Swindell Seeking Success at Devil's Bowl This Weekend During Season Opener Inside Line Promotions - GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (March 12, 2018) - Sammy Swindell certainly knows how to get around Devil's Bowl Speedway. Swindell has been victorious at the half-mile oval in Mesquite, Texas, in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. "The track is pretty unique where the backstretch is higher than the frontstretch," he said. "Both ends are 180 degrees different. Going into turn one is tight and then it opens up. When you get to turn three it's a big sweeper. It tightens up a lot off turn four. You have to have a car that will work in all those different areas." Swindell is hopeful he and the A.G. Rains owned No. 3 will have just that when the duo invades Devil's Bowl Speedway this Friday and Saturday for the 45th annual Spring Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com. It will be the team's first race of the season. "Starting the year the goal is to go out and win every race," Swindell said. "It's a good place for us to start. We've run good there and I've won a lot of races there. It gives you a lot of confidence going there that you definitely have a chance to win that first race and start that streak." Swindell has recorded 15 Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour wins during his career, including two in 1995 and one in 2010 at Devil's Bowl Speedway. He also has 12 career World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series victories at Devil's Bowl Speedway. (March 12, 2018) - Jason Sides enjoyed a different perspective last Friday during a World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series event. Sides focused on his role as car owner after his own qualifying result was near the back of the pack during the opening night of a doubleheader at Thunderbowl Raceway, where veteran Tim Kaeding also piloted a Sides Motorsports entry. "I wanted to qualify better, but it didn't go as well as we hoped in the backup car," Sides said. "Our stuff wasn't running as well as it should and we decided it was going to be too risky to try to come from the back in a heat race and the Last Chance Showdown to make the A Main so we parked it for the remainder of the night." Kaeding timed in eighth quickest in his group and he finished where he started - fourth - in a heat race to lock into the 16th starting position for the 35-lap A Main. "We made changes all night freeing it up and getting him comfortable in it," Sides said. "Late in the race he was a lot better. I think it was a pretty good run." Kaeding maneuvered to an eighth-place finish, which earned him the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars. Saturday's race rained out. Both Sides and Kaeding will compete for Sides Motorsports this Friday and Saturday at Stockton Dirt Track in Stockton, Calif., during the FVP Platinum Battery Western Spring Shootout with the World of Outlaws. "I like racing there," Sides said. "Last year we started off real well and led the first lap of the race. We had a power steering line rub a bolt and cut it so hopefully we're just as fast with a little more luck this year." QUICK RESULTS - March 9 - Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. (Tim Kaeding) - Qualifying: 8; Heat race: 4 (4); Feature: 8 (16). (March 12, 2018) - Seth Bergman kicks off his Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com campaign this weekend with momentum. Bergman was victorious during his most recent race and this weekend's doubleheader is hosted by Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, where Bergman has earned a lot of success throughout his career. "You're only as good as your last race so right now we feel pretty good entering the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour season," he said. "We ended last year really strong and felt like we started hitting on some things. We've had really good speed this year and we've continued to learn. The biggest thing for me is we're finally getting to a point where we're confident why we're carrying speed." Bergman, who won the series finale last season to give him at least one Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour victory in each of the last six years, has an outstanding track record at Devil's Bowl Speedway. He's recorded at least one top-five finish at the track during each of the last five seasons, including five top fives in six races last year. In fact, Bergman has one win, 10 top fives and 13 top 10s in 17 races there dating back to 2013. He's also posted at least one top-10 result each year since 2012. "It's a confidence builder whenever you head to a track where you've been a contender," he said. "Devil's Bowl is a tricky track. I think it takes time to learn it and become comfortable there. When I first started going there it was one of the biggest challenges. Maybe because of that I really started paying attention to it and trying to go fast. I think that's where our good results have come from." (March 12, 2018) - Tony Bruce Jr. begins his 2018 sprint car season at a home track. Bruce Jr. will drive for Mike Hayashi this Friday and Saturday at Devil's Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the 45th annual Spring Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com. "Any time you go to a place where you've won before you have a little more confidence," Bruce Jr. said. "I'm always excited to race at Devil's Bowl. It's almost like my home track. I feel like it's almost like the ASCS home track because we go there so many times per year." Bruce Jr. earned two ASCS National Tour victories at the track in 2014 and one in 2008. He also won at the half-mile oval in 2011 and has posted at least one top-10 finish there for 10 straights seasons. "The key is making sure the car rotates," he said. "What a lot of people do is end up getting their car too tight. We've been able to make sure we can get around the corners with ease." This weekend will mark the sixth and seventh races together for Bruce Jr. and Hiyashi, who partnered for a pair of ASCS National Tour events to end last season. "I feel like we can go out there and win," Bruce Jr. said. "The times I've driven the No. 12h car we've had the speed. We just need to have the luck and make sure we have the speed when it counts."
