Breazeale Captures First Win of the Season at Deep South
Magnolia Motor Speedway’s Clash at the Mag Next

LAUREL, Miss. (06/17/20) – David Breazeale piloted the Henderson Motorsports No. 10 L&D Trucking/ Longhorn Chassis/ Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model to the team’s first win of the season on Friday.

Entering the Southern All Star Racing Series Duals in Dixie at Deep South Speedway (Loxley, Alabama), the defending Series champion cashed in a $3,000 payday in Friday night’s opener.

“I still had a little left in the tank,” Breazeale said. “I kept looking at the scoreboard and counting the laps down. I looked up and saw it was three (laps) to go and I had three lapped cars in front of me. And I was listening to Josh back behind me, and I knew I had a little bit of room. I could tell he was gaining on me, but like I said, I was backing off just trying not to catch them lapped cars. I didn’t want to mess up coming to the checkers."

Laying down the fastest lap in his time trial group, Breazeale locked into the pole position for Friday’s A-Main. Jumping into the lead on the drop of the green flag, David led wire-to-wire in the 30-lapper to capture his first win of the season. Josh Putnam, Larry Harrod, Sam Seawright, and Joseph Joiner completed the Top-5 finishers.

On Saturday evening for the second round of the Duals in Dixie, David again topped the speed charts in his group, which positioned him on the front row for the finale. With $5,000 on the line, Breazeale came one spot shy of a Top-5 finish in the 50-lap affair with a sixth place outing.

Full results from these events are available at www.SASDirt.com .

The upcoming weekend – June 18-20 – will see David Breazeale compete in the annual Clash at the Mag at Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, Miss.). The three-day event sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series will be a full program with a $5,000-to-win features on Thursday and Friday. The action-packed weekend culminates with a $15,000-to-win finale on Saturday.

Mallett Claims 15th annual USCS Speedweek Championship After String of Podium Finishes

Inside Line Promotions - BYRAM, Miss. (June 17, 2020) - Jordon Mallett scored three podium finishes last weekend en route to capturing the 15 th annual USCS Series Speedweek championship.

Dating back to the first three races two weeks ago, Mallett was the only driver to finish on the podium in each of the six races. He was also the hard charger during the Speedweek finale on Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway.

"We were not really planning on running the whole deal, but after the first three races we saw we were up front and my wife really pushed me to try and win the thing," he said. "The plan was just to try and further tune these new Triple X chassis and build a notebook. We did that and then some by winning the championship."

Entering Speedweek Round 4 on Thursday at North Alabama Speedweek in Tuscumbia, Ala., with a 24-point advantage in the standings, Mallett began the night by placing fifth in the dash before winning a heat race from the pole position.

Mallett lined up for the feature on the inside of the third row and he quickly moved into fourth on the initial start. After settling into the third position, Mallett tracked down the leaders in traffic before a caution came out with five laps to go. The clean air allowed the leaders to pull away and Mallett settled for a third-place finish.

"We were pretty good, but we just needed to be in a better position for the feature," he said. "Some of these races it's so important to get on the front row at the start and ultimately the track was just tough to really do too much on."

Mallett headed to Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., the following night. He placed fourth in the dash and third in a heat race. For the second consecutive night Mallett lined up fifth in the A Main and he struggled on the initial start, dropping to seventh. Following another late-race caution, Mallett utilized the bottom of the track to advance to third.

"I wasn't really where I wanted to be early in the night and it took us a little while to get to where I felt good," he said. "You really have to take every opportunity you get to pass cars on these tracks and we just were not quite as good as the leaders."

Mallett traveled 85 miles north to the Jackson Motor Speedway on Saturday. He finished fourth in both the dash and a heat race.

Mallett started 11th in the feature and knowing he could wrap up a championship with a solid effort, he planned to be cautious with his approach. Using an extremely fast race car, Mallett quickly diced his way up to third place and once there he decided not to push the envelope to secure the title.

"It really started to creep into my mind that we could wrap up the title if we ran well on the last night, so that was definitely in the back of my mind all night," he said. "I was going back and forth on if I should push it and go for the win or just stay steady in third. My mind said go and the car said go, but ultimately I wanted the title and I didn't want to cost myself it trying to get a win. It was just really a bittersweet night as in different circumstances we might win the race."

Mallett will take this weekend off to prepare for the return of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour the following week. In its first races since March due to the effects of COVID-19, the series will head to Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Kan., on June 25 and to I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. on June 27.

"I'm looking forward to a return to ASCS racing and I feel like we've used the time off wisely to kind of fine-tune our program," he said. "We knew coming into this season that it would take some time to learn how the Triple X chassis would run and in a way, this was a blessing as we've got ourselves dialed in without sacrificing points on the tour."

Hagar Captures First Two Career Midget Victories During Arkansas Doubleheader

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 16, 2020) - Derek Hagar has won a lot of races in many different types of cars, but a triumph had eluded him in his limited time behind the wheel of a midget.

That changed last weekend when Hagar swept the weekend, guiding Hagar Proctor Racing to a heat race and main event victory on Friday at Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., and on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway.

"It was a good weekend," he beamed. "Midget racing is definitely different than what we're used to doing. It was a weekend we put on just to have something to do to where we get to race and it worked out. We had a good car both nights and we were able to come out on top."

Hagar claimed a heat race from the pole position on Friday at Crowley's Ridge Raceway. He lined up on the outside of the front row for the A Main.

"I tried to run the top the first couple of laps, but I couldn't get anything done," he said. "I was noticing second place was staying with me on the bottom so I went down to the bottom. About five laps in it started taking patchy rubber. We led every lap and were able to get our first midget victory."

Momentum continued on Saturday at Riverside International Speedway, where Hagar advanced from second to win a heat race and the main event.

"It was slide job after slide job for the lead in the feature," he said. "We got a good start and then it was called back for a caution. On the third start we got going, but we fell back to second. Howard Moore put a half straightaway on me. We rode there until we got to traffic. Sometimes it pays to run second. Everything happens so quickly and the outcome can change quickly. He got checked up by a car and I was able to keep my momentum up and do a slide job on him. We did that for three or four laps. It made the racing so much fun. I was able to clear him and three lapped cars at the same time. I think I led the last six laps."

The two wins give Hagar three trips to Victory Lane in only seven races this season.

Hagar plans to drive a 360ci sprint car for Jerry Caldwell this Saturday at Riverside International Raceway during the 2nd annual Greg Hodnett Memorial.

"I ran a 305 sprint car for him once two or three years ago," Hagar said. "Hopefully we can contend for another win this weekend. I ran third during the inaugural Greg Hodnett Memorial last year so it'd mean a lot if we could come out on top this weekend."

Skinner Opens 30th Year of Racing With Top-Five Finish

Inside Line Promotions - WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 16, 2020) - Marshall Skinner kicked off his 30th year of racing with a solid top-five finish last Thursday during USCS Series action at North Alabama Speedway.

"I started fourth in the feature and tried a Hail Mary through the middle on the second lap and fell back to about eighth," said Skinner, who won his heat race. "I was able to work my way back to fifth by the finish."

Skinner was generally pleased with his evening at the oval in Tuscumbia, Ala., following an approximate eight-month hiatus from racing.

"It's like riding a bicycle; you don't forget how," he said. "But I was rusty after being away for so long. I guess I was happiest with the way I felt racing all weekend. I recently lost about 25 pounds and it seemed to make me feel a lot better behind the wheel."

Skinner also competed on Friday in two divisions at Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark., and at Riverside International Speedway on Saturday, but misfortune kept him from finishing each of the three main events.

"I raced for the first time without a wing in about 11 years at Crowley's Ridge," he said. "I started 11th and was up to about seventh or eighth when there was a parts failure in the engine when a retainer broke. Non-wing racing is the most fun racing there is. I had a great time."

Skinner also competed in a winged 305 sprint car for car owner John McCord that evening as well as the following night at Riverside International Speedway.

"At Crowley's Ridge in the 305, I started seventh and was trying to pass for third with about five laps to go when the guy pinched me off," he said. "I got on the brakes real hard, but I barely brushed the tractor tire and broke the radius rod.

"The next night at Riverside, I had a great race with my buddy Dewayne White. It was a slide-job fest, a real barn burner. But eventually I lost my brakes. With two laps to go, I got into the back of him a bit and spun myself out to keep from hitting him hard since I had no brakes. I decided not to restart from the back with two laps to go and no brakes."

Skinner was credited with a 14th-place result.

Although now without an engine, Skinner is making an extra effort to race in this Saturday's Greg Hodnett Memorial at Riverside International Speedway.

"I feel like the Greg Hodnett Memorial is one race I can't miss, if at all possible, so I borrowed an engine from my uncle for this weekend," he said. "I'm a little concerned about when I'll get my engine fixed since it's difficult to get parts due to the factories shutting down."

QUICK RESULTS -

June 11 - North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, Ala. - Heat race: 1 (1); Feature: 5 (4).

June 12 - Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark. (Non-wing sprint car) - Heat race: 4 (3); Feature: 17 (11).

June 12 - Crowley's Ridge Raceway in Paragould, Ark. (305 sprint car) - Feature: 17 (7).

Brian Brown Highlights World of Outlaws Event at Knoxville With Top 10

Inside Line Promotions - KNOXVILLE, Iowa (June 16, 2020) - Brian Brown recorded his fourth top 10 of the season with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series last Saturday during the finale of the Brownells Big Guns Bash hosted by Knoxville Raceway.

June 12 - Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa - Qualifying: 6; Heat race: 4 (3); Feature: 15 (15).

"I felt like we were okay," Brown said. "We didn't qualify as well as we wanted and that got us a little behind. In the heat race I didn't get going as good as we needed to and ran fourth. It's not too often we get to experiment at Knoxville. Since we were starting so far back we wanted to use the feature as a test session. I made my car too free in the wrong areas. We know what not to do at this point. We knew what we needed to do for Night 2."

June 13 - Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa - Qualifying: 7; Heat race: 2 (4); Dash: 6 (8); Feature: 6 (6).

"The track had slowed down quite a bit when we went out to qualify and I was actually concerned," Brown said. "We were able to outqualify the cars around us by quite a bit and go seventh quick. In the heat we had a really good battle to get into a dash spot. Unfortunately, we drew the worst position to start last in the dash. I got to fifth and gave (Kyle) Larson too much room. He took advantage of it and we ended up sixth. We knew going into the feature we had a pretty good car. We got to fourth and then to third. We had a double-file restart and I was able to get the lead. I felt like we were going to have a good shot to win. We got racing with Larson and Brad (Sweet). We got sliding around quite a bit. I'm not sure if we sealed our tires. We went from driving good to hanging on the next lap. My tires were spinning more. Sometimes you don't carry the speed and then you get tight. Even when I was third I didn't feel that great. Usually in that situation as hard as we used our tires they'd be red hot when you come into the pits. They just weren't warm. It's like we sealed the tires up. You don't want to make excuses, but if we were going to pinpoint it I think that's got to be it.

"At times I felt like we had the fastest car on the track so that's exciting. I think we have a lot of good notes that will help us the next couple of months."

UP NEXT - Saturday at Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa

"Last week is a good guide for us to see where we are," Brown said. "We have to get better. You're not going to compete to win the Knoxville Nationals if you don't work on your car. That's exciting to be able to have a rabbit in front of you."

SEASON STATS -

18 races, 1 win, 3 top fives, 9 top 10s, 12 top 15s, 12 top 20s

30 minutes. 22 miles. That’s the difference between Mooresburg, Tennessee, where Scott Bloomquist’s Team Zero shop resides, and Bulls Gap, Tennessee, where Volunteer Speedway holds some of the best racing in the Volunteer State.

With the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series heading for the 4/10th-mile oval this Friday & Saturday, June 19-20, local fans will have the chance to see Bloomquist compete at his home track for the first time in six years. It’s an opportunity that the National Dirt Late Model Racing Hall of Fame inductee is relishing in.

“It’s great, especially because I haven’t been there in quite a while,” said Bloomquist on racing close to home this weekend. “It used to be one of my favorite places to go, but man it’s been years since I’ve raced there. It really is a great race track, I know the new owners have made some improvements that I’m excited to see. It’s always nice being able to race so close to home, especially at a place that I love. I haven’t seen a lot of the local fans in awhile, so hopefully they all come out and support us.”

August of 2014 was the last time Bloomquist competed at Volunteer Speedway, but his knowledge and love for the place remains the same. After all, he’s got arguably the best resume of anyone in Dirt Late Model Racing when it comes to Bulls Gap. In 17 national touring races since 2004, Bloomquist leads everyone in top five finishes (11) and top ten finishes (14) with an additional two victories to his credit.
So, what about Volunteer Speedway clicks with Bloomer and his Team Zero Race Cars?
“I’ve just always liked fast race tracks and Volunteer is as about as fast as they come,” commented Bloomquist on his success at the track. “It’s high banked and the conditions are normally great. It’s not as intense as Tazewell, but it’s an intense place. I mean, you can drive VERY hard here, and I’ve always enjoyed driving hard. The faster the race track, the better.”
Sitting eighth in the current World of Outlaws Late Model Series standings, a Bulls Gap weekend is potentially just what Bloomquist needs to flip the switch and turn his season around. In 13 races on tour this year, the 56-year old legend has two top five finishes and four top ten results in his Drydene Performance Products No. 0 machine.

“Let’s just say this, we’re working on a lot of things around here that I think are going to boost my confidence,” noted Bloomquist. “Yes, we had a bad Eldora, but we had so many things go wrong that have never happened with mechanical issues, different parts on the cars, just all kinds of stuff. I am comfortable at Bulls Gap and that does bring some confidence, but I’m not any more comfortable there than I am at Eldora, I’ve always loved going there. This weekend will be fun though. The dirt they’ve got on the track and the way they’re preparing everything has me excited about going back.”
Considering all of his success and triumphs at the nearby track, the Mooresburg, Tenn. racer has countless memories at the Volunteer Speedway. But, what sticks out the most? A Bloomquist classic.
“We were on the pole for a Sunday race and I ended up going out with a friend of mine the night before,” said Bloomquist on his favorite Bulls Gap memory. “It was snowing when I went to bed, so I figured the race would be cancelled. Then at 12:00pm the next day, one of my crew guys found me and told me they’re hot lapping in an hour, but I was still at my friends house. We might’ve stayed up a little too late and my head was hurting the next day. I got the track and skipped practice. We went out there and ended up winning the race. I had people asking me how I ran so good that day and all I could say was ‘Nobody wanted this race to be over more than I did. The faster I run, the sooner this is over.'”
This weekend, Bloomquist will be back at Bulls Gap chasing his next memory at the track he calls home.
Fans looking to attend this weekend’s event can BUY TICKETS HERE. The pits are slated to open at 2:00pm both days with grandstands opening at 4:00pm and hot laps at 7:00pm. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch from home on DIRTVision, the official streaming partner of the World of Outlaws.

Jeff Taylor Back in Victory Lane at Batesville Motor Speedway
Sights Set on 141 Speedway’s Clash at the Creek

CAVE CITY, Ark. (06/17/20) – Jeff Taylor drove to his second victory in as many weeks on Friday night.

Taylor wheeled the Wendell Wallace-owned No. 6m Shaw Race Cars IMCA Modified to the win at Batesville Motor Speedway in Locust Grove, Ark.

“Any win is special but to win here at Batesville Motor Speedway means that much more,” Taylor commented. “I love being able to race in front of our hometown fans. It feels great to win two weeks in a row. I hope we can carry this momentum into Wisconsin this weekend.”

In a field of 21 Modifieds, picking up a heat race victory over John Waugh, Taylor locked his spot into the main event. Parking the MTR Fencing Company entry in victory lane, Jeff topped Mark Norris, Clay Norris, Ashton Wilkey, and John Waugh at the line to secure the victory.

The following night at Legit Speedway Park (West Plains, Mo.) aboard the Cameron Rank-owned No. 44T Modified, Jeff posted a fourth place finish in his heat, which positioned him eighth on the starting grid for the A-Main.
