USMTS caravan checks in to Ardmore, Lubbock, Amarillo ovals May 4-6

ARDMORE, Okla. (April 30) -- United States Modified Touring Series drivers embark on the final leg of the grueling race to become champion of the Summit Racing Equipment USMTS Southern Region presented by Production Jars with a tripleheader of events this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 4-6.

Action heats up Thursday with a return trip to the Southern Oklahoma Speedway in Ardmore, Okla. Then on Friday, the series makes its maiden voyage to the West Texas Raceway in Lubbock, Texas, before wrapping up the three-night grind at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas.

Each of the three shows will dole out $3,000 to the feature race winner with nearly $60,000 in total prize money up for grabs during the 72-hour swing.

Cade Dillard leads the points battle into this week's campaign on the strength of his five wins. Ricky Thornton Jr. has three victories to his credit and sits in the second spot, followed by Chris Brown, Jason Hughes and Ryan Gustin. Stormy Scott, Zack VanderBeek, Dereck Ramirez, Johnny Scott and Travis Saurer complete the top ten.

Four other pilots-R.C. Whitwell, Joe Duvall, Tyler Wolff, Billy Vogel and Trevor Egbert-hold down the next five spots with a berth in the Hunt for the Casey's USMTS National Championship hanging in the balance. Drivers finishing in the top 15 in points or with perfect attendance in the region are locked in the title chase.

On Thursday at the Southern Oklahoma Speedway, pit gates open at 4 p.m., spectator gates open at 5, hot laps start at 7:10 and racing begins at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $20 each, juniors ages 11-16 are $10 and kids ages 10 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. Eco Mods and Sport Mods will also be on the card.

Friday's inaugural event at the West Texas Raceway will see the pit gate swing open at 4 p.m. and the grandstands will open for seating at 5:30. Hot laps begin at 8 with the first green flag flying at 8:30 p.m. General admission is $20, kids ages 5-16 are $10. Pit passes are $35. Children 4 and under are admitted free of charge. Southern Sport Mods, Stock Cars and Street Stocks will also be in action.

The 8th Annual Amarillo Ambush takes place on Saturday at the Route 66 Motor Speedway with pits opening at 4:30 p.m. and grandstands open at 6. Hot laps start at 6:30 and the first heat race hits the track at 7 p.m. General admission is $15, kids ages 4 and under get in for free and pit passes are $30. The four-division card will be rounded out by Street Stocks, Limited Late Models and Limited Modifieds.
