Schott wins at West Texas Raceway

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 27)--Lucas Schott passed Terry Phillips with 13 laps to go and went on to capture Friday night's USMTS main event at the West Texas Raceway in Lubbock.

Schott, who climbed into the third spot in the USMTS Hunt for the Casey's Cup national points chase, followed front-row starters Phillips and Stormy Scott for the first 27 laps before finding his groove and a way around the two front-runners.

Phillips paced the first 27 laps with Scott pressuring him from the onset. Schott made his move around Scott with 25 laps in the books, and then disposed of Phillips two laps later before marching to his sixth career USMTS triumph.

The 21-year-old from Chatfield, Minnesota, collected $3,325 for his efforts, including bonuses from Rancho Milagro. Phillips and Scott followed "Cool Hand Luke" across the finish line while national points leader Jake O'Neil held off tenth-starting Cade Dillard for fourth.

Johnny Scott, who maintains the top spot in the Summit USMTS Southern Series standings, finished sixth while Dereck Ramirez raced from 16th to seventh to claim both the Eibach Spring Forward Award and FK Rod Ends Hard Charger Award.

Eighth went to Real Racing Wheels "B" Main #2 winner Joe Duvall, two-time USMTS national champ Rodney Sanders was ninth and Zack VanderBeek completed the top ten.
