Rico Abreu rallies for top-five at Stockton

Date: Saturday, February 23rd
Event: 360 Sprint Car Event at Stockton Dirt Track
Series: Open Event
Track: Stockton Dirt Track (Stockton, Calif.)
Rico Abreu A-Main Finish (Start): 3rd (16th)

ST. HELENA, Calif. (February 25, 2019) - Despite being forced to stay sidelined during heat race competition due to engine trouble, St. Helena, California’s Rico Abreu persevered and transformed hard times into success, ultimately rallying 13 positions at Stockton (Calif.) Dirt Track to earn a second consecutive top-five result during 360c.i. sprint car competition.

“I can’t thank my team enough for their hard work and dedication. We basically missed every opportunity to get on the track on Saturday minus the feature,” Rico Abreu explained. “Luckily, we were able to fix the motor problem and make it out for the main event. The car was nice. They gave me something I felt comfortable in and it really shows. I’m already looking forward to next weekend.”

With Mother Nature erasing all hope for his original plans to follow through, Abreu, driver of the Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing/Abreu Vineyards/Curb Records/Southern Pacific Farms/Lucas Oil Products/Priority Aviation/No. 24 sprint car, decided to make the short trip to Stockton Dirt Track on Saturday, February 23, and enter an open ‘360’ event.

Although early signs made a feature attempt doubtful, actually missing both heat races of the double heat format due to engine woes, Abreu was able to fix the issues and tag the feature field. The team’s persistence proved well-worth the effort as Abreu climbed ahead from 16th on the grid to finish third; his second top-five in as many starts at Stockton Dirt Track.

Up next on the schedule, Rico Abreu and Rico Abreu/Curb Agajanian Racing will make the tow to ‘Fabulous’ Las Vegas and join the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series for a two-day stint on Wednesday and Thursday, February 27 & 28. Abreu joined the Greatest Show On Dirt for the Vegas venture in 2018 and highlighted his trip with a 16th place finish during night two of the two-day program.

Smoke earns USCS victory at Southern Raceway

Dates: Friday and Saturday, February 22nd & 23rd
Event: Winter Heat
Series: United Sprint Car Series (USCS) Outlaw Thunder Tour/Deep South
Track: Southern Raceway (Milton, Fla.)
Tony Stewart A-Main Finishes (Start):
Friday: 1st (4th)
Saturday: 2nd (5th)

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (February 25, 2019) - ‘Smoke’ Tony Stewart has been a man on a mission thus far in 2019, this time adding another 360c.i. sprint car victory to his ever-growing racing resume.

Stewart, driver of the Tony Stewart/Curb-Agajanian Racing/Rush Truck Centers/Ford Performance/Curb Records/Sage Fruit/Absolute Automation & Security/No. 14 sprint car, earned his second victory of the 2019 season, his first in a 360 sprint car, during USCS Outlaw Thunder Tour competition at Southern Raceway in Milton, Florida.

In actuality, Southern Raceway hosted two nights of USCS competition during the recent weekend with Smoke winning the first, followed by a runner-up finish during night two.

Smoke’s victory on Friday night commenced from the outside of row two. Although slowed by two early cautions, the Columbus, Ind., native made progress in a hurry, actually advancing into second by the completion of lap one. Forced to track down race-long leader, Mark Smith, in dirty air, Smoke did just that and eventually slipped by the Central Pennsylvania-native during an intense battle in traffic. Although Smith attempted to get back by the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Smoke was better, eventually pulling away to clinch what was his ninth top-ten finish in 11 starts.

“Anytime you have to race against a guy like Mark Smith, you better be ready to hit the gas pedal because he’s always on the move,” Tony Stewart explained. “We are racing with a lot of confidence right now. Jimmy and Marty continue to give me great race cars. I’m just the lucky guy who gets to go out there and drive them.”

Smoke’s second row starting spot was set up by an impressive heat race rally that consisted of a charge from seventh to finish second.

Stewart nearly went two-for-two on the weekend at Southern Raceway, but Mark Smith returned the favor and proved his dominance on Saturday, ultimately forcing Smoke to settle for second after starting from row three.

A late caution gave Stewart the opportunity to steal the top spot, but the opportunity was not enough.

“It was a fun weekend,” Stewart continued. “If we can keep building on this consistency, good things will continue to happen for us. I’m excited to get back out there and race again.”

Tony Stewart’s upcoming sprint car plans are uncertain. Fans are encouraged to stay alert via social media for further updates.
