Dereck Ramirez Claims Mod Mania Finale at Mason City
USMTS Tripleheader On Deck this Weekend

WOODWARD, Okla. (08/04/20) – Dereck Ramirez drove his Ramirez Motorsports No. 4r Koda Services/ Boom-Test Well Service/ Raw Truck Wash/ Hughes Race Car/ Cornett Racing Engine Modified to his fourth win of the season on Thursday.

Ramirez claimed the $4,000 top prize in Thursday’s United States Modified Touring Series Mod Mania finale at Mason City (Iowa) Motor Speedway.

With 30 USMTS entries at Mason City Motor Speedway, Dereck posted a runner-up finish in his heat behind Terry Phillips, locking him into the seventh-starting position for the opening night feature. With $2,000 on the line, Ramirez faded four spots in the 35-lapper to register an 11th place outing.

The following night, with the winner’s purse increased to $3,000, Ramirez jumped two spots in his heat race to come home third. Starting the feature in 10th, Dereck dropped one spot to place 11th.

For the finale on Thursday, Dereck notched a second-place finish in his heat behind Rodney Sanders, which positioned him fourth on the starting grid for the main event.

With front-row starters Lucas Schott and Rodney Sanders duking it out for the lead in the first 20 laps, Ramirez began closing in on the leaders as they exchanged the top spot. Overtaking Sanders on lap 26, Dereck led the remaining 15 circuits to capture his second win of the year at the third-mile oval ahead of Schott, Sanders, Terry Phillips, and Hunter Marriott.

“I knew the bottom was going to clean off at the end there, it just took a while,” Ramirez revealed in victory lane. “When we got that long green flag, everybody was throwing the dust out there, and on that restart, I knew it’d clean back up so I just stayed down there.”

“Rodney was struggling. He was probably the better car, but he just didn’t get down there fast enough,” said Ramirez who turned in a pair of head-scratching 11th-place finishes the previous two nights.
“I did a little different thing to the car tonight. I talked to Jimmy (Owens) a little bit and he helped out, and the two guys over here (referring to crew members Johnny Overgaard and Marco Costa) we went to work and figured a little bit of something out.”

The USMTS embarks on a three-day excursion this week with stops in Kansas and Missouri. Action gets going Thursday at the 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas, followed by the 14th Annual USMTS Summer Fling at the Humboldt Speedway in Humboldt, Kansas, on Friday. The weekend concludes Saturday with the 11th Annual USMTS Slick Mist Show-Me Shootout presented by Foley Equipment at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri.

Dereck is closing the distance on Rodney Sanders atop the USMTS National Championship point standings, he currently sits 114 markers behind Sanders for second. Complete results from these events and the latest Series standings are available at www.USMTS.com.

Kerry Madsen Posts Podiums at Plymouth Dirt Track and Huset's Speedway

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 4, 2020) - Kerry Madsen enjoyed a successful four-race weekend with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, capturing two podiums and four top 10s in a stacked field of competitors.

The action began for Big Game Motorsports last Thursday at Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis., where Madsen guided the Killer Instinct Crossbows sponsored team to the fourth quickest time in qualifying. Fourth-place runs in a heat race and a dash preceded a runner-up result in the $26,000-to-win Rayce Rudeen Foundation Race.

"Thursday went really well," Madsen said. "Unfortunately we drew sixth in the dash and with two dashes that's pretty far back. We moved up a bit and started seventh in the A Main. We got going really well in the middle of the race. In the later stages of the race (Kyle) Larson cleared some lapped cars and I couldn't so we ended second."

The competition shifted to 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, on Friday. Madsen qualified ninth quickest, placed second in a heat race and gained three positions in the main event to finish seventh.

"We qualified well for when we went out," he said. "We needed to win the heat to get into the dash and we ended up running second. We started 10 th in the feature and I got a really good start, but a car in front of me got a bit out of control and I lost the spots I had gained. Right at the end we came to life, but it was too late."

Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, hosted an event on Saturday. Madsen timed in third quickest in qualifying. He placed second in both a heat race and a dash before ending the night sixth in the main event.

"We were having a great night at Knoxville," he said. "We were good all night, but just didn't pull it off in the A Main. We just need to be a little better and for me to drive better. I ended up moving around and lost a couple of spots."

The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Huset's Speedway, which featured the $20,000-to-win C & B Operations Grand Reopening presented by Folkens Brothers Trucking. Madsen overcame the 20th quickest qualifying time by winning a heat race from third. He then won a dash to garner the pole position for the feature.

"We were definitely good enough to have won the show," he said. "Early on I was getting tight off turn four. I moved down and found I was really good on the bottom."

Madsen led the first dozen laps, fell to third and rallied to regain the lead for several more laps midway through the race.

"I let myself get boxed in with lappers," he said. "I should have moved around a little more and pushed the issue. It was disappointing, but it was still a great night."

Madsen finished with a third-place result, which was his ninth top five of the season.

Big Game Motorsports plans on racing this Thursday and Saturday at Knoxville Raceway during the 30th annual My Place Hotels 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

Brian Brown Records Strong Outings With All Stars at Knoxville and Huset's

Inside Line Promotions - BRANDON, S.D. (Aug. 4, 2020) - Brian Brown captured a top five at Knoxville Raceway and a top 10 at Huset's Speedway last weekend to highlight three races with the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions.

July 31 - 34 Raceway in West Burlington , Iowa - Qualifying: 23; Heat race: 6 (8); Feature: DNF (18).

"It was a bit of a struggle all night," Brown said. "We didn't qualify well, but we were able to transfer through the heat. I think we were up to 12th in the feature. We tried to make something happen and got passed by four cars. It wasn't our night and we knew we had a big rest of the weekend ahead of us. We wanted to make sure we got the car back in one piece to concentrate on Saturday and Sunday so we pulled off early."

Aug. 1 - Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville , Iowa - Qualifying: 9; Heat race: 1 (2); Dash: 3 (5); Feature: 4 (6).

"I missed the bottom a little in qualifying and that cost us a little time," Brown said. "We were able to win the heat, which was good. In the feature we had a pretty good car. We got into second and I got to a few lapped cars. I slowed my pace down to their speed. I had to fight off Rico (Abreu) and Gio (Scelzi) and they got the best of me so we ended up fourth. Overall it was a very hard-fought fourth-place finish. We had a car that was capable of being second, but I just didn't do a very good job when we got to lapped cars. Then it became a chess match for 10 laps and we couldn't get going again. On a positive note it was a brand new car that we wanted to try and I felt like we made some gains."

Aug. 2 - Huset's Speedway in Brandon, S.D. - Qualifying: 8; Heat race: 2 (2); Dash: 5 (5); Feature: 9 (9).

"I think everybody had hoped, but I don't know if anyone thought we'd be back at Huset's," Brown said. "It was best-case scenario when Tod (Quiring) bought it. He's been a big-time supporter of sprint car racing. It was a huge, huge night for Upper Midwest sprint car racing to have Sunday with a huge crowd and a huge car count. It was great racing all night.

"Short tracks have been our Achilles Heel, especially this year. Even though ninth is not a win, I felt like we made a lot of gains. Chad had the car good all night long. There's a lot of big races coming up the next three months so we can put those notes to good use."

UP NEXT - Thursday through Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, for the 30th annual My Place Hotel 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank

"Our 360 program at Knoxville has been really good for a while," Brown said. "We've been able to win. We've qualified pretty well. I'm looking forward to this weekend. The 360 Nationals is an event and it's one you mark on the calendar that you want to win every year. I feel like we have the team and the car. If the driver does his job we have a great shot to contend for the title on Saturday."

SEASON STATS -

34 races, 4 wins, 11 top fives, 19 top 10s, 25 top 15s, 25 top 20s
