BROWNSBURG, Ind. (January 28, 2019) - Despite the weekend being cut short due to Mother Nature, Tony Stewart successfully kicked off his 2019 winged sprint car campaign in the Sunshine State, joining the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Outlaw Thunder Tour for the Snow Free Winter Nationals at Hendry (Fla.) Motorsports Park.

Smoke, a three-time winner with the national-level 360 sprint car series in 2018, finished third to kick off his 2019 season, advancing three positions after starting sixth on the feature grid.

“It definitely feels good to be back in a sprint car,” Tony Stewart explained, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car. “We have a lot of racing left this month. We were happy to make the trip to Hendry County to get some laps before we join the All Stars at Bubba Raceway Park next weekend.”

Wasting little time advancing his way through the feature field, Stewart climbed two positions at Hendry County before the completion of lap one. By lap 11, Smoke was in a heated battle for third, actually making accidental contact with Mark Smith during his battle for the podium spot. As a result, Smith was forced to go to the tail of the field after spinning to a stop; Smoke inherited the position.

Although forced to work on a narrow racing surface, the battle for the top two spots continued on, actually molding into a three-way, nose-to-tail chase for the lead during the final circuits. Despite his efforts, Smoke would settle for third behind Davie Franek and eventual winner, Danny Smith.

Up next on the schedule, Tony Stewart and Tony Stewart Racing will continue their Florida venture with a visit to Bubba Raceway Park, joining the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 for the annual Winter Nationals. The three-day, All Star segment of the Winter Nationals will begin on Thursday, January 31.

Date: Saturday, January 26, 2019
Event: $2,000-to-win 360 Sprint Car Event at Stockton Dirt Track
Series: Open Event
Track: Stockton Dirt Track (Stockton, Calif.)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 2nd (3rd)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (January 28, 2019) - Rico Abreu’s 2019 sprint car season is officially underway, kicking things off with 360 sprint car competition at the Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, California.

Certainly no stranger to the Stockton Dirt Track, Abreu, aboard his Rico Abreu Racing/Curb Agajanian/Abreu Vineyards/Lucas Oil/Curb Records/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, finished second during the $2,000-to-win afternoon special, climbing ahead one position on a narrow, but quick 4/10-mile clay oval.

“It was nice to get back in a sprint car,” Rico Abreu said, who won the Gary Patterson Tribute at Stockton to conclude his 2018 season. “I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work and dedication. Obviously, we ended last season on a pretty solid note. It was nice to continue that momentum this weekend. We have a few weeks off before we race again, but we’ll be ready to go.”

Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu Racing/Curb Agajanian will enter the bulk of their 2019 campaign fresh off of a competitive season in 2018. The St. Helena, Calif., native earned five victories last year, three of which taking shape in his home state of California. Perhaps Abreu’s most memorable moment in 2018 took shape in Pevely, Mo., when the pilot of the familiar No. 24 took out the Outlaws for a $20,000 top prize during the annual Ironman 55. It was Abreu’s second consecutive Ironman 55 title.

Updates regarding Rico Abreu’s 2019 schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. Fans are encouraged to stay alert via all respective social media channels; Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
