Earl Pearson Jr. Races to Fifth Win of 2018 with Brown County Triumph
Black Diamond Race Team Adds Top-5 Finish in Silver Dollar Nationals

Shreveport, Louisiana (07/24/18) – Earl Pearson Jr. took the Black Diamond Racecars House Car/ Lucas Oil #1 P&W Sales/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model into battle in four Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events last weekend.

He enjoyed a strong week of racing, which included a $10,000 victory at Brown County Speedway and a Top-5 finish in the 8th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals. The victory was his fifth of the 2018 season.

“We started things with a real good run on Tuesday at Brown County Speedway, where we were able to get to the lead late and grab that win,” Pearson Jr. noted. “We battled the handle in Wednesday and Thursday’s shows, but we had a really good car for Friday and Saturday at the Silver Dollar Nationals. I can’t say enough about this team. They’ve been busting their tails nonstop. It’s going to be nice to have a few weeks off for us all to catch our breath before we get ready for another busy stretch of racing.”

On Tuesday night Earl Pearson Jr. returned to action with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Brown County Speedway (Aberdeen, South Dakota) for the Bullet Sportswear Shootout. Drawing 24 Super Late Models, Pearson Jr. jumped one spot in his 10-lap heat race, scoring a third-place finish.

Earning the eighth-starting position for the A-Main, Earl navigated his way through the field early setting his eyes on race-leader Bobby Pierce by lap-40. With a side-by-side duel raging for the next ten laps, Pearson Jr. overtook Pierce for good on lap-48 en route to his fourth win of the season and a $10,000 payday. Josh Richards, Pierce, Ricky Weiss, and Don O’Neal completed the Top-5 finishers in the 50-lap affair.

The following night at Jackson Motorplex (Jackson, Minnesota) for the Sturdevant’s Auto Parts 50, Earl locked his spot into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a fourth-place finish in his heat. Starting in 11th, Pearson Jr. gained one spot to place 10th.

Thursday night brought 43 LOLMDS entries to I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) for the Malvern Bank Go 50. Coming one spot shy of a transfer position in his heat with a fifth-place finish, Earl logged a fifth-place finish in his B-Main forcing him to rely on a series provisional to start the main event. Starting in 23rd, Pearson Jr. passed seven cars in the 50-lapper to register a 16th-place outing.

Returning on Friday evening for two rounds of heat races, Pearson Jr. passed three cars in his first heat, reeling in a runner-up finish behind Hudson O’Neal. Starting in the sixth position in his second heat, Earl jumped up three spots to place third.

Earning the sixth-starting position for the $53,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday night, Earl Pearson Jr. gained one spot in the 100-lap affair, notching a fifth-place finish behind Jonathan Davenport, Ricky Weiss, Jimmy Owens, and Hudson O’Neal.

The team will enjoy a two-week break before returning to action with four nights of racing with the LOLMDS at Florence Speedway (Union, Kentucky) on August 8-11. Action opens with the $12,000-to-win Ralph Latham Memorial on Wednesday, August 8, while the $10,000-to-win, North/South Shootout will be held on Thursday. The weekend reaches a fever pitch on August 10-11 as the $50,000-to-win, 36th Annual Sunoco Race Fuels North/South 100 comes to life.

Jason Hughes Charges to Runner-Up Finish in USMTS Silver Dollar Nationals
COMP Cams Super Dirt Series Super Late Model Action Up Next


Westville, Oklahoma (7/24/18) – Jason Hughes battled his way to a runner-up finish in Saturday night’s 8th Annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals finale in his Henryetta Ford #12 Murphrey Oil Company/ Red Tail Tackle/ Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified.

While Hughes bid to claim the Silver Dollar Nationals title came up one spot short, the Oklahoma racer was still pleased with the outing.

“We had a great car all weekend, and I gave it my best shot to get around (Rodney) Sanders after that late-race caution, but he was just a little better than us tonight,” Hughes said. “Overall, it was a great weekend for our team here at I-80, and the staff had this place in great shape for tonight’s feature. I always enjoy coming here, and this weekend was no exception. We’ll take what we learned here tonight, and move onto the next event.”

Friday night found Jason Hughes returning to competition at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) as the 8th annual Imperial Tile Silver Dollar Nationals came to life.

Drawing 36 United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) competitors for the two rounds of heat races, Hughes gained two spots in his first heat to finish in the runner-up position behind Darron Fuqua. Starting his second heat from the sixth slot, Jason streaked to an 8-lap heat race victory, which secured his starting spot in the Moock Trucking Qualifier. Rolling off the grid second, Jason Hughes slipped one spot in the 16-lapper, scoring a third-place finish.

Via his qualifier performance, Jason locked into the fifth-starting spot for the finale.

In the $8,000-to-win A-Main on Saturday evening, Jason Hughes improved three positions in the 40-lap affair to record a second-place finish behind Rodney Sanders with Lucas Schott, Zack VanderBeek, and Stormy Scott completing the Top-5 finishers.

Mike Benedum Tops Skidmore Memorial at Elkins
Collects $5,000 for His Second Win of 2018


Salem, West Virginia (07/24/18) – For the second time in the month of July and for the second time in 2018, Mike Benedum parked his Eric Hudkins Motorsports #25 BSI Well Service Sweet Bloomquist Race Car/ Roush Yates Racing Engine Super Late Model in Victory Lane over the weekend.

His latest conquest came on Saturday night at West Virginia’s Elkins Raceway in the Skidmore Memorial.

“We had a good car from the drop of the green, but it seemed like the guys in front of me in the Top 5 were all running in pretty much the same spot on the track, so I decided to head to the top side to give it a shot, and that made all the difference,” Benedum said. “I can’t say enough about how good this car is, and that’s definitely a result of how much hard work my team has put into it. I really think we are onto something great here.”

Mike Benedum invaded Elkins Raceway (Kerens, West Virginia) on Friday night for the unsanctioned Red Fredrick Memorial. With 28 Super Late Models registered for action, Benedum laid down the third-fastest time in qualifying, which locked him into the Dash. Rolling off sixth for the Dash, Mike advance one spot to place fifth.

Via his preliminary performance Benedum started fifth in the $5,200-to-win A-Main. He would battle in the Top 10 throughout the event before streaking across the finish line in the sixth position.

Returning to Elkins Raceway on Saturday night for the Skidmore Memorial, Mike registered the fastest time in qualifying before finishing second in his heat race behind Walker Arthur.

Starting the feature in fifth, Benedum blasted past race-leader Walker Arthur on the high-side en route to his second win of the season and a $5,000 payday. Tim Senic, Tyler Bare, Walker Arthur, and Ryan Montgomery completed the Top-5 finishers in the 50-lap affair.

Dustin Strand Turns Rare B-Mod Start into Ninth Win of 2018
Two-Night, Two-Division Action on Tap for Strand this Weekend


Grand Forks, North Dakota (07/24/18) – Dustin Strand turned a rare start in his Q&Z Plumbing & Heating #71 McCaughan Builders/ Millenium Midwest Modified into his ninth win of 2018 on Saturday night.

“With my busy schedule in the Late Model and the A-Modified, I rarely get a chance to run the Midwest Modified, so it was a lot of fun to not only get to race it, but to win in it,” Strand commented. “From our track time in the Midwest Modified, we were also able to get some nice notes to pass onto our clients. We didn’t get a win in the Late Model this weekend, but we did have a pair of runner-up finishes, so we are pretty pleased with that as well.”

On Friday evening Dustin Strand was one of 18 Super Late Models registered at River Cities Speedway (Grand Forks, North Dakota) for the regular night of racing. Passing three cars in his heat, Strand streaked to an 8-lap heat race win, positioning him ninth on the starting grid for the opening night feature. Breaking into a podium spot, Dustin improved seven positions to place second behind Joey Pederson with Brad Seng, Mike Balcaen, and Bill Mooney completing the Top-5 finishers.

The following night at Devil’s Lake Speedway (Lakota, North Dakota), pulling double duty in the Super Late Model and Midwest Modified ranks, Strand locked his spot into the Late Model feature with a runner-up finish in his heat race behind Cole Schill.

Starting in sixth, Dustin gained four spots in the 25-lapper, reeling in a runner-up finish behind Brad Seng with Ryan Corbett, Cole Schill, and Mike Balcaen trailing them across the line.

In the Midwest Modified division, Strand jumped up five spots in his heat race to pick up the 8-lap win. Rolling off from the pole, Dustin Strand topped Ryan Schroeder, Lance Schill, Jesse Brekke, and Cole Haugland at the line to capture his ninth win of the season.

Ricky Weiss Records Runner-Up Finish in Silver Dollar Nationals
Red River Co-Op Speedway and River Cities Speedway on Tap


Headingly, Manitoba, Canada (07/24/18) – Ricky Weiss led a handful of laps in Saturday night’s coveted Silver Dollar Nationals finale before flashing across the finish line with a runner-up finish in the coveted event behind the wheel of his Derrick’s Sandblasting #7w Sweet-Bloomquist Race Car/ Vic Hill Race Engine Late Model.

“I know it wasn’t a win, but man it sure felt like it to us,” Weiss said. “To lead laps and finish second against the best in the business in such a big event is a big deal for our team. Really the whole week of action with the Lucas Oil tour was a good one for us. It shows where we are at with our program, and that we can contend on the national level. We’ve been discussing venturing out to the national scene next year with a tour, and this just shows that if we can get a little more sponsorship help that we are ready for the next step.”

On Tuesday night Ricky Weiss traveled to Brown County Speedway (Aberdeen, South Dakota) for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) sanctioned Bullet Sportswear Shootout. In a field of 24 cars, Ricky locked his spot into the show with a runner-up finish in his heat behind Bobby Pierce. Starting the feature in 4th, Weiss battled in the Top 5 throughout the 50-lapper before ultimately crossing the finish line in fourth behind Earl Pearson Jr., Josh Richards, and Bobby Pierce with Don O’Neal coming in 5th.

The following night at Jackson Motorplex (Jackson, Minnesota) for the Sturdevant’s Auto Parts 50, Weiss scored a fifth-place finish in his heat race, which positioned him 14th on the starting grid for the A-Main. Breaking into the Top-10, Ricky improved seven spots, reeling in a seventh-place finish.

On Thursday night at I-80 Speedway (Greenwood, Nebraska) for the Malvern Bank Go 50, Weiss locked his spot into the $10,000-to-win A-Main with a runner-up place finish in his heat behind Kyle Bronson. Rolling off seventh, Ricky ran into mechanical issues on lap-10 that prevented him from finishing the 50-lapper.

Returning on Friday night for two rounds of heat races, Weiss cruised to an 11-lap heat race victory in his first round. Starting in ninth in his second heat, Ricky gained six spots, reeling in a third-place finish.

Via his heat-race performances Weiss earned the fifth-starting position for the $53,000-to-win, 80-lap A-Main on Saturday night, Weiss slipped by Scott Bloomquist for the lead on lap-17. Losing the top spot to Bloomquist on lap-21, Ricky held on to a podium finish in the remaining 59 circuits scoring a runner-up finish behind Jonathan Davenport with Jimmy Owens, Hudson O’Neal, Earl Pearson Jr. rounding out the Top-5.
