Crossing the river: USMTS invades Mississippi for first time Feb. 24-26JACKSON, Miss. (Feb. 21) -- The United States Modified Touring Series will visit its 14th different state this weekend as the series treks into Mississippi for the first time with a trio of events at three of the most popular dirt track venues in the Magnolia State.
The tireless USMTS touring titans take their battle to the home turf of the region's top dirt modified racers, with the three shows doling out $3,000 to the main event to each winner in the Summit Racing USMTS Southern Region presented by Production Jars points battle.
Action kicks off on Friday, Feb. 24, at the Jackson Motor Speedway in Byram.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m., grandstands open at 5, hot laps at 6:30 and racing at 7 p.m. Grandstand are $20, seniors and military get in for $15, kids ages 7-12 are $10 and children ages 6 and under are free. Pit passes are $35 or $20 for kids ages 7-12.
In addition to the USMTS Modifieds, the event will also feature Limited Mods, Nesmith Crate Late Models and Factory Stocks.
The Jackson Motor Speedway is a semi-banked 1/4-mile dirt oval located south of Jackson on I-55 to exit 85 (Byram), then 0.7 mile east on Siwel Rd. to Old Byram Rd., then 0.4 mile north, then east (5448 Old Byram Rd., Byram, MS 39272).

On Saturday, Feb. 25, the Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian rolls out the red carpet at the historic 'House of Hook.'
Pits gates open at 12 noon and grandstands opening at 3 p.m. Hot laps begin at 5 p.m. and the first heat race gets the green flag at 6 p.m. Spectator admission is $20 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children ages 5 and under. Pit passes are $35 for adults, $15 for kids ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and under.
A full racing card is slated with the rugged USMTS road warriors being joined by Limited Mods, Nesmith Crate Late Models ($1,000 to win), Nesmith Street Stocks, Nesmith Late Model Sportsmans, Factory Stocks and Hot Shots/Stingers.

After six nights of racing in Summit Racing USMTS Winter Speedweeks, defending USMTS national champion Jason Hughes of Watts, Okla., leads the points battle by 18 points (531 to 513) over his teammate, Ryan 'The Reaper' Gustin of Marshalltown, Iowa.
Robeline, Louisiana's Cade Dillard is third with 512 markers, followed by Ricky Thornton Jr. of Chandler, Ariz. (504), Stormy Scott of Las Cruces, N.M. (490), Chris Brown of Spring, Texas (483), Johnny Scott of Las Cruces, N.M. (475), Travis Saurer of Elizabethtown, Minn. (464), Dereck Ramirez of Woodward, Okla.
