David Breazeale Conquers Delayed Four Crown Finale

Greenville, Mississippi (08/13/10) – Not even a one month rain delay could slow David Breazeale’s season down as he mastered an extremely slick Greenville Speedway (Greenville, Mississippi) on Friday night to extend his PRO Dirt Car Series point’s lead and claim the Four Crown Nationals title.

A field of 22 Super Late Models returned for the make-up from the July 1st rain delay, and it was Kyle Beard from Trumann, Arkansas, who was the Southern Belle Pole Qualifier, and he was joined on the front row by Shreveport, Louisiana’s Ray Moore for the 40 lap affair.  Given Moore’s track record at Greenville Speedway, he was a crowd favorite for the $2,000 to win feature, but a broken spring would end his night as the field came to the green flag.

With Moore slowing, the initial attempt at a start was waved off, and Breazeale filled the spot vacated by Moore on the front row.  At the drop of the green flag, Beard would bolt to the early lead before Breazeale took control of the top spot exiting turn two.  Behind the lead duo, brothers Rick and Brian Rickman, began to dice it up for the third spot with Leon Henderson rounding out the top five.

As Breazeale and Beard put distance between themselves, and the rest of the field during the early stages of the event, two and three wide racing reigned supreme throughout the field during the first five laps of the event.

By lap six the leaders were catching lap traffic , and the caution would wave on lap eight for Ray Mauldin, who slowed exiting turn four.  The top five runners at the time of the caution were Breazeale, Beard, Brian Rickman, Rick Rickman, and David Ashley, who started 11th.
On the ensuing restart, Ashley would take advantage of the double file restart to rocket into the third position as he and Beard began to battle for the second position.  Another driver on the move was Ross Camponovo, who cracked the top on lap eight.

The caution flag would wave again to slow the field on lap nine for Mark Dodson, who rolled to a stop.  As the race went green again the top five cars continued to mix things up as David Breazeale maintained a slim advantage.

The race would endure a long green flag run over the next twenty laps, and it became evident quickly that Breazeale and Beard were the class of the field as those two drivers stretched their advantage with Ashley in tow.  By lap 26, Beard had reeled in Breazeale as the duo began to battle for the lead.  Four laps later their battle would be temporarily halted for Patrick Michelle, who spun in turn two.

At the time of the caution flag, the running order consisted of Breazeale, Beard, Ashley, Carpenter, and Rick Rickman.  The next few laps would see cautions littering them with the most noticeable flying on lap 36, when third running David Ashley slipped over the berm in turn four, bringing his great run to an end.  Caution would fly one more time on lap 38 as Michelle spun again, which set up a two lap dash to the checkered flag.

Despite bobbling exiting turn four on the white flag lap, Breazeale would pick up the narrow win over Beard, Brian Rickman, Dean Carpenter, and Rick Rickman.

Ray Moore received the GRT Race Cars Hard Luck Award after a part failure forced him to relinquish his outside front row starting position..
After winning three of the four events, David Breazeale claimed the Four Crown Nationals Championship with Kyle Beard and Brian Rickman rounding out the top three.  At press time the balance of the standings were being determined.
