Sprint Car Double for Sunshine this Weekend after Kokomo Grand Prix Triumph

Lonnie Wheatley, INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 19, 2018) – Coming off the heels of his third overall win of the young season in last weekend’s Kokomo Grand Prix, Tyler Courtney gets back into Sprint Car action with a pair of Indiana events this weekend.

“Sunshine” and the Clauson-Newman-Marshall Racing Priority Aviation No. 7bc Sprint Car team will take a shot at Friday night’s “No Way Out 40” $10,000 winner’s share at Brownstown Speedway before resuming USAC National Sprint Car action at Montpelier Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the Sprint Car, it seems like it has been a while,” Courtney commented.

It has been some time indeed, no thanks to Mother Nature and a run of inclement weather. Courtney’s last Sprint Car action came in February’s opening set of USAC events in Florida, where he reached victory lane in two of three events.

Courtney made another trip to victory lane last Friday night in USAC National Midget action before Saturday’s event was washed out.

The prestigious Kokomo Grand Prix victory aboard the Clauson-Marshall Racing Driven2SaveLives/Indiana Donor Network No. 7bc Midget was Sunshine’s third score of the year in just eleven starts.

“We made the most of the weekend by getting the win on Friday night,” Courtney commented.  “It was what we needed after the first race at Du Quoin.”

After slipping back to sixth in the early going of the Kokomo Grand Prix feature, Courtney was soon on the move toward the front.

“I ran bottom to the middle early,” Courtney says.  “They left my lane open on the bottom, so I let those guys worry about each other and raced my own race.  I was able to get into the lead and do my own thing.”

It wasn’t without tension though, as a dicey moment in traffic and a late caution made Courtney earn the win.

“I had to just pucker down and play defense those last few laps,” Courtney recalls.  “I had a really good car again.”

Courtney hopes to carry that momentum into this weekend with a $10,000 winner’s share on the line Friday at Brownstown and then valuable USAC National Sprint Car points looming on Saturday.

“Sunshine” has shown speed at both, finishing second in last year’s “No Way Out 40” at Brownstown and picking up a USAC Midget win at Montpelier.

“I’ve gone pretty good each time at Brownstown and Tim (Clauson) won the last couple of times he was there with Bryan, so I feel like we should be good,” Courtney explains.  “Montpelier is a fun place too, I’m excited about this weekend.”

2018 Quick Stats:  11 races, 3 wins, 6 top-fives, 6 top-tens.

Up Next: “No Way Out 40” non-wing Sprint Cars at Brownstown (IN) Speedway on Friday night; USAC National Sprint Cars at Montpelier (IN) Motor Speedway on Saturday night.

Bellm Back to Creek County after Season-Opening Top Ten

Lonnie Wheatley, NIXA, Mo. (April 19, 2018) – Kyle Bellm and the Nixa, Missouri based No. 14k Sprint Car team fire back into action with Friday night’s ASCS Red River Region card atop the ¼-mile Creek County Speedway clay oval near Tulsa, OK.

It will mark the first action for the Greenworks Nursery/Landscapes Awarded team since opening the season with 81 Speedway’s Air Capital Shootout near Wichita, KS, on March 30-31 where he raced to a top-ten finish in the opening leg of the double.

In that 81 Speedway double that offered up a $13,000 winner’s share, Bellm battled through twin heats in the Friday night preliminary event to earn the 14th starting position aboard the Christian County Collision Repair/Bybee Lawn Care entry.

From there, Bellm worked his way forward in the 25-lap feature event against a stout field to post a ninth-place finish.

“There were 60 of the best 360’s in the country there and we were going forward, so we feel good about that,” Bellm said.

After drawing a stacked heat in the Saturday finale, Bellm raced his way into the main event through “B” Main action and opted to take the PPG Automotive Finishes/Colorvision Sprint Car pitside early on due to track conditions.

“The way the track was, there really wasn’t anything to gain by staying out,” Bellm said.

After last weekend’s racing plans were washed out, Bellm is ready to get back in action Friday night at Creek County Speedway.  Bellm has posted a pair of runner-up finishes aboard the VP Racing Fuels/Schure Built Suspensions/Schaeffers Racing Oil entry atop the cozy confines of Creek County, including his most recent Sapulpa outing last July.

“Creek County has either been really good or really bad for us, there doesn’t seem to be an in between,” Bellm explains.  “The last time there, we should have won.  So hopefully we can gain that extra spot this weekend.”

Friday’s action at Creek County Speedway is set to go green at 8:00 p.m.

2018 Quick Stats:  2 races, 1 top-ten.

Up Next: ASCS Red River Region at Creek County Speedway (Sapulpa, OK) on Friday night.

McIntosh Makes Sprint Car Debut after Top Ten Midget Run at Meeker

Lonnie Wheatley, BIXBY, Okla. (April 19, 2018) – Already with a Midget feature win to his credit last year, 15-year-old Cannon McIntosh makes another big step by making his Sprint Car debut at Friday night’s ASCS Red River Region event atop Sapulpa, Oklahoma’s Creek County Speedway clay oval.

After taking in his first career Sprint Car laps on Friday night, McIntosh and the RL Hudson/Toyota-TRD No. 08 Midget team will make the trek to Pevely, Missouri’s Federated Auto Parts I-55 Raceway on Saturday night for POWRi National Midget action via an assist from Big Shirley Productions and Sanders and Associates.

“I’m really excited about it,” the Bixby, OK, native said of his slated Sprint Car maiden voyage on Friday night.  “We haven’t got any laps in it yet, so I’m looking forward to it.”

McIntosh enters the weekend after racing to an eighth-place finish is last Friday night’s 25-lap POWRi West Midget event at Meeker, Oklahoma’s Red Dirt Raceway.

McIntosh made a last-lap move to win his heat race at Red Dirt Raceway, landing a front row starting position in the feature.  After battling amongst the lead group in the early going, McIntosh rebounded from a turn two miscue to post the strong top-ten finish at the quarter-mile oval.

“It was fun, I just made a couple of mistakes that cost us a better finish,” McIntosh said of the Red Dirt Raceway outing.  “The car was great, we kept driving to the front with it.”

After making his first Sprint Car laps on Friday at Creek County Speedway, Saturday will mark McIntosh’s first visit to Pevely’s I-55 Raceway.

“I haven’t been there but it looks like a racy place, it should be fun,” McIntosh commented.  “We’re definitely looking forward to this weekend.”

Along with RL Hudson and Toyota-TRD, other marketing partners making the ambitious 2018 slate of events possible includes American Discount, Complete Auto Care, Best Graphics, Fieldhouse Gear, Precision Inspection, Sanders and Associates, Panels by Smoke, Walker Performance, Sanders Wheels, American Discount Brake and Muffler, D&N Fabrication, Car and Fleet and Infinity Shocks.

Reutzel Starts Strong with All Stars – Three-Race Set on Tap for this Weekend

Lonnie Wheatley, CLUTE, Texas (April 19, 2018) – The off-season hard work and preparation is paying early dividends for Aaron Reutzel and the Baughman-Reutzel Motorsports No. 87 Sprint Car team with a strong start to the All Star Circuit of Champions season in central Pennsylvania last weekend.

After kicking off the series title chase on Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway, the Clute, TX, racer drove the Folkens Brothers Tucking/Dissolvalloy Downhole Revolution Triple-X Sprint Car to a strong runner-up finish in Saturday’s tilt at Port Royal Speedway before Sunday’s go at Bedford Speedway fell victim to rain.

“It was a great way to start the points race, hopefully we can continue it this weekend,” Reutzel says.

This weekend’s slate of action includes a pair of All Star cards in Ohio at Attica Raceway Park on Friday and then Wayne County Speedway on Saturday before joining in on World of Outlaws competition at Haubstadt, Indiana’s Tri-State Speedway on Sunday night.

The All Star title pursuit got under way for the Precision Catalyst/Hollywood Blasting & Coating/Beard Equipment team last Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, PA.

“We were in the last flight and qualified second,” Reutzel recalls.  “That turned out to not be good though, nobody that started second row in the heats made it to the dash.”

After a fourth-place run in the heat to earn a feature position, the team did little toying with the machine before the feature.

“We were okay in the heat race.  We didn’t do a lot before the feature, but we should have tightened up a lot.  We just weren’t any good,” Reutzel said of the 19th place finish.

Reutzel and the Nattress Construction/Momentum Racing Suspensions team bounced back in a big way on Saturday night at Port Royal Speedway.

After setting overall quick time of 16.473 seconds over a stout field of 47 entries, Reutzel earned the third starting position for the feature.

“It was slicker than I’ve seen it,” Reutzel said of the ½-mile Port Royal oval.  “We went from third to second in the Dash, doing it in the slick.  So we felt pretty good.”

Reutzel put the BRM No. 87 out front in short order in the feature and led much of the way until a crucial open red flag midway through the race.

“We got to the lead and I felt like I was setting a good pace,” Reutzel recalls.  “I thought we would be alright.”

The past ASCS National champion spotted potential problems at the open red flag at the midway point.

“I saw that my left rear was pretty blistered,” Reutzel says.  “We added some air to take care of it and I backed my entry off some to keep it straighter.”

Even with the blistered left rear, Reutzel maintained the lead until the 21st round of the 30 lapper and then held a solid second position the rest of the way to escape the Central Pennsylvania double with the virtual All Star Circuit of Champions points lead.

Off to a strong start of a season that already includes his first career World of Outlaws triumph, Reutzel and the BRM No. 87 team look to carry that success into this weekend’s set of events.

2018 Quick Stats:  10 races, 1 win, 3 top-fives, 3 top-tens.
