McClelland Wins ASCS Sooner At Lawton To Tie Ramey For Overall Regional Wins

(June 18, 2022) Rolling into Victory Lane at Lawton Speedway with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products, Sean McClelland captured his 20th career victory with the Oklahoma-based region, and in doing so, has tied Ft. Worth’s Kevin Ramey at the top of the win chart.

Kevin has held the spot with 20 wins since August 22, 2014, at what was then called Red River Speedway in Iowa Park, Texas. At the end of that season, the ASCS Sooner and Lone Star Regions combined into the Red River Region through 2018.

Taking off third at Lawton, Sean battled with Kade Morton early as Whit Gastineau took off with the point. A pair of cautions early, the race resumed with three laps complete and the No. 2 again leading the way. Working on Morton for second, after Shebester pulled off during the previous caution, the No. 87 shot to the runner-up spot and began tracking down Gastineau.

Both working the top of the Lawton Speedway, McClelland began moving his entry around. Starting to pull up on the No. 2, the pair raced a couple car lengths apart for several laps. Able to get some room over the No. 87 through the mid-point of the A-Feature, the caution lights came on with five laps to go.

Going straight to the cushion on the restart as Gastineau shot low, McClelland hammered down to the back straightaway to take the lead and run away to the win. Getting a challenge from Morton coming to the white flag, Whit was able to fend off the charge. Jeffrey Newell made it to fourth with Kade Morton in fifth.

The next event for the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products is slated for Saturday, July 16 at Colcord Speedway with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series National Tour.

Derek Hagar Races To Lucas Oil ASCS Checkers In Texarkana

Bryan Hulbert – TEXARKANA, Ark. (June 17, 2022) Landing his seventh career victory with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network Friday night at Texarkana 67 Speedway, Derek Hagar led all but one lap en route to his seventh overall win this season.

Following Matt Covington and Garet Williamson through the first start, the caution for Dylan Postier presented Hagar his shot at the lead. Watching Williamson adjust his line high to block Covington’s run, the bottom was left wide open for the No. 9jr to exploit.

“I knew [Garet] Williamson was either going to try and float the middle or go straight to the top after seeing what Matt [Covington] did on the first start,” explained Hagar. “I had a really good run on that second start, so I just stayed tucked to his left rear, and as soon as he committed to the top, I just stuck the bottom and tried to keep my momentum up.”

Building his advantage through the opening laps as Williamson and Covington fought for the runner-up spot, slower traffic started coming in the play on Lap 9.

Letting the Bryant Paver Motorsports No. 24 close the gap, Williamson found his opportunity working Lap 11. Dashing under Hagar down the backstretch, Garet held the lead into the first and second turns. Missing the bottom just by inches, Hagar was right there to take advantage.

“I could tell lapped traffic was getting the same speed as I was after I moved up and started trying the top, and before I could get back down, Williamson passed me, and we raced pretty tight through three and four. I was able to stay with him, and luckily he missed the entry just enough in one I was able to get back by him.”

Unchallenged from there, Derek pulled away by 2.248-seconds. Matching his best career finish with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series, Garet Williamson held on for second while Tim Crawley wrestled back to third after slipping back to fifth on Lap 13. Blake Hahn made up two spots to take fourth, with Matt Covington ending up fifth.

Brandon Anderson, sixth, was followed by Kyler Johnson, who rebounded from a tangle on Lap 14 that he was able to get away from without stopping. Dustin Gates crossed eighth, with Jason Martin charging through the field from 21st after suffering ignition failure in Qualifying and fuel issues in his Heat Race. Wayne Johnson completed the top ten.

The night consisted of 26 competitors, with Eric Baldaccini establishing the track record at 13.929-seconds. Sadly, a failed driveline would make that the only competitive lap the Keller, Texas driver ran all night. SCE Gaskets Heat Races were topped by Matt Covington, Landon Britt, and Blake Hahn. All drivers went to the A-Feature.

The next stop for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network is Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La., on Saturday, June 18. The track is located at 39 Daytona Dr. in Greenwood, La. (roughly 18 miles from Shreveport). Gates open at 6:00 P.M. with racing at 7:70 P.M. (CDT). Chance Morton Lands ASCS Sooner Region Win At Tulsa Speedway

Bryan Hulbert – TULSA, Okla. (June 17, 2022) Joining his brother on the list of ASCS Sooner Region winners, Chance Morton broke into Victory Lane with the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products at Tulsa Speedway on Friday night.

Morton's second career ASCS Regional win, his first came with the former Red River Region in 2017.

Chasing the No. 26m of Fred Mattox from the start, Morton slipped past Mattox in the closing laps to secure the win. Mattox would end up second with Rees Moran third. Fourth went to Danny Smith, followed by Jeffrey Newel in fifth.

Elizabeth Phillips advanced two spots to sixth, with Zach Chappell in seventh. Noah Harris, Kade Morton, and Lance Norick completed the top ten.

The American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region presented by Smiley’s Racing Products rolls south for the next event at Lawton Speedway on Saturday, June 18. Races go green at 8:00 P.M. Fans can enter the track starting at 5:00 P.M. (CDT). Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for Seniors, youth (12-15), and Military, $2 for kids 6-11, and free for kids five and under.

Wayne Johnson Masterful In Lucas Oil ASCS Return To Boothill Speedway

(June 18, 2022) Adding a second win to his season with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by the MAVTV Motorsports Network, Oklahoma’s Wayne Johnson was masterful around the bottom of the Boothill Speedway Saturday night. A $4,000 to-win affair, Bruce Griffith, Jr. and Terry Monroe with Big Truck Paint Shop and Truck Parking kicked in $500 more to the winner’s share.

Wayne’s 56th career win with the National Tour, the No. 2c chased Blake Hahn through the opening seven laps. Ripping the top at the start as Blake held the bottom from the pole, Hahn rolled a little too close to an infield tire in the first and second turns.

Sending Blake around, the lead fell to Wayne Johnson.

“I was really just riding to feel out what he [Blake] was planning. I ran the top in one and two, and I knew that wasn’t the place to be. Riding around there before we went green, I could tell the bottom was going to be juiced up in one and two, and there was a lot of grip on entry through the bottom of three,” explained Wayne of the start.

“Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to have a chance at Blake unless he just missed the bottom or had to do something drastic with a lapped car. He doesn’t make those mistakes. He’s been doing this a long time, so it was a deal of fortunate for me, unfortunate for him, but I was shocked to see it happen.”

Taking off from the field on the restart, the race halted on Lap 10 a couple of times. Finally, having to open up the red flag after Jason Martin and Joey Schmidt went upside down, the race resumed with Wayne again pulling away from the field.

Working into traffic at two to go, the final caution came out as a pair of cars tangled in from the Wayne. Able to avoid, the dash to the finish saw Wayne regain 1.852-seconds of the 4.789-seconds he had before the yellow.

Asked if the crew made any significant changes under the red, Wayne said, “Not really. Our car was good, I just felt like we needed a couple of little things to make it better. With this tire shortage, we’re running a D12 on the left rear instead of an RD12, so it’s a little harder compound, so under the cautions, I was really having to buzz the tires to keep heat in it, and right before the red it felt like it wasn’t going as good as it had been, so we just adjusted to help get the left rear going again, and I’ll tell you, my car at the end was better than it was before.”

Leaving Brandon Anderson to battle for second, the No. 55b held off the pressure of Tim Crawley for the runner-up spot.

Brandon’s career-best finish with the National Tour, the show run for Crawley is his second on the weekend and 125th career podium appearance. A rebound night from a failed driveline on Friday, Eric Baldaccini in fourth is the third time he’s finished inside the top five. Changing engines after Friday night’s race, Tony Bruce, Jr. rolled the bottom to a fifth-place finish.

Top to bottom around the Boothill Speedway, Landon Crawley moved 12th to sixth. Working the top to fourth at one point, a slap to the wall set Dustin Gates back to a seventh-place finish. Into the work area under the red, Blake Hahn fought back to finish eighth, with Ryan Bickett earning hard charger with a run from 19th to ninth. Bradyn Baker completed the top ten.

Matt Covington established the track record over the field of 21 with a time of 12.743-seconds. Three SCE Gaskets Heat Races went to Eric Baldaccini, Brandon Anderson, and Tony Bruce, Jr. Saturday’s race was the fourth at Boothill Speedway, 27th in Louisiana, and the 1,048th event for the National Tour.
