Racing Engine Modified.

The 2017 racing season began for Chris Brown on Thursday night at Cotton Bowl Speedway (Paige, Texas) with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) season-opener. Drawing 42 Modifieds for the event, Chris registered a 4th-place finish in his heat transferring him into the B-Man. Sending the Top 7 into the $2,000-to-win opening A-Main, Brown secured his spot in the finale with a 3rd-place finish. Rolling off 18th for the main event, Chris Brown jumped up six positions in the 40-lapper, posting a 12th-place outing.

On Friday Brown started the night with a heat race victory from the 3rd-starting position, which positioned him 3rd on the starting rundown for the feature. Battling in the Top 5 throughout the event, Chris landed a 4th-place finish behind Jason Hughes, Stormy Scott, and Johnny Scott with R.C. Whitwell coming in 5th.

Closing out the Summit Racing USMTS Southern Region event presented by Production Jars on Saturday evening, Brown again wheeled his way to a heat race win from the 3rd-starting spot. Earning the 6th-starting position for the $4,000-to-win finale, Chris worked his way into a podium position in the early stages of the 50-lapper. Taking advantage of a late-race restart, Brown took control of the top spot on the high-side with only 8 circuits remaining.

Holding off the field in the final laps, Chris Brown captured his first victory of the season topping Jason Hughes, Ricky Thornton Jr., Dereck Ramirez, and Zack VanderBeek at the finish line.

“The race track was perfect,” Brown stated in Victory Lane. “The top three of us were right there in a group, and I know a couple times I saw Gustin peeking in there underneath, so it had to be a heck of a show for all the top cars to be right there.

“Right now the amount of talent following this southern series is just insane. To get a win against this caliber of competition so early in the year is definitely a major boost for our team.”
